Purchase options and add-ons
Are you embarrassed about taking your dog for a walk, as you are left thinking "who is walking who?"
Are you tired of being dragged around by your high-energy dog while they are choking themselves?
Do you feel like you have already tried everything and nothing seems to work?
Teaching a high-drive dog to stop pulling on the lead can feel impossible.
It's true that working breeds, especially those with a high prey-drive, need a special approach to achieve loose lead walking, which is missing from most conventional training protocols.
But there is a way to teach any dog to walk on a loose lead without resorting to forceful or aversive measures.
By following this training program, it will soon become second nature for your dog to walk nicely close to you.
With the help of this book, you’ll:
- Learn why dogs with a strong prey drive are pulling in the first place, so you can recognise how it is best to help them to stop.
- Understand why common loose lead walking advice isn’t always the right choice for you and your high-energy dog.
- Discover easy-to-implement exercises which set your dog up for success with their loose lead walking training by fulfilling their innate needs.
- Feel empowered to successfully apply your learning to your daily life, to make relaxed loose lead walking a reality!

About the Author

Hi, I'm Simone!
I'm so glad that you are here!
I am a certified dog trainer, dog behaviour consultant and specialist for high prey-drive dogs.
In this book, I share my years of experience as a trainer of dogs that love to chase wildlife.
With this force-free training protocol, you can look forward to learning how to successfully manage your dog's hunting behaviour.
I love supporting high prey-drive dogs and dog guardians across the world to grow together as a team.

Predation Substitute Training
For dogs that love to chase wildlife
Every dog has an instinctive need to hunt. Most training methods that aim to control predatory behaviour use force and punishment to work against a dog’s hunting desires. The result: your relationship with your dog suffers and you become a spoilsport!
But it doesn’t have to be this way! You can also use your dog's natural predatory instinct to strengthen your relationship and boost the success of your training.
Predation Substitution Training is a need-orientated training protocol that encourages you to harness your dog's natural hunting instinct in a fun and enjoyable way to allow you to successfully manage it safely.
Start your training like a pro - with more fun!
- Mutual Understanding: Learn what motivates your dog.
- Force-Free Training: Utilise your dog's natural predatory urges!
- Have Fun Together: Get to know fun and effective training games!
- Teach An Emergency Cue: Reliably interrupt dangerous situations without punishment.
Build a stronger bond
Predation Substitute Training allows you to build up a deep trust between you and your dog through play. Instead of punishing them when they show undesirable behaviour, you can experience individual parts of the hunting sequence together with your dog. Shared emotions lead to a stronger bond.
Use game-based training methods
Training should be fun for you and your dog! The Predation Substitute Training I have introduced is based on your dog's predatory motivation: You use their natural urges to hunt and turn this into a game with you. The training will be fun for both of you!
Communicate effectively
Communication with your dog is crucial for effective training. With game-based Predation Substitute Training, you will improve communication with your dog and refine the language you share. This will also help you with further training in other areas too!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2024I've got a Blue Heeler mix with all "Lets F'n GO!!! energy I could ever imagine. Ultra lovable, ultra loyal, but when it's time to hit the streets, absolute intensity. Walking was sometimes great and sometimes an absolute chore. He's an amazing dog but I just couldn't seem to get him to walk well with other methods I was trying . He either wanted to run or sniff with zero in between. The book is simple, direct, to the point, and most importantly effective. I felt like we had a great connection except in this one area. A couple of weeks in and we're both having so much more fun. I feel like the other methods I tried he just didn't understand at all that lead to me being frustrated and him choking himself sometimes and the book did a good job explaining why he just wasn't built for the styles of communication I was trying. He still has a ways to go, and I'm in a neighborhood filled with barking dogs, rabbits, and squirrels everywhere, so it's like walking from a relaxing home into the Fourth of July 10 feet down the sidewalk everyday, but we're doing SO MUCH better. It feels great making that better bond with him and really we made a lot of initial progress very quickly. I felt pretty guilty in hindsight I was trying to take what was supposedly sound advice but to him I was just erratic and incomprehensible. Anyway, it's a great, clear, simple book, and if you just do the work, you and your dog will be happier, if like me you've struggled a year or more, I say it's worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loose leash walking is the foundation for everything you want to do with your dog
And so few training books devote much, if any, space to the topic. The method here will work for your active high energy dog and for your distracted pet. Systematic and sensible, it's positive reinforcement all the way.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 8, 2024And all of the previous advice on how to teach your dog loose leash walking hasn’t helped-and maybe you sense it has even contributed to the difficulty-read this book. You just might find that you aren’t alone and that there are some methods that can help you and your dog work and walk more harmoniously together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book
I have previously read Hunting Together and found it very useful so I was keen to read this one too. Simone explains things in a logical and methodical way which is simple for anyone to understand. Is it a quick fix? No… but if something is fixed quickly, it can break apart just as quickly. I look forward to incorporating the exercises into training for my own and clients dogs.
