An erotic journey into the underbelly of the legal profession, the corporate culture of profit-at-any-cost, and the secret world of industrial espionage.

Sid Rivers and Jack Brown are two sides of the same coin. One is a lawyer with his own firm and dreams of money and power; the other is a criminal with a lengthy record and a quest for vengeance. When they meet, sparks fly. But was their meeting an accident? Or, was it planned by the billionaires who want to control their destiny?

IN THIS EPISODE: (Episode 4 of 6)
With Jack Brown's cover completely blown, it's time for Jack to reel Sid Rivers in, even if he has to break the man to do it. Jeffery Marn knows his firm is under attack. Client's are leaving, his private files are in play, and his senior partners have become targets throughout the South. But he's not going down without a fight. He'll go to any lengths to make sure he survives.

Great stories should not depend on gender or sexual preference of a character, but instead upon the strength of the characters and the honesty and urgency of the story.

Brandon Shire proves he understands the complexity of writing LGBT fiction from two very different viewpoints - serious and smexy. His serious fiction is written for those who enjoy a book which explores life's darker elements in a more literary form, while the smexy fiction is for those who enjoy a graphically erotic romance.

Regardless of the differentiation above, Brandon writes for people who enjoy being challenged, and for those who strive to understand situations they don't typically encounter. He pens raw, emotional stories about characters which readers will either love or love to hate.

Life and love are pretty damned special, but neither is always perfect. Life can be painful, and real love hard to find. Brandon's fiction is an exploration of the (sometimes) arduous search for the happiness we all desire.

BRANDON SHIRE was chosen as a Top Read in 2011, Best in LGBTQ Fiction for 2011 & 2012, and garnered several Honorable Mentions and a Rainbow Award for Best Gay Contemporary Fiction.

This serial is an unparalleled tour de force, testosterone laden, legal/industrial espionage, erotic thriller so totally unlike anything I've ever read!

I can feel the power, hubris, and desire for control of these characters, accented with an extreme thirst for revenge, coming right off the pages at me, grabbing me by throat and not letting go, until I'm anxiously, expectantly, turning each page wanting to see where they're going, what they're doing and how it's all unraveling for them.

The sheer darkness of an unseen hand somehow controlling a final outcome overshadows everything, to the point that I want to scream at them, slap them silly and yell at them. But it's so delicious to let it unfold under the master hand of Mr. Shire that I'm completely spellbound.

The cast of supporting characters is fantastic and there are dark horses in these characters that I'm dying to know how they fit into this puzzle. Larry and his husband Richard; Cheryl, Sid's assistant; Mark Wessman; Lori!!!. And then there's Drake and Sweeny! What a fantastic story those two have to tell!

I was completely blown away when Jack and Sid finally have their moment. It was so much what I expected, and yet so, so much more. To have it come to fruition in such an explosive manner with Jack taking complete, total control of the situation and have Sid so demeaned, as he demeans his rent-boys, was freakin' ROCKIN', and to also have the poetic justice of having Sid being watched as he was controlled in the same way Jack was made to watch the debauched scene with Raja... well, that was brilliant!

Where is this going? I don't know. What I do know is that I'm on this ride until it enters the station and the lap bars come up and I will sorely regret an ending. These are characters that will definitely stay with me and that I will compare others to.

Everything feels real. Everything is, frankly, jacked up. Expectations are falsely portrayed and just as falsely met. To say things are complicated? Fuggedaboutit, we're so far beyond that now.

We learn more about the pasts of both Jack and Sid in this episode. We also learn the history behind some of people in their lives. We also get glimpses of how alike they really are. Now, if only all those complications and histories would take a hike, maybe they'd be able to see that for themselves.

The mystery keeps unraveling while still maintaining such a tight hold on the story, revealing as many secrets as questions asked. I love that. Give me answers but then ask me more questions, never letting up.

