Editorial Reviews

Review

"Srivalli has such a gift with imagery! She's able to capture the intensity of real life without bogging down the rhythm. It takes a lot for me to understand poetry in general but Violets in Hand has such a unique voice and an honesty I don't see other places. Highly recommend this book!"- Theresa G **************"Violets in hand feels like much more than a river of emotions. If you could embody emotion and give it a poetic soul, then it is that. It is the kind of book that you want to snuggle up in bed with at night or read on a rainy morning, when a sodden haze clings to the world making it appear almost wistful.
The best part about the book is that it is a compilation of poems written in so many distinct forms. E.g., tankas, haikus, nonets, pantoums, limerics, cherita, sedoka, sonnets, chants, etc. At the end of each poem are the poet's notes explaining not just the form of poetry but also the emotion that went behind writing it. To me, that just made the poem come alive."- Sonal S

    VIOLETS IN HAND
    BY SRIVALLI REKHA

Everyone should own this talented author's Srivalli Rekha's, beautifully composed collection of poems called, "Violets in Hand." Each ethereal poem having the theme of nature at its core will take your breath away as you read through each one. It also could be used as a manual for aspiring poets or writers. After each poem the author explains the mechanics of the poem as in what style she chose to write it. She also gives the reader the prompts that she used to compose each stunning poem. Often posing a question to the reader to contemplate on asking what they think or how they would have used the given prompt.

This is really a gorgeous collection and one I will read over and over again. Just look at the splendid cover. I promise you each word is chosen with care to make the poetry pure perfection. The author has an innate talent for creating with her words gemstones that make up the finest jewelry. Srivalli Rekha has accomplished quite a brilliant collection that should be savored slowly, letting yourself enjoy each offering. I read each one, and honestly they are all so splendidly written, that they are all my favorites. If you're looking to add some soulful, contemplative jewels to reflect upon, please do yourself a favor and pick up "Violets in Hand." The poetry is as wonderful as the title and the fantastic cover. Enjoy! Five+++Stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars A river of emotions that speaks to the soul
Reviewed in India on September 17, 2019
Poetry to me has always been the voice of my soul. It is a literary form that should not be written but should flow out of you like a river of emotions.

Violets in hand feels like much more than a river of emotions.

At the end of each poem are the poet’s notes explaining not just the form of poetry but also the emotion that went behind writing it. To me, that just made the poem come alive.

I would be remiss if I did not mention two poems that particularly stole my heart - Colours of betrayal and the red of her lips. There is such a deep yearning in these that it tugs at some unknown corner of your heart that as yet was bereft of emotion.

Some other lines that stuck with me are:

    1. Poem, ‘memories’ -
    Staring at the azure sky
    Holding a harlequin teacup
I marvelled at the pale yellow daffodils
On the mahogany table beside me

    2. Tanka , ‘be my valentine’ -
    Paper hearts in pink
Roses in snow hite and red
    Violets in hand
He smiled with a missing tooth
    ‘Will you be my valentine?’

    3. Acrostic on the poet’s name, ‘srivalli’
    Silence fills the gaps
    Roaring in the ears
    Icy heart holds it all
    Valiant or vulnerable, you wonder
Abysmal eyes know more than you
    Laughing at the invisible strings
Loyalty is not just a word
Infinite utterances do not sew a broken trust.

If you love to read poetry and have not already picked this kindle version up, then you must do so.

All the poems are extremely well written and they touch the heart. I am not the type of person who would usually read poetry but this collection covers so many techniques that reading is a learning experience as well as an enjoyable one. I strongly recommend the book to all those who seek peace in a restless world.
