Wrecked Palace (The Wrecked Series Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 6,246 ratings

One night was all it took for everything to change.
From college student to guardian in a single breath.
My siblings became my world.

No time for date nights or romantic dreams.
I traded quiet weekends for sleepless nights.
Giving my all to make sure they were cared for.

But Griffin had a brokenness that called to me—one that mirrored my own.
Gruff and just a little bit reckless.
He was the last thing I needed. But everything I wanted.

Only someone isn’t happy about this new life I’m building.
Deciding to set fire to everything I hold close.
And when the smoke clears, there might be only ashes left behind…

Perfect and Beautiful Friends-to-Lovers! Love this series!

Perfect and Beautiful Friends-to-Lovers! Love this series!
⚓Friends-to-Lovers ⚓Small-Town ⚓Romantic Suspense . “That’s your rainbow. So you’re a part of our family, and you never have to leave.” . Review: This is book 3 in the Wrecked series. In Reckless Memories Griffin came to Ford's rescue. In Perfect Wreckage he punched a guy for talking rudely to Caelyn and I instantly knew I wanted to know him and for them to get together. So I was beyond excited to find out this was their story! Once again, Catherine hooked me with the Prologue and I didn't want to stop! . Caelyn has been through so much with no one to put her first. Having to leave college to care for her 3 younger siblings was not what she had planned, but there's nothing she wouldn't do for them. . Griffin is a grumpy, quiet mystery to everyone in town. He lost his whole family young, but the rumors that circulate couldn't be further from the truth. . Griffin comes into the General Store often to get his groceries and to get lunches from Caelyn. Otherwise he keeps to himself restoring his families old farmhouse. After overhearing some things at the store one day, he knows he needs to help Caelyn. I quickly fell for Griffin. This broody man has such a heart of gold. The connection and relationship he built with Caelyn's siblings Will, Ava and especially Mia melted my heart. “I want to stay with my giant. He’ll protect us.” This man who doesn't trust due to his past, found what has been missing all his life. This was a slow build, but when you're building a friendship and caring for 3 kids, it's expected. They had to come first, so it was absolutely perfect. These two might be my new favorite couple in this series. I love that the secondary characters are still so involved in their friends books. It helps me with missing them. I listened to the audiobook by Joe Arden and Ava Erickson. Ava is my favorite female narrator so I knew this one would be great. Ava was so perfect as sweet, loving and self sacrificing Caelyn. Joe was a great protective and loving Griffin. Please don't miss out on this series!

    Overall Grade: 5.5 ⭐️

“You made this wrecked palace a home.”

I knew from Catherine Cowles’s earlier books, Reckless Memories and Perfect Wreckage, that Wrecked Palace, her newest book, would be my favorite thus far in this series of standalones. I knew that Griffin “Griff” would steal my heart in his sullen, mysterious way. I knew that Caelyn’s story as guardian and caretaker of her siblings would steal another portion of my heart, but until I jumped into the beauty of Wrecked Palace, I didn’t really know. At each turn of the page, Catherine Cowles reminded me why I will always buy and read her stories. Her ability to invest you into her broken characters is her superpower, and it compels you to pick up her book and read to the very last page.

I won’t speak to the plotline of Cowles’s newest romance. I wish for you, potential reader, to read it on your own. It has too many secrets. Even more, the story is so beautifully drawn at Cowles’s hand that I simply want you to experience it on your own. What I will tell you are the reasons for its beauty.

Firstly, you should know that unlike her other books this is a seriously slow burn. There are definitely sparks, but that isn’t the focus of this book. Instead, this book is about growth, about finding the salve to the broken parts of one’s soul. It’s about a saving grace to pull you through difficult times. Instead of drawing you into the bedroom, Cowles deftly draws you deeper into Griffin and Caelyn’s lives, and it’s a masterpiece.

Secondly, Wrecked Palace is much like her other stories and other series which means more romantic suspense. There is something to be solved in this story, and Cowles guides you carefully through the story to a resolution that is perfect in its rendering.

Thirdly, Griffin and Caelyn are magical together. These are my favorite types of characters: a brooding, silent broken hero, and a heroine who is the light to his dark even in her own brokenness. I know this is written often enough in romance, but Cowles does a superb job with this couple. I hated to leave their story because Cowles invested me so deeply in them that it was difficult to say goodbye. There is simply too much to love about them and their friends who, once again, remind us of the idea of a crafted, constructed family. That element is one more reason why this book is my current favorite of 2021.

