The Wolf's Secret (Wild Magic Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 711 ratings

When is a wolf not just a wolf? When he has magic running through his veins.

Fleeing Samhain Pack to protect them from his berserker nature, Barrett is alone in the wilds—and lost to himself. Until he tracks a most interesting prey and finds himself face to face with a mage. But Evan is not just a mage, he’s something their pack desperately needs—a healer.

Evan is always a healer first and a mage second, no matter how he wishes otherwise. Searching for his missing cousin, taken by sorcerers, he’s lost and running out of hope. And then he meets a feral wolf who is far more than he seems. Others would run from a berserker, but Evan has never been one to run from trouble.

Barrett’s elation at bringing a healer home to his pack is dashed when he learns what Evan demands in exchange for helping them. Can he confront his greatest fear—his own wolf? And will the bond of a mage help him do it and maybe even lead to something more?

The Wolf’s Secret is a m/m paranormal romance featuring an alpha and mage who bring out the best in each other and a pack who’s found its heart. It’s the fourth book in the Wild Magic series, which should be read in order. It contains mature and somewhat dark themes but is not an mpreg story.

Claire Cullen is an author and aspiring baker. Since she was a toddler, she has loved making up stories. Getting them down on paper proved a challenge in the early years when her preferred medium was finger puppets. She moved on to pen and paper, and later to keyboards, and hasn't looked back since, except for occasional bouts of nostalgia.

Claire loves to write strong, Alpha males with protective streaks a mile wide and counterpoint them with love interests with the inner strength to survive the trials life has thrown at them.

Most of all, Claire loves a happy ever after (but she'll be content with a happy for now).

This is my favorite out of the four books that I’ve read. Barrett and Evan also get my vote for the best alpha-mage pairing. Barrett is the sweetest alpha while the others, Knox, Gage, and Declan, are not exactly likable. I haven’t read Ronan’s book yet so can’t say much about him. Evan is also the most likable mage, sassy and confident. The storyline is intriguing and it’s coming to an end in the next book. Love this author and this is a must read!

Better than the previous books and these characters fit together well as mates. My biggest pet peeve is still Gage and his decisions. Even after all this pack has been through and every challenge that was only solved by having a fully bonded couple, they inanely continue to run headfirst into danger with the decision to NOT be bonded because they just figure it’s not a big deal and they’ll do it later.

Of course we readers know it’s a big deal and every single time something goes horribly wrong and all the magic people are shocked like “huh. Guess we should have bonded sooner. Then nothing bad would have happened. Oops.” Like why do none of them trust the bond still after everything? Annoying.

This is a paranormal shifter/magic romance without mpreg, the fourth book in the series and should be read in order to understand the context. This is a unique take on shifters but the author keeps their mythology consistent across atleast the first 4 books so far.

This book continues on from book three, a few months later Barrett as a Berserker is mindlessly stuck in his wolf form, almost completely feral until he meets Evan, who is literally walking around in the dark! The complex relationship between these two is fascinating. There is fantastic world-building, the characters are beautifully flawed and endearing. I have one book left to read in this series, but I’m reallly hoping the author does a spin-off series!

Many shifter/fantasy series devote each book to a single character in the group finding his soul mate. Claire Cullen does this, but it is all part of a larger story plot. She weaves plot details, builds character, and create a action that is satisfying in each book. Book 4, however, makes the previous three necessary background. Now is the start of the true story. I anxiously await further book.

    3 stars!

I like the dynamics between these MCs. This story was really intriguing and I can't wait to see how the overarching storyline ends.

I like that a lot of things were wrapping up on this story but I also found many things to be unlikely successful and many details were glossed over. Don't think too hard about how they make the great escape because it all falls apart if you start thinking.

Overall, it was pretty interesting and I am happy the overall storyline is wrapping up.

This is a great relief to me. Cullen has has come back with a strong character who is willing to carry on with the pack. Not your everyday healer , as we might expect but a strong battling independent who is willing to fight for everything he deserves. Evan as healer. Evan as protector. Evan a help mate. We get to find out about the mysterious, evaded Barrett. And, I have to admit Cullen has given Jasper his redeeming episode, as well as Declan.

Rating reflects my mind about : sex is a little long and main plot a little lit on build-up/ explanation. The sex is good, don't get me wrong, but not at the expense of a darned good storyline. Cullen may even save Jasper/Declan though it's not really necessary a this juncture.

Barrett is a berserker wolf. Evan is a healer mage. This is the fourth book in this series and it moves the storyline forward. The Warren's are beat for now. The pack is getting stronger but the magic is still unbalanced. The Warren's plan to be the dominant species and steal everyone's magic is still an issue. Looking forward to the next installment.

I am enjoying this series so much, and The Wolf's Secret is my favourite so far.

Barrett and Evan's characters are great together, and it was lovely to see Barrett get the HEA he thought he'd be denied.

The tension is ramping up and I can't wait for the next book.

Evan found wondering in the forest to help to save his cousin, that the Wardens have taken. Barrett has not shifted back to human since the attack. He is in berserker form and he finds Evan. Evan talks to Barrett and gets him to change back to human. Evan is a healer and no one has ever help him. Together and with the pack, maybe they can save his cousin. Awesome read. The characters are outstanding and blend together within the books.

Finally a book I have nothing to b*tch about. This is the best book in the series so far, and I'm really glad because I hated the previous one. As I expected, Barrett is one of the best characters in the series, and thankfully so is Evan. Also, I'm happy that they weren't both in denial about their link as mates. I don't think this is the last time we see Bass, so I'm curious about how he will reappear in the next book (which I'm guessing will be about Ronan and Connor, even though Connor doesn't seem to be a mage)
