PB Flower is an Indian American author of mind-bending and deceptively narrated sci-fi books. She is an avid reader, loves traveling, and has lived in several states in the US. After nearly twenty-five years of moving around, she now calls California home. Her ten-acre property, overlooking the Sierra Mountains, offers a creative sanctuary for her writing. She maintains a Little Free Library near her hometown, showcasing signed books by Indie authors. A quiet evening by the fire, a quick swim in her pool, or harvesting home grown vegetables makes her happy. A fun fact about PB—she can sew like a pro, designing and stitching apparels in her free time.

PB has seen many ups and downs, and she believes it is her struggles that have made her stronger. Naturally, she combines several genres in her books similar to life which is also a blend of everything. While sci-fi remains her primary genre, driven by her fascination with creation, her writing is also influenced by her husband’s introduction to U.G. Krishnamurti’s philosophy. She sensually places her conceptions to keep her stories grounded while challenging routine perspectives to measure the other side.

Contrasting inquests like romance, science, supernatural, mythology, and metaphysics set PB apart and gives her readers exciting stories to make a lasting impression.

Ace Umbra by P.B. Flower is a sleek, cerebral dive into the soul of modern sci-fi—a story that doesn’t just flirt with the future, it embraces it with arms wide open. This tale is a genre-bender in the best possible way: part high-tech (sexy) whodunit, part metamorphic journey of consciousness, all threaded through a rich tapestry of human emotions.

For more than half of the book, you’re locked in with a razor-sharp mystery that crackles with intelligence and eyes on the dark side of wealth. Clues unfold like digital origami, and every detail feels deliberate. The world-building is bold and unrelenting—technological, shocking, and chillingly plausible. Characters are sparse but essential, each one fulfilling their role with quiet precision, like pieces on a cosmic chessboard. Lux and Ace make the best counterparts, that is until we meet Venus. The perfect love triangle that reads like contemporary romance. A jolt of hot chai to keep the program running.

The storytelling? Immersive. Irreverent with shots of dark satire Like stepping into a future that hums with sentient code and secret truths. You’ll find yourself so deep in the pulse of it all, the real world will blur at the edges.

The book opens with carefully layered intrigue, the final chapters—where revelations about AI and transformation burst forth—brought in mysticism and connections drawing on something even bigger.

Ace Umbra lands as a high-octane and uniquely plotted read. Think of it as a neural dance between mystery and machine, where every page whispers: The future has already begun.

Imagine living in a world where perception is but an illusion, and the truth is beyond human conscious comprehension. Now imagine sharing that world with aliens and artificial intelligence capable of adapting by modifying its own algorithms. This is the setting for author P. B. Flower’s captivating newest novel, Ace Umbra, a romantic sci-fi murder mystery. When homicide detective Ace Slavic and his girlfriend and superior Lux Kaska set out to investigate the murder of an elite member of the community, it doesn’t take long before strange things happen. Not only do witnesses’ recollections change, but even seemingly incontrovertible evidence morphs to reveal baffling new clues. Good thing Ace has the supernatural ability to read memories, because it’s going to take more than linear logic to sort out this mystery.

Ace Umbra is the first novel I have read by P. B. Flower, but I can’t help but wonder how the author could ever top it. The storyline is laden with metaphysics and mythology, the world-building is organic, the characters come alive, and the writing is superlative. It is truly one of the most inventive novels I’ve ever read, and it really caused me to examine my own ingrained thought processes. If you enjoy dystopian science fiction, dark mysteries that keep you guessing until the very last second, and poignant love stories, do yourself a favor. Read Ace Umbra. Highly recommended!

Part futuristic detective story, part twisty murder mystery, and part philosophical treatise, PB Flower’s “Ace Umbra” is at its heart a romance. The story revolves around the on-again, off-again relationships between Detective Ace Umbra and Lux Kaska, his partner and lover.

When the couple investigate the gruesome murder of a powerful (and depraved) industrialist, Ace is reunited with a former high school classmate and object of desire Venus Melantha, the murder victim’s widow. The novel takes many twists and turns, but the real pleasure is the interplay between Ace and Lux, which is sexy and often very, very funny. And just when you think you might have the actual murder figured out, the novel’s climax is mind blowing, with revelations that make complete sense in retrospect.

“Ace Umbra” is a wild rollercoaster ride into the author’s very fertile, quirky imagination. Highly recommended.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Mind-Bending, Heart-Hitting, Unforgettable

Ace Umbra is the kind of book that completely takes over your mind. It’s not just a story—it’s an experience. A masterful fusion of sci-fi, thriller, romance, and mysticism that left me in awe.

From the very first page, I knew I wasn’t reading something ordinary. The world-building is next level—Cyberdroids, memory-reading detectives, 5D crime scenes... I mean, what?! And yet, it’s not overwhelming. The author balances the tech with such emotional depth, weaving in themes of love, betrayal, memory, and identity in a way that just hits different.

