Where Angels Fall (City of Sin Book 1) Kindle Edition
/fāt/
what is meant to be, will be.
a cord that can not be unraveled.
Makenna Taylor and Reid Landry are high school sweethearts. He was her first. Her only. They had life all planned out. Right down to the white picket fence and 2.5 kids. Then Reid joined the Marines, and from that day forward, life as Makenna knew it would never be the same.
She thought she was a simple girl with a part time job waiting tables while she worked her way through college. She thought she had the fairytale. She thought Callisto Suppato was just another man.
She was wrong.
Soon, she would learn that every family has secrets. Every stranger has a dark side. And love isn’t just a simple four-letter word. The curtain is pulled back, and Makenna’s world begins to unravel, thread by thread, to reveal something darker. Something she’d only heard about in the whispers of her grandmother’s living room. A world many know about but simply refuse to see.
This is not an MFM story. It is not a love triangle and there is NO CHEATING. This is the story of three people’s lives intertwined in the threads of fate and the timeless question that always remains unanswered: What if?
Author's note: While the trilogy itself is darker, this book is more in the gray. Check content warning. This is labeled as book one but it reads more like a prequel. Please keep that in mind. The trilogy does end with an HEA but this book does not. You were warned.
*The City of Sin trilogy was previously published as Sin with Me in 2016. New content and dual POV.*

About the author

Delaney Foster is a native of the deep bayous of sweet Louisiana, not far from New Orleans, where eating, drinking, and dancing are much a requirement for citizenship. She loves all things romance, a good glass of wine, and Saturdays at the baseball park. She does believe leggings are pants and is a bit of a book whore. In her heart, Mr. Darcy will always be the ultimate book boyfriend. And in her books, you will find sexy alpha males and the strong women who love them.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2023DELANEY LOUANN FOSTER!! Girl! I am screaming. Now friends, I really have no Idea what this author’s actual given middle name truly is so I gave her one of my own choosing. Because I am southern AF and down here where I am from ( Georgia) the number of names I holler out reflects the level of emotional distress I am feeling at that given moment. If I have “middle-named” ya I’m feelin’ something, but by golly If I have FULL named ya, you know what you did and if you don’t you soon WILL. lol
So now I have conveyed to everyone my current emotional state, and it ain’t great in some ways but in some it’s amazing. This story Where Angels Fall is partially to blame. Well mostly, but not all. I am addicted to the dark, devious, and sinister worlds this author pens so perfectly. I knew before I even started Where Angels Fall all the potential for unpredictability, and emotional wrecking because she does those things so well. But like the literary junkie I am, a total glutton, greedy to get my hands on every single word she writes I jumped in Helen Keller style. ( the bestest way to do it IMO) I went in blind and didn’t listen to anything about the book details. I have loved all her other books so I thought I would like this one. I did not like this one. I FLIPPIN LOVED IT!!
HOLY MOTHER! Y’all I know I said my emotions are a mess and they are BUT that is because I read stories for these kinds of love stories. For that First perfect and pure love. It’s so new and patient. The kind so true that it doesn’t give a rip about economical differences or popularity. It’s just burning hot passionate love built on a solid foundation you know could withstand all time. The ever important supportive, loyal and protective kind. The unforgettable sacrificial love. You know, like Jack floating on a door for Rose and turning into a frozen Jacksicle.
( there was most definitely room for him on that dang door y’all) Anyhoo…
These characters were, and are everything. Makenna, Reid, and Cal have this incredible yet highly emotional series of devastating circumstances that causes their lives to become entwined. (even if they don’t yet know it) Gah the way the story unfolds. I love the telling of events from four years ago to the present and getting different characters' views.
While I know I mentioned three main characters and made reference to love, I will say not to fear this is NOT a love triangle story and there is NO cheating. It will suck you in and you are nowhere near ready to be spit back out. You will cry, you will rage, you will swear, but you will most definitely swoon. I know I am pretty vague on details and I will continue to be so because SpoilersSuck!! Take my advice and PLEASE read this phenomenal story. Like me you will probably need to seek out someone to talk to. Because we read some things and were not okay. I need the next book ASAP. However I am pretty certain I will never fully recover from this trilogy and I can’t wait for it to leave its scars. I welcome the pain because eventually it gives way to pleasure.
Five Stars just doesn’t cut it. SIX IT IS! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Review: I knew going into this book that it was going to end differently than what I typically read. It tells the story of Reid and Makenna who meet in high school and fall in love. We spend the next 4 years with them as they graduate, begin college, Reid joins the Marines, and Makenna is left home to continue her nursing degree and pine for him while he’s away. They also run into a few menacing situations and there is an overall sinister theme to their romance. This book was well-written and had some good spice, but it was heartbreaking and ends on a very sorrowful note.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2023This book was so good... bit it also broke me... it's not dark like The Obsidian Brotherhood but it's equally as good... not that I'm surprised... the love story between Reid and Makenna was beautiful and tragic and also so relatable. I can't wait for the next book... beware, this does end on somewhat of a cliffhanger... I'm dying to see how this all plays out...
- Reviewed in the United States on September 25, 2023Wow. This trilogy is going to go down as my top read for 2023 if not ever. The way Delaney writes is SO BEAUTIFUL! I cried so much during this story, but man. I can't even say much to not give the story away but it was life changing.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2023I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started When Angels Fall, all I knew was I've loved everything I've read by Delaney Foster. This was no exception!!
You need to go into this blind, trust me you won't be disappointed if you do! Just know that McKenna and Reid are characters you will fall in love with. They have chemistry for days, and you will be on the edge of your seat!!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2023I cannot recommend this book enough! I would of given it a 5 but.... It is a little too slow paced for me.
This is book 1 of a Trilogy, Delaney Foster calls it more of a prequel and you will understand when you get to the end.
This is a great love story, following 3 people with an intertwined fate- Reid, Makenna, and Cal.

Where Angels Fall (City of Sin #1) by Delaney Foster
Contemporary Romance
New Adult/Coming of Age
Shy Girl/Popular Guy

After reading Delaney’s Obsidian Brotherhood series I was immediately invested as soon as I found the first release for City of Sin and I really enjoyed the diversity of the range, being that City of Sin does have some darker elements but is more on the grey side. Especially this first book, that starts with such heart clenching sweetness, hope and rose-coloured love that you get immediately swept away in the pure romance of it.
Reading this it was easy to forget that it was only the first book in a trilogy and there is so much to come. I was immediately drawn in by Makenna and her story of adaptation to survive in a world that has left her lonely, yet she is so strong; she gets on with it, doesn’t complain and does what’s in her control to make her happy. Until her best friend drags her to a party and Reid Landry decides tonight is the night to make this shy, beautiful, clever and strong girl his.
Reid is vibrant, sexy, fun and flirty. He says and does all the right things to make us and Makenna weak at the knees with his possessive need to make her his.
We also meet – or should I say feel – another presence, a mystery man in a dark alley with an inexplicable connection to Makenna even after a fleeting moment. (More on him in my review for Book 2).
This first book is a masterclass in high school sweetheart, new adult, finding our way together because home is a person, not a place – until it’s not…
As much as this book makes your heart soar with happiness for Maks and Reid, it will also ache for their trauma and struggle so have some tissues nearby!
As always, I was highlighting passages, quotes, words immediately – Delaney has a gift of including just the right aspects to bring everything, the scene, the emotions, the characters to life. The sweetness of the starburst moment will live with me forever!

5.0 out of 5 stars straight up amazing
I felt so many emotions throughout this book.
This book started off like a romance but definitely leads you down a little dark path.
Love the characters
The writing is phenomenal. Some passages just resonate so well.
