About the author

Chris started creating stories not long after she mastered joined-up writing, somewhat to the bemusement of her parents and her English teachers. But she received plenty of encouragement. Her dad gave her an already old Everest typewriter when she was about ten, and it was probably the best gift she'd ever received - until the inventions of the home-computer and the worldwide web.
Chris's reading and writing interests range from historical, mystery, and paranormal, to science-fiction and fantasy, mostly in the male/male genre. She also writes male/female novels in the name of Chris Power. She refuses to be pigeon-holed and intends to uphold the long and honourable tradition of the Eccentric Brit to the best of her ability. In her spare time [hah!] she embroiders, quilts and occasionally knits. In the past she has been a part-time and unpaid amateur archaeologist, and a 15th century re-enactor.
She currently lives in a small and ancient city in the south-west of the United Kingdom, sharing her usually chaotic home with an extended family, which includes three large dogs.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 22, 2015Not all myths are from Roman and Greek cultures, and not all legends are to be dismissed as fiction. From this premise we come to Donal, who is touring the Scottish islands of his grandmother's homeland. Donal is a folksinger and he is seeking the songs and stories of his family. In addition, his grandmother grew up on a croft, or farm, and she has asked him to look in and see what happened to it. As it turns out, she inherited it but did not know.
Along the way he briefly joins a folksinging group and meets Niall, who also sings with them for a short period. When Donal leaves to continue his trip in a rented camper, he picks up Niall, who is more than eager to join him. They begin an affair which Donal knows will be short and will end when he leaves to go back to America.
Donal seeks the location of one of the stories his grandmother told him about a selkie. Selkies are shape shifting seals, but unlike many other shape shifter stories these do not internalize their fur but carry it with them when they are in human form. If it is taken from them they are unwillingly trapped with the person who has their coat.
If you enjoy mythology, shape shifters, and sweet love, this is the book for you. I did have to stop every once in a while to look up the few Gaelic words that are used but once I mastered those it was smooth sailing and I enjoyed the local color they provided. This is a good story, with sweet romance and a thrilling life-or-death encounter in the sea. Ms. Quinton writes from the heart and from research, a potent combination in a romance story.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2017Fantastic fantasy! Normally I don't care for novelettes but this one was a complete story, no sense of hurrying at all. The characters were very well developed and the story was strong. The only thing I felt lacking was concerning the croft. I wanted their HEA to be there. Can't help it, I love old houses and Chris Quinton's story made me feel like I was right there.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2015It was what I thought it would be. Writing was good but it was a fantasy book. I had a problem with the book because it is a fantasy book with no indication by the publisher that it was a fantasy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lovely fantasy
I really enjoy stories about mythical creatures e.g. selkies, shifters, etc. and this was no exception. The writing is polished and flows beautifully. The romance is intriguing and ultimately satisfying, delicately handled and with a 'slow burn'. The setting, in Stornoway, is detailed and described so that it appealed to my love of travel as well as myth and legend. My only quarrel with the book was that it was too short. I wanted to follow Donal and Niall further through their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just wonderful
This was shorter than I realised when I picked it up, but unlike some shorter stories it skimped on neither detail nor reader satisfaction.
A beautifully woven tale of selkies on the Isle of Lewis, richly descriptive and easily believable, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I already have friends on the island, but now I feel compelled to book a trip to see the place for myself. This book was quite simply lovely.
