About the Author
Throughout her career, the ability to write powerfully was central to her success. Carla wrote products for the White House, Congress, ambassadors, and generals. She composed hundreds of personnel reviews, award nominations and other competitive packages, talking points, and letters for executive signature.
As a lieutenant colonel, Carla transformed her 480-person unit from the most losing in state-wide professional competitions into the one to beat. How? She developed her writing methodology, composed a handbook, and taught her troops to write. So successful was her program, she taught thousands of Air Force members for the next 15 years. She now teaches workshops to clients that include government agencies, corporations, private businesses, NGOs, and academia.
The second edition of "Write to Influence!" incorporates material from her highly acclaimed workshops. From powerful writing to banish bureaucratic blather (in the workplace) to composing resumes, input for performance reviews, grant submissions, and essays for college applications ... she covers it all.
Carla's battle cries are twofold: "Powerful writing changes lives!" and "Powerful writing is the lifeblood of effective organizations!"
Her assignments included Hawaii; Washington, D.C.; Germany; Korea; Turkey; and Bulgaria, where she served as the as the defense and air attaché.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 11, 2022I heard Carla's interview on Amy Dix's podcast, "Unlocking Happiness," and was mesmerized by her approach to writing. I purchased "Write to Influence!" and changed my writing. My success rate in winning contract bids improved dramatically! I recommend this book to every person I come across. In collaborating with 20+ podcasters, a handful of filmmakers, musicians, and songwriters, I've become increasingly aware of the amount of copy needed to make all of these things happen, as well as the importance of quality. Carla, thank you for writing this book, sharing your wisdom, and your service. - Josh

As an attorney, adjunct professor, and resume writer, I understand the importance of producing quality work. Whether you are a skilled writer, or struggle to write effectively, this book contains extremely helpful tips and strategies that can take your skills to the next level. Ret. Colonel Bass has a gift for communicating to get results and she shares her knowledge in a fun and engaging way. I highly recommend this valuable resource.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 19, 2020Carla Bass has written the essential guide to effective writing. It originated in military intelligence requirements to improve recognition of highly qualified individuals for awards, and has been broadened to include business, government, proposal, grant and university applications. It should be taught in universities--and it is. Carla has teamed with the National Intelligence University to teach workshops for faculty, staff and students. Lessons learned from these workshops has been included in the Second Edition of Writing to Influence. Personally, it is good for everything including writer's block, and elevator speeches!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2021Certainly appreciate how powerful writing can open doors to opportunity -- or lack thereof can slam them -- from both a government perspective (securing budgets, communicating with Congress, etc.) and as organizations that rely on grants to achieve their goals.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2022The book is written by a military lieutenant but has many applications. Its focus is on influencing through writing. The chapters present MANY examples of before and after as well as extremely thorough recommendations. I highly recommend the exercises. I will be revisiting often. Forgive me but I wrote this review making some of the errors specified in the book. Can you find them?

1.0 out of 5 stars I bought the Kindle (i.e. digital format), but it can't search for words!
This review is not about the content of the book since I haven't started yet. I bought the digital copy of the book (Kindle format), but it says 'it can't search for words.' It's unacceptable/unbelievable.
