When You Were Mine (Teacher Chronicles Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 42 ratings

A spicy second chance romance...

Hollywood hunk, Jack Davies is back in his hometown, desperate to escape the clutches of fame and fortune. Not even his brother’s upcoming wedding can distract him from the mess he left behind, or his inner demons. But a chance encounter with his first love, Seraphina De Lotto, changes everything. Jack can’t think of a sexier diversion. In fact, he can’t think at all.

But the sultry Sports teacher isn’t a wide-eyed teenage girl anymore. Sera’s tormented by her own guilt, and the memories of an innocent life she couldn’t save. Committed to helping the disadvantaged youth in one of the poorest suburbs of Melbourne, she has no time for the smooth-talking star and his tantalizing kisses.

With his agent demanding answers, Jack must face hard truths about his career and mental health before time runs out. If he wants Sera in his life, he must prove that there’s more beneath the surface than his killer body and a penchant for playing it cool.

But Sera’s not certain she can trust him to stick around this time. She’s convinced it’s far better to protect her heart, than listen to it. Little does she know, Jack has major plans…

The million-dollar question is, will she accept?

This is a compelling look at two individuals that love each other but are driven by inner demons to push each other away. Sera, a teacher and Jack, an international actor have a history that ended in hurt. They have a second chance when Jack's brother and Sera's friend Ally plan their wedding. Jack returns home but is fighting a serious case of anxiety that has affected every aspect of his life. The story not only revolves around the couple reuniting, but also illustrates how hard it is to manage anxiety. Sera, has issues of deep rooted guilt also as she strives to be everyone's hero. In the end, readers are given their HEA, but it is obvious that there is still much self work to be done by both.
I enjoyed this book. At first it moved slowly and Jack seemed as if he were 1 step from losing it all. The author did provide an intense look at anxiety and panic attacks. The description made me feel as if I were on the edge of experiencing one.
This is a 5 star book, but I gave it 4 because of the pacing. I wished it would have moved a little quicker. Overall, a good read on a rainy Saturday.

Maybe showing up on his brother Owen's doorstep in Melbourne was a bad idea. He had been running from his problems for years, but having a mental break on the set of his latest movie had Jack packing his bags and taking the first flight out of LA.

Jack was an international movie star but the Hollywood lifestyle was finally getting to him. He needed a break to figure out the mess his life had turned into.

What a small twisted world. Her boyfriend had chosen Hollywood over her ten years ago breaking her seventeen-year-old heart. Her best friend's soon-to-be brother-in-law. Sera was determined to not have her heart broken a second time because she knew that his stay wasn't permanent. He would leave again and she didn't know if she could survive this time.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. This book can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend that you read this series in order as the characters are recurring and the storylines intertwine.

Jack knew he shouldn't have taken on his latest project, but didn't realize the full impact it would have on him and his mental health. Sera was a high school PE instructor and taught disadvantaged kids in her free time. Her life was the polar opposite of the Hollywood lifestyle. How could people who were polar opposites find a middle ground?

This book is action-packed from beginning to end. Sera's relationship with her best friends will keep you laughing and Sera and Jack's relationship will light up your Kindle. But Jack's breakdown is heartbreaking as he finally deals with his guilt and grief. Owen had outside forces that were trying to destroy him. Jack's were an internal struggle he had to face alone to come out the other side a whole man.

I so love this series and can't wait for Maddie's story. Just from her hatred of Gabriel throughout this series, I know we are in for a treat. Highly recommend!

First time reading this author. Not a bad book, but not one that I liked (4) or loved (5) or disliked/hated (2/1). Hence the 3 star rating.

This story is about Sera, a teacher who’s got a big heart for the underprivileged. And Jack, the guy she loved one summer at 18 before he became a famous actor. Jack’s brother is marrying Sera’s best friend/co-worked, so a mental break down with an upcoming g wedding brought their worlds colliding again.

This book does touch a lot on mental health, which is great. But sometimes there were just too many things going on at one time.

This was such a great follow up to the first book. You can’t help but root for Jack & Sera the whole book. The way mental health was approached in this book was good I found. It’s written so beautifully. I can’t wait to get into the third book & see what the series has next in store next.

    Format: Paperback
This is the second book in a series, so it helps to read Before You Were Mine first, but it is not necessary. This story is tragic and lovely at the same time. Jack is a Hollywood actor who abruptly leaves and returns to Melbourne, where his brother is preparing to marry. He meets his old girlfriend, Seraphina, whom he left behind when he went to the States for his career 10 years ago. Both of them harbor excessive guilt, but Jack's has turned into crippling anxiety, which he can no longer disguise. Sera doesn't trust him but can't resist either. There are lots of angsty details, which I like since we get to watch the author show us how these things are resolved and how the characters help each other. There are friends and family and a therapist. Jack knows he has to change, and he does. The ending is very satisfying. The situation is unusual once we know the details, which makes this better than the average second-chance romance.
I received an ARC for free and left this review voluntarily.

When You Were Mine is a second chance romance that follows Hollywood movie star Jack who is in need of some time away as well as a distraction and ends up going back to his hometown where he runs into Sera a sports teacher and also his first love. Jack and Sera have grown and are now different people but the chemistry they have will not let them walk away from a possible second chance at love. The characters are relatable with their humor, drama and the twists and turns in this story make it a definitely summer read.

This is was a cute second chance slow burn romance. Jack and Sera was together when they were teenagers but Jack left Sera to pursue a career in Hollywood breaking Sera heart. Years later then met again and Jack is back wanting to rekindled his relationship with Sera. Twist and turns in the book but does has HEA ending.
