In this stellar, impactful book, a young teen navigates the devastating chaos of the Pearl Harbor attack during WWII. A Notable Children's Release from multi-award-winning Ellie Crowe and Scott Peters.

15-year-old Billy embarks on a perilous journey to save his father during the World War Two assault on Pearl Harbor. Initially dismissed as a mere drill, the reality quickly dawns on Billy and his family. The island of Oahu is under attack! Worse, his dad is down there on the USS Oklahoma, laid up in the sick bay with two broken legs. He'll never be able to escape on his own. But what can Billy do? He's just a kid and he's way out of his element. Still, he has to act. Braving a hail of gunfire, Billy navigates his way to the harbor, boards a rescue vessel, and daringly ascends the rapidly sinking Oklahoma battleship. In the chaos below deck, he finds his injured father, setting the stage for a dramatic rescue.

Bought this for my 8 year old grandson. My son's family is stationed at Pearl Harbor and my grandson has really gotten into the stories relating to WWII. He said the book was really good.

I've bought the "I Survived" series before, but then discovered the "I Escaped" with this one on Pearl Harbor. Nephews (teen and 9 yo) both love them! The teen is more of a history buff and loves adventure, as does the 9 yo, so this book was a big hit. Great for providing kids with perspective on how others have lived, a different look at history, and fun adventure.

You are immediately plunged into the chaos of that Day in Infamy. You experience the exciting, and horrifying danger of the attack on Pearl Harbor through the eyes and experience of a young man whom is determined to get to his dad who is in danger on a Pearl Harbor battleship. I was so engaged in the story I read straight through without stopping. Great, fast moving story that grabs your attention and keeps it to the end. Perfect for readers young and old.

Truly another winner in the I Escaped series. Bravo!

I know this book was written for 9-12-year-olds, but I really enjoyed reading this gripping story. Author Ellie Crowe does a fantastic job of describing the scene, so much so that I almost smelled the smoke as I was reading. The details of the story were incredible, with the amazing world-building the author wrote about. I liked the pictures that were scattered throughout the chapters, as they gave authenticity to the story. I highly recommend this book and I can't wait to read more in this series.

I got this book about escaping Pearl Harbor during WWII . It focuses on one kid who finds themselves in the middle of the attack.
Reading about that day through the main character's eyes really transported me to the past. As well as giving the background about what led up to it.

What I liked most was how regular people stepped up in huge ways when things got chaotic. There's a line that stuck with me about chaos bringing out bravery.

Even though it covered a serious historical event, this book made it engaging. I felt very connected understanding it from a kid's point of view back then.

Overall it did an excellent job of taking me there through the story. If you've got a young student interested in that time period, I'd recommend picking this one up. The storytelling really brings the history to life.
