About Fina
Fina Fitzgibbons is a private investigator who lives with her boyfriend, Denny, in the Vinegar Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. She mourns the recent death of her mother, sometimes with an overwhelming ache. And she hasn't forgiven her father for leaving when Fina was a child. No wonder, then, that she fears loving and losing. She's not perfect, not by a long shot. Sometimes she takes Denny for granted; sometimes she's jealous of Detective First Grade Jane Templeton; sometimes she makes snap judgments. But she's smart and gingery--just like the color of her hair--and she's got that wizard thing going on. And something else about Fina--she never, ever gives up.

I have to confess that aside from wanting Whiskey Parnell to be found for the sake of her daughter, I did not think I cared about her as a person. Then the author seemed to read my mind with these words: "Her form was coalescing into someone I was beginning to understand. Someone with a reason for guilt. Someone human like me." Whiskey might not be the most sympathetic of characters, but she does seem real because of her flaws. The author brings her to life with that observation, and I no longer need to suspend disbelief.

The number and variety of characters and suspects keeps the story interesting while we wait for the mystery to be solved. I found it easy to pick up the story line after a short absence because Fina reminds us of what she knows at frequent intervals. I appreciate that the author writes believable situations without resorting to language that is too graphic or offensive. She has a unique way of describing ordinary activities, such as saying Fina and Denny have been doing "laps" where another author would feel compelled to describe their lovemaking in detail.

For me, the best part of these mysteries is the writing. I forget that I'm reading fiction. It's as if Fina is a friend relating events that really happened to her. Once she reveals the culprit and the story ends, I re-read passages to focus on how the author does it. I thoroughly enjoy time spent with Susan Russo Anderson.

I enjoyed the books, I have read lol 3. I found a lot of errors in each book and contradictions in the story line. Some contradictions from one page to another. I think you could use a good tech writer. Some people I am sure don't mind but I find it very frustrating.
I did enjoy the characters though but some of their lives are just too repetitive. I'm sure some could be cut out.
Just happy Fina finally accepted Denny's proposal! I found after the third book I was really part of their lives.

Having read the first two excellent books in this series, I found this third book a little disappointing. The plot had too many "bad guys" which made it very convoluted and confusing in parts and it required a whole chapter to explain how it all fit together. Not Susan Anderson's best effort. However I will continue reading the series however, as I like the main characters in the stories and hope Susan will get back on track in the next book!

Another great book from Susan and I really like the Fine Fitzgibbons books. I realize you have to reiterate at times of things in the past, however, I've read almost if not all of them by now so it does get a little boring when it continues to go on in every book. Sometimes Susan's books will let your mind wander to whom you think did it, I've been pretty good at figuring out before the end of the books but the story lines are great. Keeps me wondering, will they stay in Brooklyn???

Susan Russo Anderson turned up the heat in this Fina Fitzgibbons Brook!yn Mystery. Whiskey Parnell comes up missing. Fina is hired to find Trisha Liam's office manager. She'd found Liam's daughter, Brandy, in book two. Fina is also working to discover who was behind Liam's husband's murder. Whiskey is renting the apartment from Lorraine and Robert. They are Fina's boyfriend's parents. Lorraine also works for her doing legal research. Anderson takes her readers on a roller coaster ride from Brooklyn to Coney Island. Whiskey's diary is her biggest clue. She is joined by Denny and a crew of teenagers to find Arthur Whiskey's former lover. will they find Whiskey in time, and what does the piano man know? Over all, Whiskey's gone is a very good read.

Like the previous Fina Fitzgibbons books, this one combines believable characters and plot, their believability enhanced by geographically and historically accurate locations and references. Character and plot development shows growth from the previous books. There are references to events in previous novels in the series; however, the author supplies enough explanation (without rehashing previous plots) that you do not have to read the novels in chronological order.

The characters are realistic and interesting. Personally, I appreciate the fact that the author does not make too much of Fina's special abilities. The plot is complicated enough to make it a cliff hanger and while some of the inferences stretch a bit, I enjoyed every minute.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to Brooklyn with Fina!!!

How can a mother just disappear and leave her young daughter? Fina Fitzgibbons gets strange sensations that tell her something is definitely wrong. Cookie, her part time detective aide and Lorraine, her almost future mother-in-law have diverse opinions of this woman called Whiskey. One clams her to be a person with a hidden past while the other sees her as a fine mother. It’s again up to Fina to uncover the truth. As always this astute detective from Brooklyn must rely on her feelings as well as on clues. The author brings us back to Brooklyn and guides us through various neighbohoods, like Dumbo, Brighten Beach and Coney Island. As a former Brooklynite I am ever so happy to return to the places of my youth.
The author shows us once again she has a talent for writing a well written suspenseful mystery. The plot is intricate and intense and the characters are realistic. The reader can feel the tension as the story unfolds. Where has Whiskey gone?
My advice is to take up Fina’s invitation to follow her on still another of her adventures in crime.

I enjoyed the first two books in this series, but stopped reading this third book as the character (who disappears) was not believable and it made me feel disconnected to the story and I didn't want to continue reading it.
