Wicked Tongue Kindle Edition
A typical night of partying leaves Daniel Blair with far more than a hangover. His myriad of strange symptoms defies explanation, as does the blood on his pillow. And something is very wrong with his tongue.
Afraid he contracted a terrible unknown illness, Daniel seeks help. But his frantic search for answers takes a horrifying turn. Struck by violent impulses, and compelled by a cryptic voice in his head, he commits unspeakable acts. He struggles to fight back, but something is growing inside him, changing him, breaking his mind.
As his life spirals out of control, Daniel discovers the “invasion” of his body has a purpose more insidious and far-reaching than he could ever imagine. One Earth isn’t ready for—and might not survive.
Wicked Tongue blends horror, science fiction, and frightening elements of our current reality into a cautionary tale for modern times. It is a reminder that blissful ignorance rarely ends well. And life, as we know it, can change in an instant.

About the author

Born in a small Kansas town on the Missouri river, C.L. Schneider grew up in a house of avid readers and overflowing bookshelves. Her first full-length novel took shape while she was still in high school, on a typewriter in her parent's living room. Though Schneider has been writing all of her life, Magic-Price (the award-winning first installment in The Crown of Stones Trilogy) was her first published novel.
While her main focus is epic and urban fantasy for adults, she dabbles in all areas of speculative fiction. Her stories tend to be dark, conflict-laden tales full of magic and mystery, action and intrigue, antiheroes and villains, monsters and myths, friendship, love, loss and sacrifice—with enough twists to give you whiplash.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2025Wicked tongue is one of the best horror novels on the platform. It's fast paced, that will keep you turning pages. The idea of parasitic aliens invading our world is terrifying in its realistic setting. The talent of the author is as clear as her plot. I highly recommend it!

Ok first of all don’t let the cover of this book put you off reading it. This book is well written you will not be disappointed with the story line. I will admit I did think twice about reading it at night time and it wasn’t that bad lol.
So we have Daniel Blair who after a night out with friends has him feeling worse than bad the following morning. Daniel could not remember the last time he had drank so much that it seemed enough to cause some sort of black out. He questioned whether the drink his friend had bought him was a double. But surely that one drink that was bought was not enough to make him feel the way he is currently feeling. He noticed that his face was hurting, but this was mainly in his mouth, he also noticed that he had a terrible taste in his mouth that tasted absolutely vile. The vile tasting liquid seemed to be filling his mouth at a rate faster than he could get rid of it. Daniel noticed that the small of mounts of the fluid that went down hurt as it passed over his throat. Daniel also noticed that his tongue was getting in the way and his mouth felt quite swollen. Daniel could not help but wince when he moved his tongue. Daniel was horrified when he lifted his pillow and noticed something red had soaked through to his mattress. What on earth was happening to him? Anyway Daniel decided he needed medical treatment for what ever this was that was happening to him. When he arrived at the hospital he was later to hear a comment from staff about that’s another one. Well exactly how many had there been before him? Daniel still in pain was wondering what was going on with him. With what ever is happening to Daniel would he be able to survive it?
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2024Wicked Tongue, by C. L. Schneider is a combination of "Outbreak" and "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", with a relevant and horrific allegorical outcome. I am not drawn to this kind of story, but Ms. Schneider's storytelling compels readers to pick up this different approach to horror. I wasn't able to read this straight through, the images leaving me to consider the possibilities. From the beginning, this book is fitting for a Halloween release, which it was. And you can read it anytime and still be scared. I have enjoyed her stories and although this one takes a macabre turn, I recommend picking it up and fastening your seatbelt. You'll be glad you did.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2024Daniel Blair – after a night of partying with friends, he woke up feeling extremely hungry and bleeding from his mouth. He couldn’t find a source for the bleeding, but his throat hurt worse than ever, and his tongue was so swollen it was filling up his throat. He couldn’t stop bleeding or slobbering. When he went to the emergency room, he found out he wasn’t the only one with these symptoms.
He couldn’t understand why it felt like his tongue was taking over his body and thoughts. He was so hungry and normal food wasn’t what he was craving. He goes to his best friend’s house for help but finds his sister, Chloe. She tries to help him until she realizes he is not himself. Caleb, his best friend, is known to believe conspiracy theories so he has many ideas of what could be wrong with his friend. Now they just must figure out how to help Daniel.
This book kept me on the edge of my seat. Does Daniel succumb to his inner monster or does he maintain his humanity? Will he be able to get help in time? This is a really good book for horror, sci-fi readers.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2024My lord. The talent of C.L. Schneider truly knows no bounds. I first discovered this incredible author over two years ago when I came across Necrosis, and I always come back for more and read everything I can of hers. Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, she has mastered them all. I don’t wanna give away anything but lord this one was like the worst fear of going out for a drink and waking up the next morning.
Daniel was just an average everyday guy, went out with his friends one night for a drink but the sun brought too many questions to answer. No memory of the night before, oddly swollen and painful tongue and medical help is no help just more odd remarks about others and no answers.
What’s happening to Daniel? Will he survive the “invasion”? I don’t know what’s gonna happen next or if there is a next for this world and its characters. But same as when I finished Necrosis, I will be keeping an eye out just in case. It’s truly difficult to decide which I love more C.L.’s Horror/Sci-Fi books or her fantasy books but either way I am a lifelong fan two years in and so many more to come.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 4, 2024This book was ok for me. I had a hard time staying engaged in the plot. I liked some of the movement pertaining to the "invasion" occurring within himself but overall it was not my cup of tea. Definitely has creative points and imagery throughout. If you like books then dip more towards the horror end, this would be a good one for you. Definitely has unsettling features woven into the plot.

I really enjoyed reading a fresh take on the classic alien invasion story.
C L Schneider has a great voice and her characterisations are on point throughout. I will definitely be checking out some of her other works.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great addition to your spooky season TBR list!
4 – 4.5 Stars
Wicked Tongue by C.L. Schneider is a little different from what I have come to expect from her- but still comes with all the intensity, intrigue, and descriptive details that all her other work possesses.
This is a superb, chilling, and creepy little sci-fi horror story that had me squirming in my seat. This is an alien invasion of the very disturbing kind- which definitely made me sit up and take notice!
I love a book that makes me ‘feel’- and I was quite unsettled through many parts of this book- because Ms. Schneider’s descriptive writing style meant that I could picture everything so very vividly.
The story finishes with room for more to come, so it will be interesting to see whether we there will be more instalments after this, as I for one am definitely on board for more of this more macabre side of Ms. Schneider.
Happy Reading…
Thank you, C.L. Schneider!
