    The storyline was predictable and rather lackluster. I've also read enough books in the high adventure and thrills genre with emphasis on SpecOps/Black Ops to know these highly trained groups of military men tend to have a disdain for the use of the word "silencer" to describe the so-called can on the end of the barrel of a handgun and long gun. In the military that is far more commonly known as a suppressor, which does not fully "silence" the bullet as it travels through the barrel, but it does suppress the sound of the shot. Little details like that have a tendency to detract one's focus, because if there's one, more will follow.

    This is the 1st book in this series and the series kooks like a good one. The story begins with Chase meeting up with a team to discuss a mission on how to keep a journalist alive. The individual will be going to the Venezuelan embassy whe the President of that country has ordered this person's death.

    After arriving in Vienna, the team makes a plan to thwart the killing. When the day arrives, they make a plan and arrive at the embassy early. They set up and wait. After he arrives, he is taken to the ambassador's office where he is captured. To complete this assignment, a major battle occurs.

    To find out the magnitude of the battle and how they were able to survive, then you need to read this book.

    I really wanted to like this book. I like the genre and the characters are OK. But OK isn’t enough. There was no depth to the characters, likeable as they are. I just didn’t find the story or the characters compelling enough to continue.

    The book is relatively short and that may be its undoing. An editor should be able to help here. I guess I could put it like this: Good basic recipe that does nothing wrong, but missing ingredients that would make it “tasty.” It’s a competitive marketplace in this genre and there are too many better choices.

    I stumbled upon this author and thought why not. Wicked Deceit by Chase Austin is the first book about problem solver Sam Wick. In this book they are supposed to keep a journalist safe from assassination by the Venezuelan government. To make matters worse the journalist is seeking hel at their embassy! This was a actionfilled thriller with a main character that has no clue about his past. I really liked it and has got three more books on my tbr pile already.

However, receiving death threats is a professional hazard in certain jobs!…..I was quickly drawn in, eager to find out what would happen next and how Wick would handle the situation; actually, several situations. I’m already looking forward to finding out what Sam’s future missions will be.

    What a great second novel by Mr Austin. Written in advance of recent events but definitely concurrent with them in the same style and foresight as a number of other excellent writers over the last 30 or so years who have written novels of great passion and insight that have uncannily seen real events parallel their fictional narratives. When you read this new novel you will understand more deeply and I’ll not share any spoilers at all but I heartily recommend the second Sam Wick novel as highly as I do the first.
    A great read that will keep your mind turning back to it when life intervenes and you temporarily have to put it down. Will you want to pick it back up at the very first opportunity that you have, yes, yes you will, I guarantee it!
    It really is that sort of a book, as was the first one.
    A well thought out thriller with Sam Wick being the sort of hero who fills the mould that the old cliche states as being someone that “men want to be and women want to be with” Written in a manner which I am sure that Robert Ludlum and Lee Child et al would approve of, this new series of thriller novels is one that I am really enjoying so far and I am really looking forward to seeing it continuing through a long and successful future.     The story is a quick in and out job, that is exactly what you get!

    But what I ask myself , did I enjoy it, well yes, no time for chat, no time for a build up, just action.

    It is fast paced, it has to be, but do I miss the build up, yes a little.

    But overall a quick fast paced action thriller.
