Bob was born in Edinburgh in December 1951. The first few years of Bob's life was spent travelling around the world with his family. During his first 15 years he lived in Edinburgh, Austria, Malaya, Enfield, Leigh-on-Sea, Maldon (the Essex one), Harlow and Peckham.

In 1968 Bob Joined the Royal Air Force as an apprentice electronics technician and spent the next 23 years travelling the world and enjoying all that service life had to offer. Places visited included Oman (a small island by the name of Masirah), Cyprus, Malta, Holland, Germany and various parts of the UK. During this time he met and married Bernadette and produced three children, Ewan, Tara and Sinead. He retired from the RAF in 1991.

Following on from this Bob took up new employment with Royal Mail as part of their logistics team and stayed with them until 2009. After that he returned to his roots and took up a position with the Ministry of Defence at their Logistics facility at Bicester, Oxfordshire, before leaving in 2012 to take up full-time writing.

Bob has always been keen on writing and had tried his hand at various projects over the years, but the need to earn a crust had always interfered with his desire to be more creative. Now Bob returned to writing with a passion and produced two works of fiction in rapid succession and one non-fiction work. In truth these had been "works in progress" while he had still been in full-time employment and just needed finishing off. Since publishing these three books on Amazon he has written several more, including his long running Magi sci-fi series and the first two books of a World War II series about the commandos.

In his spare time Bob enjoys playing golf, is a member of a pub skittles team, is an active member of the Royal British Legion and supporter of Northampton Saints rugby team.

I have enjoyed all of the Carter books so much that I am now disappointed to have finished them! The author has put lots of detail in and the stories are thoroughly absorbing. Bravo. Here’s hoping for some more Steven Carter stories in the future, please!

A series of nine books. Love them, easy to read and footnotes at the end explaining what really happen. Wish there was more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Read

Having read all six books l can say that they are definitely 5 star reading. With strong central characters, army humour and stories based on fact these are a must for any readers of WW11 battles. You can get sidetracked by the reference articles but they add to the story instead of having to go to the end of a book to study details. Not your gung ho type of reading but an introduction into how and why the commandos were formed, their early battles and training and then following them on through the different theatre's of war. The highs and lows of life as a commando in the second world war. Very well written with a narrative that keeps you glued to the book until you finish it. If you have not yet discovered Robert Cubitt and Carter's Commandos then do so now. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable read.

One of those books and series I was saddened when I knew I had finished it. I was kept engaged from start to finish. I could identify with the main characters and could empathise with them.

A close family member, who served in the army, would recognise the thought and feelings of the men who served. At times I had to wipe away a year or two.