That's actually a great way to describe this episode and the series as a whole: it never lets up. Ever. The tension and sexiness, the constant uncertainty about who's who and why they're there, and the ever changing role of who's the "bad" guy and who's the "good" guy.

    Oh, and this is hot.

Once again, Shire's smooth writing, fantastic structure and pace, and realistic dialogue all lead to a delectable reading experience.

Oh oh oh!! One of my fave cameos ever. A brilliant literary easter egg!!

Love me some Brandon Shire! I have read every book this man has published and he never fails to grab me and take me hostage until the the last sentence. This dude can WRITE. What a pleasure to read his words.

Sid gets taught a few lessons in this one...and the lessons are served up in style. Poor Sid (yeah, right.). I wonder...is he walking with a limp after the last one?

If you like solid writing, great characters and HOT scenes, go immediately and get this serialized series, but don't stop there. You seriously need to read everything the guy has out there. Some will break your heart, some will make you pant, and all of them will have your complete attention. His Listening to Dust remains on my top 5 all time reads. I'm still heart-broken.

Well, well, well this is building momentum like a runaway freight train, but in a good way. This time the characters and the reader are free falling with no idea where the landing will be.

Sid's raison d'etre is revealed. It's chilling and sad, but it still did not make me like him. However, I admire him, but from a far like I would a shark.

This story is very complex, but that is just the way I like it. Now I am hoping for Jack's reveals, as well as the rest of his crew. Oh, just my take on Larry, he is the snake in the grass that I would not like meet.

love where the series is going, but this one fell a little flat for me. As a whole the complete series will be a great read. I love a good espionage novel especially with all the intrigue and hotness. Brandon does a great job with this roller-coaster ride. Oh, and HUNTER...Sweet!

I'm just not sure I can only read this one-at-a-time :(

Part 4 is great because it has a lot of scenes with Sid and Jack and you learn a lot about Sid's background. The scenes at dojo and afterward at the hotel are excellent. These two are a hot mess.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous stuff.....

Holy S**t, this series just gets better and better. We meet an old friend from the author's Afflicted series, and yes, he's still sooo hot!! There are shenanigans afoot at Sid's office, and no, I didn't see it coming, but trust me, Sid aka ******* (nope, not telling, read the damn instalment, and you find out WHO Sid really is, WHERE he's from, WHAT he's done AND his sexual preferences, hehe!!) DEFINITELY needs to watch his back now on 2 fronts, oh and as for tricky Dicky, Larry's hubby and Larry himself, well they're not as clueless or as innocent as they seem......

I have to admit to being completely wrapped up in this series. The writing is, well...let's just say, it's Brandon Shire and we all know how GOOD his writing is, you only have to look at his other stories to see the quality.

I never knew (or perhaps I did but chose not to acknowledge it) how bloody devious some lawyers are...yes, I know we can't tar them all with the same brush, but COME ON!! It's mind boggling!! The lawyers in this serialisation have no morals, no scruples and are as corrupt as hell, and yes, that includes the lady lawyers too. They're like sharks or vultures, take your pick...as soon as they scent blood, they're after their prey, and no-one and nothing stands in their way, they ruin people's lives so casually with a wave of a hand, or the stroke of a pen. They're on a par with sex offenders and murderers as far as I'm concerned, the lowest of the low. Despicable!!

Right, onto the juicy stuff **fans self**, he writes a really hot sex scene does Mr Shire **nods in agreement**. There MAY have been some sex in this one, and it may have involved Sid, Jack and a high-priced prostitute named Frank, and I felt really sorry for Frank, who was being angrily pounded into the mattress by Sid when Jack walks in, and things change around pretty quickly. One of my fave sayings in this instalment was Jack to Frank "He (Sid) thinks the only way he can get to the top, is to be a top. But he's forgotten how much pleasure he had on the bottom."...and yes, I'll leave you to work that one out. Oh, and this instalment ended with a certain someone being kidnapped...**bites fingernails nervously** 5 Uneasy and Fearful stars from me.
