Misty Black is an international bestselling and award-winning author of children's books. When she's not busy crafting meaningful stories that inspire and delight children worldwide, you'll find her exploring her faith, spending time with her family, or engaging in a friendly competition over her favorite board games. She's only a bit competitive, or so she says (wink).

Her passion for cooking runs deep, as she learned the importance of a home-cooked meal from her mother at a young age. And while she can brew up a mean pot of soup, she'd be the first to admit that her singing voice leaves much to be desired. She loves the great outdoors and camping in the mountains. However, she doesn't get to go as much as she'd like. But that doesn't stop her from seeking adventure in other ways, mainly through reading and writing.

Her ultimate goal is to inspire a love for reading in every child so they, too, can embark on thrilling adventures without ever leaving the comfort of their own minds. If you're looking for a family-oriented author with a passion for inspiring young minds and a willingness to sing off-key while whipping up a cheesy lasagna, look no further!

Misty books include:

Punk and Friends Learn Social Skills series: (Available in Spanish as Zac y sus amigos)

Punk the Skunk Learns to Say Sorry

Can Quilliam Learn to Control His Temper?

I got this book, because I absolutely LOVED the first book in the ‘With Love Collection’. While I think that the first book (When You Feel Better) is more relevant when you, your child, or someone you know is sick, this book about love is relevant in any situation! The story is very well written with a fun and unique rhyming pattern. The illustrations are gorgeous, and my daughter had a lot of fun finding the hidden ladybugs on each page. I am excited to read future books in this series!

This is a fun, vibrant story about love and all the different ways it can be declared and received. It’s the second book in the author’s “With Love” collection and is a playful expression of just how deep a parent’s love is for their children.

My son and daughter-in-law are expecting their first baby (a little girl) in April 2020 and it’s been bittersweet watching them experience the miraculous journey of the pregnancy. As a new grandmother-to-be the most endearing message I have tried to pass along to the expectant couple is the gift of love through the eyes of a parent. There is no greater love and no greater gift, and yet it’s something not easily expressed with words.

“You Taught Me Love” articulates this message through a delightful romp between mother and child as they play the “I love you more” game. The little girl in the story exhibits solid attributes of confidence, happiness, joy and self-esteem – qualities instilled by the love of her mother.

The story is told in lively rhyme, with love and affection jumping off every page. The tone is musical and fun, and the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous. Colorful, playful and energetic, they are the perfect complement to the message. I just love the big eyes and curly hair – reminds me of my beautiful daughter-in-law and I can’t wait to share this book with her!

Though the story is makes for a lovely bedtime read, parent’s might have a hard time getting their kids to settle down – I can just picture your little ones wanting to act out their own “I love you more” games. “You Taught Me Love” by Misty Black is a book that will be read and performed over and over again. Perfect for little ones of any age, as well as parents and grandparents!

“You Taught Me Love” is a precious book that uses similes to compare love to things of several different senses, like touch, taste, and sight, so that kids can understand how enormously encompassing love can be. Adorable illustrations and beautiful poetry, this is certainly a book to delight the senses!

What a sweet simple story that brings fun and joy to creating how much love can one give. The pictures are so amazing, and I love looking for the Easter eggs in each of her books. The little frog has captivated me with his facial expressions. It has to be my favorite part of each page turn. Thank you for your sweet dedication at the end. A great story reminding us how much our moms have done for us, as well a reminder to fill our world with Love.

In this very sweet story, a little girl and her Mum get into the timeless discussion of how much they each love one another. The rhyming text bounces along happily, and the author has chosen a number of different and imaginative options for mother and daughter to try to express the true extent of their love. The illustrations are warm and engaging, and little ones will love going back through the story to search for items hidden on each page.

This is a sweet little story! An easy read and lovely illustrations. Children will find this very easy to understand.
I particularly like the little task of hunting down the ladybug and little hearts which seem to appear in many of the illustrations on most pages!
