About the Author

Charlene Carr is an ardent lover of words. A voracious reader, when she needed punishment as a child her parents took her books away. These punishments were blessings in disguise - with nothing to read, she created her own stories. Pursuing her life-long obsession with words, Charlene studied literature in University, attaining both a BA and MA in English. She contributed to that learning by also earning a Bachelor of Journalism. She chose to work as a freelance writer, editor, and facilitator so she could develop and grow her writing skill while having the time and flexibility to focus on her own creative work. Currently, she's focusing exclusively on novel writing and loving every minute of it ... well, almost every minute. There are days when her characters fight to have the story their way! (And they're almost always right.) Charlene lives in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada and loves exploring the amazing coastline of her harbour town, dancing up a storm, and using her husband as a guinea pig for the healthy, yummy recipes she creates!

I'm a lover of words. Pursuing this life-long obsession, I attained a BA and MA in English literature and a Bachelor of Journalism.

After travelling the globe for several years working in mostly writing related jobs, I decided the time had come to focus exclusively on my true love - novel writing. My upcoming novel, Hold My Girl, about an IVF egg switch, released in early 2023 in Canada and the UK and is available for pre-order now in the US.

My first series, A New Start, is a collection of five standalone novels. The books follow the journey of four friends, all imperfect people making imperfect choices. They hit roadblocks. They have breakthroughs. They live life.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. This author is one of my new favorites. I didn't think she could top her first book but boy was I wrong. This is a great book. The travels that Autumn takes to work through her grief are some of the very ones I went through when I lost my mother. Though it is a book about how this lady,Autumn, works through her grief, it is not a depressing mournful story. It is her honest, and very human, sometimes sad, sometimes funny, working through this. And thankfully, how she came out on the other end. Though at times I got lost in the book, there were times when I wondered where the author was going. At the end it all made sense and is a very beautiful story about love, and loss, and being OK. This is a must read!

I liked it. I did a lot of thinking during the book. There were times when I couldn't stop reading it. I did, however, expect a different ending. I guess I was hoping for one, but I see why it ended the way in which it did....growing and learning to be yourself first is a huge lesson one has to make. I love books that make one ponder life's challenges.

This book was hard to put down, I loved the first one and read it in one day. This one took me a week but was worth every moment of Autumn's life. I was so hopeful for her through every page. The descriptions of her friends in Italy made me want to join them. Wish there was a second part for Autumn! I recommend this to anyone of any age no matter what your going through!

I read lots of books and enjoy reading. This book was tough for me to finish because I just didn't like the main character. I felt so bad for her loss in the beginning, but as the book progressed, and especially when her mom got sick, I just didn't care for her or her actions. I really wanted to like her and even felt kind of bad for feeling this way, but she was so extreme. When I bought this book I didn't realize it was the second book in the series. I was able to get the first book for free. I'm not sure if I'll even be reading it.

I received this book free from the author for an honest review. The story starts out sad but ends up good. I couldn't put it down after I started reading it. It was a tear jerker at times, but the author did a great job of easing the pain the reader feels for Autumn through her journey of grief. I highly recommend this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars I so wanted to love this but.....

I read to escape, to learn, to be whisked away into others lives and for pure enjoyment of the written word. This author is a talented writer, there is no denying that but this book was crumby. I hated the lead character... I understand the need to portray a flawed and selfish individual but there was no growth and I didn't actually care at the end what happened to her. There was so much potential for this book to be beautiful and poignant but it was miserable and didn't appear heartfelt. I could have loved the character had she developed or grown. I am sorry for the harsh review and will try the next book in the series as the actual writing was beautifully crafted, just missed the mark on what could've been a gorgeous story about love, family, connections and grief.

I enjoyed this book so much that I only took 2 days to read it! I needed a box of tissues beside me too as I was actually sobbing. I thought the first book in this series was good, that's the reason I bought the second one. But - - - this one is BETTER!
    Keep writing Charlene Carr ......