Lastly, Catherine Cowles’s style is enigmatic. There is a quietude to her careful storytelling, and it juxtaposes against the violence of her story. Over and over again in her books, her words whisper across the page, crafting beautifully romantic scenes between her characters, and it contracts against the mysteries that need solving as characters’ lives sit in danger. That is one of the qualities of her storytelling that keeps me coming back for more.

So, what does it mean to love and be loved? Is man meant to live a life alone? Can two broken people find completion in each other, in a family of friends constructed out of love and respect, not blood? Those are the questions that pervade Catherine Cowles’s Wrecked Palace. This book destroyed and reconstructed a part of my heart. Yes, the story title is Wrecked Palace, but this book is a reminder that something that is wrecked doesn’t have to remain that way. Instead with love, care, and attention, out of the ashes can come a palace of beauty. Run and read this story.

(audiobook+ebook) It started with a bang and never calmed down after that. Well, not exactly. There were a lot of more domestic and intimate moments–without all the suspense and tension of the beginning–but they were equally intense. Which is up to par with two intense characters.

Griffin had been introduced as the grumpy type in the previous books, but he’s actually a giant with a sensible heart and a strong protective streak. Faced with Caelyn and her siblings in danger, he even goes full mama bear. But his nature forces him to also help the little family in other ways–offering Caelyn a more profitable job, encouraging Will to pursue his passions, letting Mia exert her imagination. Friend, big brother, fatherly figure, boyfriend/husband/lover, he successively and sometimes simultaneously holds all those positions inside the O’Connor family. After learning his past and how he became so reserved, it’s a pleasure to see him open himself.

Caelyn lives for her siblings. Feeling guilty for leaving them with their parents when she knew they couldn’t care less, and after they actually abandoned them, she’s decided to give up all selfish pursuit and sacrifice herself for her three brother and sisters. So when Griffin takes care of her first, then takes the whole family under his wing, she finally can let go and dream again. She isn’t alone anymore.

What I loved the most was that even with a mountain of muscles by her side, she doesn’t need someone to save her–though Griffin kind of does. She needs help, sure, but mostly support, and not someone to take over her life. So even though it creates some misunderstanding and conflicts, I actually loved that she’s strong like that.

I have mixed feelings about the suspense part of the story. It was woven expertly with the characters’ more personal stories, with some red herrings, and the family aspect–with Caelyn’s parents being drug dealers and all–was interesting, but I felt the actual resolution lacked the bang I mentioned at the beginning.

The narration? Perfect. The kids, by both narrators, had distinct and cute voices, and of course, they gave life to Caelyn and Griffin in the most beautiful way. A time well spent.

I adored each member of this family and loved how the story came together.

Caelyn was just the gentle hearted soul that Griffin needed to mend his soul and along with her adorable family, they brought such joy and happiness in these pages

A low burn that set fire to the pages one out reluctant duo had finally moved into some kind of relationship, this didn’t stop Griffin exerting his alpha demands of safety on Caelyn when danger landed at the families feet

A well written mystery that unfolds wonderfully

6 years ago, Caelyn O’Connor was in college when she got a call that changed everything, her parents hadn’t been home in days and her 3 young siblings (Will, Mia and Ava) had been left alone. Determined to ensure they are safe and cared for she gets custody. Two jobs help her just about keep their head above water. Now working as manager at the General Store in town, her cooking is popular with those who come in, something that delights her even as she wishes she could get some culinary training, but the kids needs come before what she wants.

Griffin Lockwood lost everyone he loved when he was young, the media attention and betrayal from those close to him had him running, locking himself away from everyone. Having returned to Anchor Island to the estate that was his family's safe haven/retreat he keeps to himself renovating the estate. One of the only times he leaves the property is to visit the General Store to see Caelyn. He barely speaks to her but he can't help but come to see her. When he realises she needs help he is unable to keep away and in doing so finds himself welcomed into a family that loves fiercely and gives him something he had thought he had forever lost.

When danger comes calling Griffin is determined to protect the woman and children who have come to mean so much to him.

A sweet slow burn romance. The MCs feel something for each other from the get go but it takes time for things to develop. I loved seeing the family interactions and Griffin with Caelyn's siblings.

I really liked the kids in this, especially Mia who I loved as a character.

The tone of this book is gentle.

Potential Trigger: Reference to child neglect, drug addiction, death of family and the consequent trauma.

6 a very good book with an interesting and engaging storyline. A woman with the custody of her siblings, a man who had lost his family, danger from the past, good friends, all lead to love. The characters were well written and developed. Characters from previous books in the series were all in this book, which was very nice. I look forward to reading more in this series.
