Verdict at River's Edge: A Christian Thriller with a dash of romance (Collin Walker Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 212 ratings

What terrifies you?

In the dark recess of your soul, what is it that you’ve managed to avoid, to hide, to bury deep, never to be faced? And what if the Lord asked you to face that fear for no other reason than, “Because I’m asking?” What would you do?

Welcome to Collin Walker’s world.

Collin Walker, a social worker from the innercity of Oakton, Ohio comes to Camp Grace for what is billed as “an extreme sports camp.” Her single purpose: to show her ward, Rob Sider, that there is more to life than the streets “…show you can be strong and still love, win without cheating, and succeed in life without all the bells and whistles…” Collin has no way of knowing that God has other plans for her week: facing a lifelong terror of rushing rivers, and perhaps her greatest fear of all, the possibility of real love.

Jeff Farrell is the camp “go-to”man: janitor, tour guide, paramedic... Collin finds his easy banter, gentle humor and quick wit intriguing. As their paths cross over and over—and over and over—Collin finds herself drawn to him. When Rob picks whitewater rafting as his challenge and asks Collin to come along, Collin must muster all her rigid self-control and her faith to face her fear. But when a killer makes her his next target, which will she rely on to see her through? Her strength? Or her faith? Can she “walk the talk” when the events of the week spiral out of her control?

Join her and find out.

Colleen K. Snyder

has always had a passion for writing. In years past she authored two previously published books: Journey to Amanah: The Beginning and Return to Tebel-Ayr: The Journey Continues (B&H Publishing). Colleen is under contract to Winged Publications, where she has published a novella, six books, and has a seventh due to be released in April. She is currently working on a new series. Her style is "contemporary suspense with a *touch of romance." She lives on a “ranchette” in California with her younger sister and her mother and is (still) training as the junior-est ranch hand. Colleen exercises a ministry of encouragement along with being an ardent pray-er. She has worked as a factory line worker, pharmacy technician, USAF missile systems analyst, nanny, teacher, personal assistant to the company president, and whatever else the Lord required. Her story is for His glory, always.

The camp and river descriptions were excellent. The author made Camp Grace sound like a place I wanted to go to. She also understands the need of wayward kid. I liked all the characters, especially Colin and Jeff. This is book one, and I hope Jeff continues to be in the series. Thanks for a great read.

This author is wonderful, she does not describe the physical attributes for the eye to see. What she does is describe the characters spiritually. I know the villain is nice looking but his spirit is not. What color eyes, hair, how tall is never told. And we know our character should imitate Jesus.

    A page-turner for sure!

This faith-based story kept me glued to the screen. The thriller is well-written, with nary a dull moment. The added romance is a plus. This book has an ideal setting in the mountains, including a raging river, with real-to-life characters, from adults to children, containing captivating quirks. The Christian aspect is perfectly woven throughout the story of social worker Collin and the children she surrounds herself with. The plot is unique and captivating. A bit of a predictable ending but it didn’t matter.

I’ve not read any of Ms. Snyder’s books before but I’ll keep hers in mind for my TBR pile. 5 stars it is

This book is not for the faint of heart. It hits hard and long on a pressure point for me: fear. Whom do we trust in the hardest of circumstances? The cast of characters is amazing and sucked me in page after page. There is intrigue, suspense, romance and always the challenge to see God through His Son. Some of the explanations of the need for a Savior I have ever read. Can’t wait to read the sequel.

Great book! This book shows how much we struggle as humans. Even when we know God is in charge. Love how the children learn to belive and love the Lord. Looking forward to the next book.
