Where Waves Break: A Nanny/Single Father Romance (The Seasons Change) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 3,676 ratings

My new boss is:

-A former rock star, turned grumpy mechanic

-A single dad

-My teenage crush

It was supposed to be a one week job. Nannying Diego Garza’s adorable, four-year-old son should’ve been easy.

But things get complicated when Diego catches me doing something I shouldn’t. When he confronts me, I do the only thing I can think of: get down on my knees.

To my surprise, he doesn’t get angry.

Instead, Diego Garza calls me a good girl.

Then my one week job turns into all summer. I’m living with Diego and his son, desperately trying to forget how right it felt to be on my knees for him and how badly I crave to hear more of his praise.

Except Diego doesn’t forget. All day I take care of his son, and every hot summer night, he takes care of me. He tells me I’m perfect. Beautiful. Sexy.

I want to belong to Diego Garza in every way. But he hasn’t asked me to stay when this job is over at the end of summer.

The question is…when I’m not his nanny anymore, will I still be his?

(Where Waves Break can be read as a complete standalone!)

Julia Wolf writes sexy rockers, grumpy billionaires, snarky heroines, and bad ass women. She’s a firm believer in happily ever afters, no matter how rocky the road is to get there.

She doesn’t believe in “guilty pleasures”, only pleasure. Reading about a plus size woman who gets absolutely railed by a hot rock star is pleasure. Reading about a damaged college student whose flaws are valued and loved by the grumpy guy next door is pleasure. Reading about love in a small town or big city or on a tour bus is pleasure. Reading romance is pleasure!

Julia lives in Maryland with her husband and three crazy, beautiful children. When she’s not writing romance, she’s reading it. Some of her favorite things are, in no particular order: goats, books, coffee, and Target.

Emotional & spicy romance
I needed a minute with this book because Julia Wolf utterly destroyed me. I was practically dehydrated from crying but I could not put this book down.Diego Garza is hall of fame book boyfriend material for his amazing caregiving nature coupled with his big stubborn brooding personality. I mean even when he was infuriating, he was appealing and that’s some kind of writing magic.I should add that June was his perfect match. This girl was goals from page one because she was taking control of her life and making her own choices. There was a lot of growth here and so much maturity. She was competent and powerful in her own way and she knew herself and her own desires.Their story was sweet in an epically smoking hot kind of way that involved choosing when to hand control over to your partner and when to keep it.For trope lovers:🎶 Single dad / nanny🎶 praise kink🎶 Forced proximity🎶 Pining crush🎶 Submission / power exchange🎶 Fresh start🎶 Dual 1st person POV🎶 open doorThere were a lot of highlights in this book for me so I randomly chose this one to share which I think really captures the vibe: “I’d nearly come apart at the seams. I went from sweet, shy June to a good f###ing girl.”

I’m so glad June ended up with her crush, but holy cow! I did not see that coming!! Shy little June? And, Diego’s back story was absolutely heartbreaking. The book to end this series was exactly what I expected… sweet and spicy!

    Spoiler ahead!

I have only one thing that I feel was missed by the editor. No one should refer to being sprung by their toddler. The use of sprung earlier in the book was in a sexual way. To later use it as a loving endearment was gross.

Aside from that, the book was relatable. The emotions were easy to feel and were raw at times. This was written so well that it was like being one of these characters. I loved the character development between these two. Watching their growth throughout the whole story felt good. I also loved how motions were not glossed over, hard topics were discussed, and doing what is best for yourself no matter how hard that is was encouraged. These were both strong main characters and the side characters were just as amazing. Well done.

I loved all the seasons change books and I’m a huge fan of this author. However, I’m just not into the whole submissive thing and after reading about June and her father, I felt icky reading the spicy scenes. Loved all the other books, but this one missed the mark for me and my preferences personally. Still good writing. Just not my cup of tea.

I completely fell in love with this book. It was powerful and full of emotion plus all the delicious tension.
My first Julia wolf book was built to fall, and I'm a complete sucker for a plus size romance, add in some Rockstar spice and I was sold. However this story was such an amazing surprise! I was so intrigued by June and the way her and her sister Iris were at complete odds when it came to their personality, in reading "falling in reverse" you meet June a little and you kind of get the feeling that their was more than meets the eye with her, and well... let's just say Diego definitely makes her shine. I felt such a kindship with her and the way she walks around in the world, she's shy and emotionally raw but still fights everyday to better herself with her strength. Diego was such an amazing dad, he has a special place with me, I loved the way he loved & they way he supported and protected June. Granted not everything was easy, diego still has some things in his past weighing him down.. all he wants is to be the best father he can be and nothing and no one will get in his way, he's closed himself off to anything else good but lets just say... June has a away of getting under his control ;)

I can honestly say this book was my favorite of Julia's work, Diego and June hold a very special place with me. I love them together. Definitely recommend reading Julia's other works but if you had to choose one to start with, this is the one.

