Collision Course (Westin Force Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,304 ratings

Our love was a secret, forbidden, and then I went and screwed it all up.

Eight years ago, Baine Landry was a young, naïve boy in love with his best friend’s little sister. He knew she was off limits, but that hadn’t stopped him from succumbing to her innocent, and sometimes not-so-innocent charm. Sure, Olivia was five years younger, but she was about to come of age and he foolish thought her family would accept him. He was wrong. His biggest regret in life would always be confiding in his best friend, her brother.

Today, Baine is a sexy explosives loving bear shifter and proud part of Westin Force Bravo team. Demolition is his expertise. He loves his life, but a part of him always feels missing. During the daylight hours smiles and jokes are his defense to cover the pain he still harbors. But in the night, she still haunts his every dream.

Olivia Murphy had loved only one man in her life. Her heart still belonged to him. Eight years ago he’d disappeared without a word. Her father explained he had chosen to leave, but she never believed it. He had left before she could tell him the secret she carried.

The last seven years hadn’t been easy on Olivia – single mom, beauty school, starting a business. It was all worth it though and she was proud of her accomplishments.

They can’t redefine the past, but when a new mission to save the Clan from a Raglan threat brings Baine back to town, he discovers he left more behind than he thought. There are many obstacles still in their path. It won’t be easy, but they might just have a second chance at love. Or will the pain and betrayal of the past be too much for true love to conquer?

I am always a fan of Julie Trettel’s characterization and exciting plots as she entices me further into everything Westin pack-related by putting together an unusual and eclectic group of shifters in a secret Special Ops group called Team Bravo. Collision Course (Westin Force #3) focuses on the team member Baine, the bear shifter, who seems to be having an existential crisis watching his various Bravo team members find their true mates and move toward domestic bliss and happiness. Baine tries to acknowledge to himself that he is a content loner who enjoys his life, but guards his broken heart from an unrequited love experience from his youth.

Silas informs the Bravo team that they are leaving for a mission in Colorado, specifically in Blaine’s former Clan. Blaine would rather opt-out of the mission, but Silas knows that Blaine’s skills are needed for the team. Blaine WILL be going and his personal issues from his younger days will be put aside for the benefit of team Bravo.
When they land in Colorado, the initial meeting with the bear Clan is cool, but once Silas explains their mission to the bear Alpha Koda, emotions become friendlier since they are there to save Koda’s father Pike. Blaine is forced to face his former bear shifters in the clan, and gossip moves fast among the bears, including Olivia, his former love. Blaine’s emotions ping pong all over the place as he literally confronts his past and completes several missions with his team.

I am soooo indebted to Julie Trettel in “gifting” readers with the most memorable and lovable, short-stuff character known as Macie. Macie is a seven year old girl chronologically, but the kid‘s maturity is more like a 35 year old woman with the finely-tuned humor and sarcasm of a sixty year old comedienne. She is a hell-on-wheels spitfire as she tells her Dad, “Well, you are the one that threw us to the dogs. Now we’re both going to be in trouble. Way to go…You certainly aren’t going to earn Father of the Year at this rate.”

I really enjoyed the adventure of Blain finding out he had a family. The acceptance back into his original clan was sure something he never expected. It was courageous of Macie and “O” to make the long distance move as they did for Blain. Ups and downs?? Yes. But it all worked out.

Baine fell in love with his best friends little sister. Baine made the mistake of telling his best friend. Before he knew what was happening Baine lost the girl, his family, his best friend and his clan. Baine was given a choice leave the clan or be killed, no goodbyes just leave and never come back. Now Baine works for Westin Force and his next mission will take him back to the clan whether he likes it or not. Will Baine see his old love again? Will he have a second chance at love if he does see her? There is a lot going on behind the scenes in this book and I loved every minute of it. This is a must read.

Julie has done it again with Collision Course, I loved Bain's story and when he had to return to his clan that he had been exiled from to rescue his former Alpha O was in pins and needles. I will not give any more information away because you will love it and have to read it yourself.
Julie, I wanted to say how much I enjoyed Macie and the last chapter being her point of view. I am hoping that in some of your future books you will consider having some true mates be more mixed species again and integrate them into the Weston Pack. I love the idea of it and who knows maybe Macie and Oscar will become true mates and he turns out to be both wolf and tiger. That would be awesome

This book was the best in the series so far. I liked Baine a lot and his love for Olivia was beautiful. My favorite tropes to read are ones with adorable kids and although I thought Macie was a little advanced to be seven she was still a cute kid. I loved the epilogue and hopefully the friendship will turn into true mates🤞🏾

I absolutely loved Collision Course. Baine is such a stud and I am convinced inside the handsome, strong, exterior is one of the most romantic guys ever. I love the relationships that are formed between Baine and the rest of Westin Force. These are guys that have each other's backs no matter what. Olivia is a complete sweetheart and her emotions are so tangible it made me feel like I knew exactly how she was feeling. Macie is a hoot and a half. She kept me smiling and laughing at her innocence and her straight-forward, this is how it is demeanor. One of Julie's best to date. I highly recommend reading this book!

Of the three books of the Westin Force series which I read (3, 4, and 6), I found this one to be the weakest. It was the first one I read ... and it had enough interest I went on to read two more of the books of the series - so "weak" is a relative term.

Star-crossed young love leaves secrets and pain in its wake when elders "who know better" tear them apart. Years later, the young-love bump together after becoming full adults. Now the secrets and pain come out. All with a paranormal twist of bear shifters and military-thriller twist the overarching storyline of the Westin Force series.

I didn't like the "forgive everyone" vibe - I found it too pat, and nearly toxic. Their family tried to KILL them. Destroyed nearly 8 years of relationship. Lied. Everyone lied. But the people doing the forgiving are bear shifters, so it could be base to their personality? The need to let go of anger because of the power of being a shifter, maybe? (this comes up in the next book, so it could be part of the species "healthy" mind)

When your family is toxic, and you gain found-family which teaches you how not to be toxic, you may need to forgive - to let go - so the toxic doesn't kill you. But there is absolutely no need to go back into that toxic environment. Forgiveness does not mean forgetting what caused you pain and letting it happen again.
