- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a wonderfully told story. I am admittedly not a fan of the extremely slow burn, but this was certainly worth the wait. The actual plot is riveting enough that the reader enjoys the intensified slow build to the romance. What really sets this apart is that given the content, and timeframe a slow build is absolutely appropriate to the plot line. That makes all of the difference to me. There was no feigned angst, it was a natural and believable part of the storyline. However, what seals the deal is that although the spice level is mild, what actually makes it elevated spicy is the intense feelings the characters share. The author is gentle with the love scenes but she still doesn’t skimp out on the reader. It’s a deft hand that utilized and the story is made all the better for it. There are some poignant lines about what it means to be a woman who has agency in a time where women had none, and what it means to be a woman who loves a woman and claim that space. This was definitely one where I was sad to see the characters go, but they will remain in my memory.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe story was during the WWII, where they needed women to fly aircrafts. Beryl the main character was passionate about flying and when she was 16 she first met Odette who took her for a ride in her plane. That was all it took for Beryl to want to fly. but Joyce & Maize were their best friends. All flying planes and transferring stations so they could all stay together.
Of course it was during at time where you could lose their jobs just for being gay. Odette having her heart broken in pieces before has closed it off. Beryl attracted to Odette was pushed away at every turn.
The main character was fleshed out very well. The author had you invested in the story from the start.
I will be looking for more books by the author.
Thank you for immersing me in this story!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseVirgin Flight is a historical novel of days past where same sex couples couldn’t be together openly for fear of losing loved ones and their livelihoods.
But instead of getting the standard tired, tragic ending we get a romance - a HEA. How refreshing!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIt's hard to imagine what it was like when the world was at war and nobody knew what the outcome would be. It's equally difficult to recall how painful and secretive two women in love had to be during the same time. Virgin Flight divinely captures it all in a remarkable, personal, and realistic fashion. The private thoughts and feelings of Beryl and Odette are revealed throughout, with wonderfully described flights, friendships, fear, loves, dream and hope taking center stage. This was a remarkable tale, that can be understood from both a personal and universal perspective. A lot of fears, drama, romance, and tears (sad and joyous) are shared upon its pages.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis had me almost punching the air with frustration. It is a very well written and beautiful slow burn and had me writhing for more. The fact that she had it so well done I felt like I was reading a wonderful movie. Thank you for the amazing read
- Reviewed in the United States on December 4, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book is a wonderful combination of a rare genres —- it’s both sapphic and historical.
It’s set in Britain during the years of WWII.
The two MCs want to help in the war effort but are struggling against misogyny for female pilots, in addition to having to hide their love from a public that would condemn it.
Definitely recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 20, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI rarely say it, but I really love this book. I’m a historical novel guy and even though this is neither and grab my attention and kept me interested the whole way through. It’s a great story and you’ll even learn a lot reading it. I recommended for everybody.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, a great book
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseVirgin Flight was a great book. I didn't understand the importance of the ATA. Ferrying planes across England, Wales and Scotland. The women of ATA were brave.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotionally engaging
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI thoroughly enjoyed this atmospheric tale of love, danger and wartime challenges.
It is well written AND well edited, which is great: full marks to the editor, or editing team.
If anyone wants to read a similar tale of women doing the same type of job over the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, Silver Wings, by H. P. Munroe is another really engaging read.
