The Alpha's Mage (Wild Magic Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,068 ratings

Magic. Without it, Knox’s pack will die. The only way to get it? Steal it. Steal him. A wolf mage.

The slow decay of magic is destroying Samhain Pack bit by bit. Down to their last ailing mage, Knox snatches a mage from a rival pack. Better to be a pack with enemies than a dead pack. But when Lorcan is foisted upon him, Knox refuses to take the mage as a mate. Until their alpha leader drags up an old pack law to punish the wayward mage, and Knox finds it isn’t so easy to walk away.

Being a wolf mage is a curse. It’s taken everything from Lorcan—his family, his home, and his magic. Now he’s been taken by another pack, with a whole new set of rules. He has no intention of sticking around, especially when they plan to bond him to one of their alphas. Running from wolves comes naturally to him, only Knox proves hard to run from.

The Alpha’s Mage is a paranormal romance featuring a stubborn wolf, a distrustful druid, and a pack in dire need of luck. It’s the first book of the Wild Magic series, which should be read in order. It contains mature and somewhat dark themes but does not contain mpreg.

Claire Cullen is an author and aspiring baker. Since she was a toddler, she has loved making up stories. Getting them down on paper proved a challenge in the early years when her preferred medium was finger puppets. She moved on to pen and paper, and later to keyboards, and hasn't looked back since, except for occasional bouts of nostalgia.

Claire loves to write strong, Alpha males with protective streaks a mile wide and counterpoint them with love interests with the inner strength to survive the trials life has thrown at them.

Most of all, Claire loves a happy ever after (but she'll be content with a happy for now).

    I LOVVVEEEDDDDD Knox and Lorcan's story!!! ♥️♥️
Lorcan stole my heart from the jump 💜 Knox took a little bit for me to warm up to, but we got there eventually.
LOVED these two. Loved this pack, and I can't wait to see what's next for them.

This book was short and sweet. The magic system was exceedingly interesting and a new take on werewolf mage pairings. The two main characters have chemistry and are very cute together. The side characters are interesting as well, especially the other alphas, which is good because they most likely will be getting their own books.

This is a fantastic start of a new series. I love the unique world; the magical relationship between wolves and the mages bearing the moon mark. Here the bond between wolf & mage includes sexual energy as well as magical energy. The characters come alive. You will feel for them and with them. Knox's pack is desperate. Their mage is dying.
Solution? Steal a mage. Lorcan has been stolen and sold before. But he realizes he has a true bond with Knox. Despite their efforts to keep the boundary intact & the pack safe, Lorcan is stolen & sold again. Knox will stop at nothing to get him back. Their journey is more a HFN than HEA. There is still a threat out there that must be dealt with before the pack will be truly safe. The story continues. I can't wait for book two! You have got to get this book! Now!
This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.

I’m not sure how I feel about this series yet. Some aspects are interesting, but most of the characters leave something to be desired. The head alpha, Gage, I found to be especially dislikable.

This is sort of fated mates light. People can mate with whoever they want (usually by force, in the case of mages) and no one really seems to value or respect (fated) mate bonds I put fated in parentheses, because it’s unclear whether they’re actually fated or just more compatible than other potential mates.

There wasn’t enough magic in this book, so hopefully future books in the series introduce mages who actually know how to do magic. There are plenty of inconsistencies, and a bizarre dislike for this book that I almost hesitate to mention is the MC’s name. I HATED the name Lorcan. It sounds like a medication. I kept thinking about Narcan or the Lorax. The name felt clunky and it weirdly took me out of the story because I disliked it so much and just kept thinking of prescription drug commercials. It’s a weird thing to complain about, but everyone else in the book had a normal name. Well, maybe not normal or common, but at least they were actual names.

Claire Cullen is pretty much a one-click read for me. Every time she comes out with a new book, I am right there on release day to get a copy. (Except when I’m lucky enough to get an ARC like I did for this book! I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.)

This is the first book in a new series featuring shifters, but not mpreg, which is nice because we can offer it to people who just don’t get the mpreg thing, get them hooked on her writing, and then drop them in the deep end of the mpreg pool! It features an interesting magic system and a nice “reluctant mates” romance. Go for it!

Even though the plot is predictable, Cullen always makes it just different enough to make it new. Cullens books are my go to fireside read, fun, quick, and full of loveable characters without needless drama. This one was a fun new twist on the werewolf/mage tale, I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!

Another great start to a new series. Mixing the world of wolves and magic, it was intriguing and well paced. I enjoyed Knox’s pack’s back story, and how desperate the pack is, struggling for survival. It was unique and makes me ready to dive into book two pronto.

This was a well written story that I really enjoyed. The world is very well developed and I enjoyed having it unfolded slowly. There is no insta anything in this book. The pairing is good. I'm not sure why the intimate scenes didn't sizzle more because I believed in the couple. They were a great match and have to work through some believable angst. I'll definitely read more in this series.

Knox abducts Lorcan, the mage of the Samhain pack. Lorcan is understandably resentful and angry, lots for the reader to unpick. It turns out that Lorcan was actually kidnapped by the Samhain pack and he is fairly traumatised by all the various violations of his freedom and to his apparent value as a mage. It is a very interesting and different interpretation of wolf packs entwined with mages or as it turns out, a different type of magic user.

The evolution of their relationship is slow and realistic, in turn anxious, fury and lustful. An incredibly enjoyable and varied tale as it develops into a genuine romance with credible characters and emotions. I love Claire Cullen's books, the realities of shifter life, mixed with poignancy and realistic and lively communities.

The pack magic is fading, and Know has to do something. He finds a mage in a pack next to their territory and kidnaps him. Knox's Alpha gives them two weeks to mate but either one wants to. As they learn more about each other, everything changes. When of the pack is taken, Lorcan must go to the Warren family of Mages, a family that sold him before . Knox goes to find him but he has been taken to another pack and will fight to the death to get him back.

A beautiful start of a story worth investing time in. The slow build up of a beautiful relationship which solely depends upon mutual affection and co-dependency was the heart of the plot. Looking forward to read the next part.
