An Earl distracted by his work…will he wake up in time to find the love of his life right in front of him?

Miss Ann Whyte has been sent to London under the care of one Earl of Ware, doing so to honor a promise to her brother. Attempting to make the best of the situation, she is deeply affronted when the Earl ignores her entirely and thrusts her into the care of his mother. Ann determines to throw herself into society and hopes to quickly find a suitor, thinking that no gentleman could be worse than her host!

Geoffrey, the Earl of Ware, cannot help but be attracted to Miss Whyte but resolves not to be distracted by her. Hearing that French spies may already be in London and having been forced to return home from the war himself, Geoffrey is determined to protect his country. However, when other gentlemen begin to pursue Miss Whyte, Geoffrey struggles with his feelings. When Miss Whyte finds herself unknowingly in danger, Geoffrey knows he must protect her.

Will he dare to confess his love? And can Ann ever come to care for him in return?

Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother (Mom didn't like the sexy book covers!)

She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her. She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.

On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!

Dare has offered to host his friend's sister for the season. She has come, and he has decided to distance himself because of her beauty. He doesn't need distractions as he continues in the war effort. Ann is hurt by this, but has other gentlemen interested. But things are not as they appear, and the continuing story involves intrigue and true romance. Well done!

I get the feeling that this particular series of stories really needs to be read in order, as each builds in the previous one. The challenge presented originally is for returning noblemen who have fought and been injured in the war with Napoleon join forces to find traitors within the Ton who wish to aid the French. This second book basically picks up where the first left off. This set of characters contains many from the first book with additional ones to help expand the story. I am totally caught up in the mystery of finding those who would be traitors and enjoy seeing how these injured and affected young men unintentionally get drawn into a semblance of normalcy through the presence of a strong and caring young woman. I look forward to reading the next of the series.

This book did not disappoint! Sigh. Too bad it had to end. I loved the characters. Geoffrey tried to deny his attraction to Ann (why even bother?) and she was a sweetheart. I also really liked Lady Ware. What an overall great story!

From the beginning Geoffrey was rude to the young lady his mother was sponsoring for the season, the sister of a man who saved his life in the war. He's attracted to Ann but acts coldly, pushing her away, and forgetting about the dances he promised with her, afraid that his feelings for her will distract him from his efforts with the war. At one point in the book she said didn't hold a grudge against him for his actions, but that's not true because she was very angry and sad over it. Part of his problem is he kept things from Ann and then acted strange. If he had only taken her in his confidence sooner they would have had less issues, but that did add to the drama in the story.

A stand alone book in the enjoyable series that involves intrigue and mystery all wrapped up in a nice romance.
The author does a great job at creating well developed characters and plots.
I have read the books in sequence and find it extra enjoyable but it is not necessary to follow the plot in this book.
