We Only Kiss at Christmas (Con Riley's Christmas Collection) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 361 ratings

Prepare for another snow-dusted, super-romantic and heart-clenching holiday gay romance from Con Riley.

All Sebastian Street wants for Christmas is justice. Oh, and some privacy to kiss his flatmate.

Heat shouldn't sizzle between best friends like it does between me and Patrick. He's my flatmate, not my boyfriend, a gym-bro powered by peace, love, and understanding. In comparison, I'm a yappy terrier fuelled by rage and sugary baked goods.

Expect a third flatmate to understand our opposites-attract dynamic?

No.

This could be our last December together. Our first alone in this flat.

I can’t share it. Or Patrick.

Not when we only kiss at Christmas.

Perfect for fans of friends to lovers and found families, visit London and Cornwall in We Only Kiss at Christmas, or double your festive enjoyment with His Last Christmas in London, the first standalone romance in this shared-world series.

Con Riley lives on the wild and rugged Devonshire coast, with her head in the clouds, and her feet in the Atlantic Ocean.

Injury curtailed her enjoyment of outdoor pursuits, so writing fiction now fills her free time. Love, loss, and redemption shape her romance stories, and her characters are flawed in ways that makes them live and breathe.

When not people watching, or wrangling her own boy band of teen sons, she spends time staring at the sea from her kitchen window. If you see her, don't disturb her—she’s probably thinking up new plots.

Con Riley is back with another swoony and dreamy Christmas romance set in London!

Seb and Pat definitely made my heart swoon and smile - they were both so sweet and stubborn! It was obvious how they’d both been pining for each other, while still respecting their rule about only kissing at Christmas. They were so adorable and I loved every swoony and romantic moment between this grumpy / sunshine couple!

The love they had for each other shone brightly, as well as the love for the city and their found family. The friendships were beautifully written and portrayed here, and it was absolutely precious to see. My heart ached for Seb though, as he really didn’t see how loved and treasured he was, even when he was surrounded by it.

I loved the pieces of Seb’s backstory, as it added another layer of depth and emotions. It was amazing to see him open up little by little through the story, and it also made it easier to understand his reluctance and hesitation when it came to Pat. Pat was a complete sweetheart though and I loved his patience, it was obvious how much he cared for Seb and how careful he was not to spook him.

We Only Kiss at Christmas was a book full of romance, Christmas magic and feels! The writing was gorgeous and it had such a lovely warmth to it. I also loved to see some of Con Riley’s other characters make appearances, and there was some clever connections here. I really hope that we get Jack’s story next year - he needs his own swoony HEA!

I made it thru the whole story without crying til the last chapter and epilogue!! (They were happy tears…fyi!) I adore this author and her writing soooo much and each new character is just beautifully done. There is so much depth and emotion to Seb and Pat. I loved following along while Seb finally opened his heart to Pat and to others of his found family. To see Seb still have his hard edges but be rounded out by love and acceptance was beautiful. Thank you for Seb and Pat and all the others mentioned in this wonderful Christmas story!!

This story was too wordy. I could not get into it. It could been brought in some to get clarity. The neediness of certain characters killed the vibe. I will continue the series to see if there is better storytelling.

I love everyone of Con Riley’s books. They draw you in and you can’t let go. And the characters are all unique, wonderful, amazing people. I did not want this book to end, because I was so engaged with it. Can’t wait for next year’s Christmas book.

Lovely story about a man who could be seen as damaged finding that he has, and has had for quite a while, a perfect, loving relationship. And, if you read Con's work, you know to look for cameos of other characters you have loved in the past.

Con Riley is a superbly talented author, but the recent offerings of Finding Mr. Fabulous and We Only kiss at Christmas are frankly much harder to read and enjoy than they should be, given the strength of the characters in the story. Continue with the first person perspective if you must, but please, the use of the present tense just ruins the story flow and writing, and I don’t think I would bother buying another of this side series.

While Book 1 captured me almost instantly, and I was anxious to see what would happen with this pair, I did find this one a bit more difficult to take in . The writing while beautiful became at times a bit much. I found myself occasionally wanting to shout, “please land the plane!” That said, it’s lovely with enough twists and turns, enough fresh interesting characters, and the climatic scenario is totally cry worthy.

3.0 out of 5 stars La magie n'a cette fois pas opéré
Reviewed in France on December 30, 2023

I loved book one Ian and Guy’s story where we met Seb and Patrick, Ian’s flatmates, and their relationship, which everyone knew about except them, intrigued me. It was everything I hoped it would be. Opposites in every way, Seb a law student who was like a little Rottweiler and Patrick, the gentle giant working at a gym and wanting to be a fitness trainer who was an absolute sweetheart, so patient and the voice of reason whenever Seb went off on one. They were a match made in heaven.

This was an emotional page turner, heartfelt, very moving at times, but there was also a lot of humour, and steam when they got their act together. When Patrick’s wonderful and supportive family were introduced some of the scenes had me crying.

Jack was a brilliant addition and added a good dimension to Seb and Patrick and I particularly liked the dynamic when he became their new flatmate and seeing how Seb dealt with the change.

Auntie sounded like an angel and when we found out about Seb’s background I couldn’t have loved her more. I wanted to wrap him in a hug which Patrick did when he found out. I wish we had got to meet her.

Arthur added another dimension. Such a lovely man and his developing friendship with Jack was a nice touch. It was good to catch up with Ian and Guy and see them still loved up, and Penny, what an amazing woman who loves all the guys and her relationship with Guy is one of mutual admiration. When Guy critiques her and her husband’s restaurant for his column, dissing it regularly, she finds it funny and says it’s good for business.

The epilogue was heartfelt and wrapped the story up nicely and I cannot wait to read Jack’s story next to see if he follows any of Seb’s lectures on confidence building and spotting deceitful people like Lito.

Really enjoyed the dynamics of these 2 mc’s. Enjoyed the glimpses of Ian and Guy and meeting Jack, but Seb and Patrick were both so wonderful and well fleshed out.