Beautiful, full of emotion, tension and delicious spice!

Not only do we get to see June and Diego realize they are it for each other, but we get to see where all of the band is in their love and family in 5 years. So glorious! June and Diego were slow burn, but when that match finally lit... Whew... Fireworks! I am a firm believer that found fily is sometimes better then blood fily and Julia Wolf captures it beautifully! Great book and series. Recommend!

Julia Wolf’s Where Waves Break is book 4 of The Season’s Change rockstar series. It is about Santiago’s brother (from the book Unrequited) Diego and Iris’ sister June’s romance. June has been a nanny for Santiago and Maeve’s little one and is known as the “child whisperer” among friends. June resigned from her parent’s medical practice and joins Iris on tour to help take care of bassist Callum and Wren’s son Ezra as well as Milo, Diego’s son. Since The Season’s Change is down a drummer, Diego is filling in for Roddy their regular drummer. Diego has demons of his own to overcome from his past with addictions and trust issues due to Milo’s mom who passed away. Even after Diego returns home to work in his dad’s and realizes he needs a full-time nanny until Milo begins school in the fall. With sparks of attraction arcing between Diego and June, they decide to indulge their passions until the end of summer. Then a big issue crops up that tears them apart. Finding a solution and true love is quite a feat, but Julia Wolf stunningly brings about the HEA. Always a good romance is written by Julia Wolf no matter if it is a contemporary story, rockstars, or a bully romance. Every book is worth re-reading on the regular! I Love Julia Wolf, a truly talented author.

I loved that the story actually talks about stages of addiction and recovery, stages of grief, and embracing the possibility of a life past what you feel you deserve.

The storyline has a really good Dom/sub dynamic and I loved that the author even wrote about aftercare. (Important aspect to a Dom/sub sex life).

It's a great read! The steamy parts are 💦🥵💦🥵, the genuine character development is refreshing, and overall it's a MUST READ.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic chemistry!
Reviewed in Germany on July 20, 2023
I haven't read all of Julia Wolf's books. The first book I read was Stone Cold Notes, the second book of the series, which I didn't realize was part of a series at first. But I fell in love with the series and all the characters. Though, I didn't make the step back and read Iris story. But it was only logical to me afterwards to read Faded to Bloom and now Where Waves Break.

So, I only knew about Diego and June, what I have read in those two books. And I will probably, like with Iris, not read the Unrequited series to get the story about Santiago and Maeve. Or Mo and Mic. I just don't like to make steps back, when I already have seen them as a couple, and I have read some spoilers through the books of this series.

But I digress, the chemistry between Diego and June was off the charts. It was so naturally between them. And June's relationship with Camilo was so sweet. Really, there was a lot to love. And it was so full of emotions, either.

And the epilogue made up a lot. Even corrected some of my feelings about the epilogues of the former books. It was the perfect conclusion for me. And I'm sad that it's over. But it was an amazing journey. I don't know if I will read other books of Julia Wolf, because normally I read mostly RH books and Omegaverse. Contemporary is a rare thing for me. But I really got caught up on the story from Callum and Wren. And then I had to read the rest. Still, I don't know what I would want to read next. But maybe I will read more.

So, I was happy with the story, the characters, and the ending.

Been waiting for June's story since iris.
    Love, love loved it.
Though in the series I love wren, I think it's a tie between Wrens and June's story. All of the season are brilliant. Well worth a read.
Touching, heartfelt, love and sadness (without causing tears thankfully)
Even if the kink isn't your thing, the writing around it is brilliant.

Julia Wolf is one of my favorite authors!! She doesn’t resort to a formula with her books…her next booking coming out about a grumpy boss…surprised me…didn’t expect it…that’s why she’s so good. This book was just so lovely and heartbreaking and…real. Different from her other books. I love how her characters are consistent…they don’t all of a sudden turn into something they’re not. The endearments were beautiful and the steam is always perfect. Loved the supporting characters…loved how her characters were smart and not cliche. Another Julia Wolf book…another 5 stars!
