- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2019This book has it all, shy unexpressed love, romance, sex, vampires, werewolves, and five gay men. I had never read anything by this author before but this story flowed well with a great plot so I will definitely look for more of her books.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2018Polyamorous relationships are hard enough to pull off in story form with three people, so five might seem like an overambitious attempt. The author does a good job though at making this believable and giving all of them equal treatment. Often when I read romances I tend to have a favorite among the main characters, but here I wouldn’t be able to choose between them.
The story does start off a bit slow in terms of relationship development between all five men. The focus at first is on learning a bit about all of them and how they connect to each other, with that split between Colin/Shaun, Shaun/Zach, and Dane/Wesley before starting to tie them all together. That takes up the first half of the book, so it’s a bit before we get to see the dynamic as a group. With so many characters all as equal mains, that does mean that we don’t get as in-depth into their personalities and connections as we would have if this was just a couple or even throuple.
I liked the paranormal aspect, it added an interesting element to the story not just from how it fits within the men’s relationship, but also with the bit of suspense it brings along the way. It’s difficult to tell that this is a paranormal story from the blurb, though the lovely cover does hint at it with the wolf in the artwork.
Love Times Five was a solid 4-star read for me. I know polyamory is not for everyone, but if you do like reading about more than just a couple this book is a good example of an author making multiple, equal partners work as a cohesive group. This story is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and steamy sexual content.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2018Well - here's the thing. I have no issue with poly relationships, whether human or paranormal. But I do know that communication is key in them, sometimes even more so than in traditional relationships. The paranormal story running through this was good, I liked that part. The part that I couldn't relate to was all of these men holding in their feelings, all of them. I get that some men are lousy at saying what their real feelings are but do we have to drop them into a generalization bucket and have them all be that way? And then when they finally do confess their feelings to each other and their desires for a poly relationship? It was rushed, there wasn't any discussion with each other about how they all wanted it to work. This had great potential - I just felt like it needed something more.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2019Wish it was a bit longer or the epilogue went a bit further in time. I'd love to know how the lifespan issue was handled. Surprisingly with 5 people I didnt feel like it detracted from the story and enjoyed seeing them coke together.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2018This is an interesting story of five men. I a vampire, 1 a werewolf, and 3 humans. Started slow, but got better. These 5 men are hot together, and I do mean together.
Introducing a vampire hunter and his wolf friend into the mix caused the story got a little convoluted.
I enjoyed the story and would recommend it to anyone who likes multiple partner paranormal stories
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2018I'm a fan of a good menage, which to me includes so much more than hot sex. To me, a good menage contains characters who stand apart from each other so that I don't get them confused. The lovers have to be loved and included equally in the relationship. And, finally, I have to believe at the end of the book that there is a real possibility that the relationship can last beyond the final page. When there are five men in the relationship, these goals seem more out of reach. However, keeping all my requirements in mind, Love Times Five was a damn good menage.
I loved the story, I loved the paranormal elements, and I adored the separate and all-encompassing bonds between these men. I fell in love with the men equally, as they did with each other. The story was so much more than just sex, and it actually took some time before the men were all together as lovers. For someone who enjoys paranormal romantic menage, and who can open up their heart and mind to allow the possibility of love between more than two, this book will not disappoint, and I highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2018The characters are caricatures, the plot is convoluted and with more holes than Swiss cheese, and the dialogue reads like a woman trying to be manly. That said, I finished the book. I may avoid books by this author in the future, but it was still a good time even if the funny parts of the book were unintentionally so.
