Editorial Reviews
Review
"Alison Morton is the energetic and well-connected writer of a successful, ever-expanding series of alternate history thrillers and also of non-fiction, so advice on writing from her is always going to be worth reading. Her discipline as a writer is evidenced by her ability to encapsulate these nuggets of advice into neat and well-formed articles of just 500 words.
This little volume is a handy source of inspiration and motivation not only for the new writer, as the subtitle suggests, but also a tonic for writers at any stage who might be flagging or lapsing into bad habits.
As an established author myself, but always conscious of having more to learn and needing constant head-patting to keep me motivated, I thought this little book was a tonic and a pick-me-up that would benefit any writer. I'll be keeping it on my Kindle to dip into now and again whenever I feel the need of a cheerleader."

This little volume is a handy source of inspiration and motivation not only for the new writer, as the subtitle suggests, but also a tonic for writers at any stage who might be flagging or lapsing into bad habits. The book repurposes a series of succinct articles previously published in a local magazine, which is why a few of the pieces have local references or sound as if targeted at a particular parochial audience, but they're none the less for that.
As an established author myself, but always conscious of having more to learn and needing constant head-patting to keep me motivated, I thought this little book was a tonic and a pick-me-up that would benefit any writer. I'll be keeping it on my Kindle to dip into now and again whenever I feel the need of a cheerleader.
Disclosure: I know the author personally because we have the same publisher (SilverWood Books), we both belong to the Alliance of Independent Authors, and we have both been guest speakers at the Romantic Novelists' Association annual conference.

5.0 out of 5 stars A no nonsense walk through the basics.
I'm a seasoned writer, but it was good to be reminded of the most important aspects of writing which often become obscured by those more interested in promoting their own success than helping others. An excellent guide for newbies.
