Watcher: An MM Romeo and Juliet Retelling (Star-Crossed Celestials Book 1) Kindle Edition
Jace has spent his entire life on the run from the Messengers, celestial beings from another realm who hunt his kind: Watchers, the fallen angels responsible for corrupting humanity … Then he meets Cyrus, the handsome Messenger with an easy smile who finally makes him want to stay in one place. The problem? Jace is the last descendant of the first disgraced Watcher, placing him just one rung below demons on the Messengers’ most-wanted list.
But Cyrus isn’t like other Messengers. He came to Sin City—the center of the angelic conflict—seeking peace, not more war. He doesn’t count on falling for the moody, dark-winged Watcher from the wrong side of town. Nor does he count on learning that his true enemy lurks closer than he ever imagined. As tensions rise between the celestial clans, will love or vengeance rule?
Romeo and Juliet gets a celestial spin (and a happier ending!) in this duology featuring forbidden love, a ride-or-die demon, a supernatural casino heist, bar brawls, and banter. Intended for readers ages 18+ and best enjoyed when read in the following order: Watcher (Book 1), Messenger (Book 2).
Note: This book ends on a soft cliffhanger and contains some sensitive content. Readers may wish to check the Author's Note for details.

Review
The world building is just perfect. It works beautifully with the two star-crossed or forbidden lovers. And Jace and Cyrus are just beautiful and hot together. — MM Book Reviewer in review of "Watcher" for "Dark Gods" anthology via BookBub

- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2022Holy cow that was great! So glad I read this. So much better then any Romeo and Juliet I’ve ever read! The world build was amazing, the different species and all. If you ever read the Shakespeare play, or even seen the Leo movie this is it only in a paranormal universe and so much better. The writing was great, the smexy was great and the action, love and banter were great. I can’t wait until the rest to come in the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2022This book is good! The action, the emotion, and the humor make this a good book. Jace and his sister have spent their lives on the run from powerful beings who want to kill them because of what an ancestor did centuries ago. Then he meets Cyrus, and the two men fall in love. It would not be be so bad except Cyrus is a member of the group that hates Jace. Jace and Cyrus decide to try to see if what they have will work. But there are more powerful forces at play trying to tear them apart. I am going to buy the next book in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2022And humans, too. Celestial bickering and battles set the scene in Las Vegas in this romantic drama. Morrow writes of the two contrasting sides, and the couple that bridge the chasm. Ending with a lead to a future book, it's not quite a HFN. Well written characters and intricate plot, heated passion and awesome fights.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2022I don't know what it was but this felt a bit forced I guess, maybe I just wasn't in the right mood to appreciate it. That being said I did think it was an enjoyable twist on Shakespeare's classic and I'll probably read book two when it comes out.

This read is definitely for adults.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2022Jace, a watcher, and his sister have been on the run their entire lives because of the sins of their forefather and other watchers, mixing, and breeding, with humans. The result of the union was demons, and the Messengers, another breed of Celestial, are sent to sort things out and something called "The Culling" occurred where many messengers and demons were killed. Now they have all been forced into Las Vegas and, crowded together, they are overseen by the Messengers and let's just say there is one, Xavier, who is not a big fan of Watchers and is actually quite cruel and ruthless. When a new lot of Messengers come to earth one of their number is Cyrus. When Cyrus and Jace meet it marks a turning point in both their lives and nothing will ever be the same again. The chemistry between the two is off the charts but there is just so much stacked against them. There is heartbreak as they both suffer a devastating loss. What happens if their worlds are driven too far apart? I cannot wait to see how their story will play out. The characters are really well rounded and have a great depth to them and the story is well-written and compelling.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

5 stars
It has been Watchers and Demons against Messengers for years. In Las Vegas, Watchers and Demons live on the bad side of town, Nocturna, while Messengers live luxuriously in Nova. One Watcher, Jace, has a terrible love history of falling in love too quickly and with people he should not fall in love with, especially Messengers. When Jace meets Messenger Cyrus, it is no different. With a war still brewing, Watcher follows Jace and Cyrus on their journey for love. Will love prevail? Or will the war between the kinds destroy their love? Find out in Watcher.
The characters in Watcher are relatable along with their emotions. Between power hungry Messenger Xavier, sweet Messenger Cyrus, mischievous Demon Cassian, and the sibling love of Watchers Jace and Hesper everyone will have someone they can relate to. A.L. Morrow uses the term “latter” quite a few times which sounded awkward after a while, but nothing to make this read not a 5-star. I enjoyed the story and its characters.
If you are looking for an exciting, celestial, love story that is like Romeo and Juliet, look no further. Give Watcher a try.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2022I liked this alternative, dystopian MM retelling of Romeo and Juliet (the MCs Jericho/Jace and Cyrus/Cy), yet I also disliked it. I hated that some key, very likeable secondary characters were killed, and I really kind of despised the weak and powerless female leader of the Messengers. Xavier may not have 'won,' but it felt like Cy sand Jace still lost. This is only the first book, so I still have hope for an eventual HEA that is satisfactory to me. Not even a HFN here. Just survival for the MCs.

4.0 out of 5 stars MM Romance.
4 Stars
Watcher is the first book in the Star-Crossed Celestials Duet by A.L Morrow. It takes ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and gives it a bit of a twist. This retelling comes with a MM paranormal romance and celestial spin which was definitely an extra element of interest for me. It’s full of fantasy, forbidden love, banter, humour, action, drama, celestials, demons, tension, and agendas.
I don’t want to give too much away and spoil it for you, because if you love your retellings with some fantasy and a sexy twist- then you are definitely going to want to read this story for yourself.
The story is set to continue in the next instalment…. Can’t wait! Bring on Book #2!
Happy Reading!
Thank you, A.L. Morrow!