Ace Slavic is such a fascinating protagonist. Rational and mysterious, he’s pulled between two women—Lux and Venus—each representing something deeper than just romance. Lux is fiery, sharp, and unforgettable, while Venus exudes danger and enigma. And Eli? He had me giggling with his impeccable comic timing at the tensest moments—such a smart narrative relief!

The love triangle isn’t just drama—it matters. It adds emotional stakes to an already high-octane plot. The chemistry, especially between Ace and Lux, gave me serious Lucifer vibes (and if you’re a fan of that show, you know that’s a huge compliment!).

What stunned me the most, though, was the world-building. Home Acquity tech, AI metaphysics blended with Hindu mythology—it’s done so seamlessly that you don’t feel like you’re reading something complex. It flows. The narrative has this rare mix of high intellect and deep feeling. The twists? Razor-sharp. The ending? Absolutely mind-blowing. I literally had to pause and just breathe after finishing.

Yes, the narrative style took me a bit to get used to, but once I clicked with it, there was no going back. The book made me question everything I believed about memory, truth, and what it really means to trust someone.

If you’re into smart thrillers, layered characters, and sci-fi with an actual heart—not just flashy tech—Ace Umbra will blow you away.

✨Highly recommended for fans of Black Mirror, Dark, and character-driven mysteries with a twist of the spiritual and philosophical.✨

    4.0 out of 5 stars What a mind-blowing book!

This book consists of all my favourite genres - Romance, Thriller and Sci - Fi. This perfect combination fascinated me alot!

I loved the world building. The inclusion of technology, like the concept of Home Acquity enthralled me! This book was fast paced, and depicted a perfect thriller plot. Also, the language was easy to understand, which allowed me to create a mapping of the situations in my mind.

Lux is the sassy character and I like her, truth be told. Eli is a very hilarious character, who lightens up the tense mood, allowing me to break into a cackle. I found Venus to be very mysterious. Ace, the main character, is also mysterious, but by the end of the book I could conclude that he was very very rational.

The things I liked the most about the book - The ending provided a proper closure for Ace. And the ending in itself was minding blowing! Let me tell you, I wasn't expecting it. The integration of the plot with Hindu mythology is done beautifully. And for those who are unaware of it, it's explained in very simple terms.

Looking for a sci - fi short book that's bound to make you sir on the edge of your chair, this one's the perfect one for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good one to read

Ace Umbra is a pure modern age sci-fi book that seamlessly blends a case solving mystery with AI, technology, and a metamorphosis theme, all while incorporating a rich mythological background. For more than the first half of the book, the narrative focuses primarily on the mystery and case solving elements. The characters in this story are minimal and each performs their role perfectly within the narrative. The narration is so immersive that it will keep you completely absorbed until you've finished reading.

While I loved nearly everything about the book, I did have a minor setback. The early chapters are rich with elaborate details and explanations however, the last few chapters which unravel all the answers involving AI and more, felt somewhat rushed and limited in comparison. Despite this, it's still a perfect fast paced read.

📖 Book Review: Ace Umbra by P.B. Flower

Ace Umbra is a dazzling fusion of sci-fi, thriller, romance, and mysticis a genre-defying tale that keeps you tethered to its pages. Set in a hyper-evolved world of Cyberdroids, memory-reading detectives, 5D adaptive crime scenes, and blurred realities, this mind-bending narrative unravels with intelligent suspense and emotional depth.

Ace Slavic rational yet enigmatic navigates not just a murder mystery but also a web of desire, duty, and distorted time. Paired with the fierce Lux and the dangerous Venus, the love triangle adds emotional stakes to an already electric plot. The chemistry between Lux and Ace is reminiscent of Lucifer, while Eli’s comic timing adds welcome levity.

What truly stands out is the world-building organic enhancements, Home Acquity tech, and AI metaphysics meet Hindu mythology in a seamless blend. The writing is immersive, the pacing razor-sharp, and the twists unpredictable. And that ending? Absolutely mind-blowing yet emotionally satisfying.

It took me a while to get used to the unique narrative style, but once I did, I was hooked. This book made me think, feel, and question everything I believed about memory and truth. For fans of high-concept thrillers and cerebral sci-fi with a heart
    Ace Umbra is a must-read.

I went into the book blind, I didn't know much about it except that it was a sci-fi romance, mystery. And god I loved it. The high-tech futuristic elements fascinated me a lot. The book is beautifully written and I loved every aspect of it, the advance technology, the mythology bits, the mystery.

All the characters are well-layered and complex, you peel back each layer with every page you turn, slowly understanding what happened and why it happened.

The mystery itself was a labyrinth that kept me hooked till the very last page and never in my wildest dreams did I expect those plot twists. The final touch with mythology made the book even better.

It was definitely a 5 star read for me. And you should really try it if you love a good murder mystery with touch of sci-fi and mythology.
