- Reviewed in the United States on October 23, 2019Children will enjoy Slowville. There are adventures, nature to admire & friendly animals to play with.
The school is on a rooftop.
The city center has a marina, a pond, lots of flowers/trees & shops for anything 1 might want/need.
Today is a chance for Kimaya, Ben, Sanjee, Savya, Oliver, Mei & Toby (dog) to visit & learn about a Farm. Suzy(farmer) will give the tour/presentation. Mrs. Santos (teacher) will accompany them.
Next stop for the school kids a retirement home for the elderly.
Mrs. Rose ism feeding the pigeons.
Where will the school kids go next?
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great watercolor painted illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very well written children’s educational adventure story book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational adventure movie, a classroom PP presentation, or a mini TV series. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

Written and illustrated by Madly Chatterjee
As you may have guessed, this book is bilingual. Two separate stories are presented in English and French.
Slowville is an imaginary town. It is located in an urban center that contains many opportunities for walking, cycling and boating. Readers are introduced to five children who attend a rooftop school.
In the first story, the children are visiting the farm with their teacher, Mrs. Santos. Suzy, their guide, explains the care of the cows and sheep. One of the newborn calves has been orphaned. The children watch it introduced to a foster mother. They also discover what happens in an emergency.
In the second tale, Mrs. Scott, their cooking teacher, brings the children to a retirement home where they will be cooking a meal for the residents. Another unexpected event leads to an exciting day.
This book introduces its readers to a second language. It also provides examples of how children can become active participants and problem-solvers in their community. A few interactive activities encourage children to practice their language skills and a coloring page at the end encourages creativity.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2020I started with the second book ‘children of Slowville’ first, and this was so fun that I wanted to read the first one too. Well, I liked these two new stories as much as I did in the other book. What a great ecological setting of the city where these 6 friends live. For me that is the most innovative in this series of books.
The stories are nice and the illustrations just amazing.
I absolutely recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2019This is a great piece of work, well written and spiced with diversity. I love the fact that children will be able to read and learn in a new language. I love the different questions asked at the end of the story of each page
- Reviewed in the United States on December 18, 2019This is a beautiful book where the kids learn about compassion for animal and nature. It is also translated into French so if you ever want to learn French this is a good beginner’s book.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2021Great story for children. Full of adventure. It represents kindness, togetherness and helping each other. A group of friends have fun on a farm with their teacher. They learn about what happens on a farm and even get to help a couple animals. The second part of the book is just as good. Kindness and caring to a senior will teach young readers that everybody is important and should be loved no matter their age or who they are. Great illustrations. Good that it is also bilingual so children from a different culture can also enjoy and learn from this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un livre exceptionnel et abordable!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 Interesting Bilingual Stories - Kids will find themselves learning another language naturally.
I enjoyed reading this bilingual English / French book. The bright, watercolour illustrations are lovely and will appeal to young readers. The stories are set in the town of Slowville, where everyone lives in harmony with nature.
The 2 stories in this book are about a group of children who live in Slowville. The first follows the kids as they walk with their school teacher to visit the farm (and then help rescue both a calf and her mother), the second is about them cooking dinner for all the residents of the old folks’ home (with them going to hunt for one resident, then taking dinner to eat with her, as she couldn’t make it to the dining room).
Both stories were well-written and interesting, and I liked that they promoted being kind and helpful to others, as well as kindness to nature. Kids will find themselves learning French (or English) naturally as they follow these stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute bilingual story showing compassion and respect
These two stories are a great way for children to learn how to show respect for farm animals and elders. And to be observant of their environment so that they can help those in need.
I also really love that it‘s bilingual as my 12 yr. old daughter recently started French lessons in school. Although she‘s a bit old for the book‘s genre in English, she‘ll be able to learn and remember some new French vocabulary.
It’s a great book for both young children and preteen readers learning either English or French as a foreign language and to inspire children to always show compassion for all animals, human included.
