Brooding Duke. Notorious rake. Driven by grief. Forcing his enemy’s daughter into marriage for revenge. About to lose his heart.

Vengeance. Preston Seaton, the Duke of Grandhampton will bring down the man who killed his brother through any means necessary. So when Lord Neville Beckett auctions off his daughter’s hand in marriage to pay his debts, Preston makes a bid Beckett can’t refuse—evidence of murder.

Dreaming of a career as an artist, Penelope welcomes her future as a spinster. So when her father accepts the proposal of a man who despises her, she longs to flee. But she cannot abandon her poor, old father to his destruction. Moving into the powerful duke’s huge mansion, she wonders if she will ever escape this cold, dark prison.

Convinced Penelope played his brother for a fool and got him killed, Preston has no intention of losing his heart. But the sunny artist is soon filling his home with light and joy. So see beyond his past scars
📜 All Duke and Bothered 🎨 A regency historical romance Dukes and Secrets Book 1 ✒️ Mariah Stone 🌟🌟🌟🌟 I confess I had to adapt my view of this book as the story progressed. I know the author for her time travel highland romances with strong resilience heroines, so I needed more time to accept the meek heroine. And even if I know regency women were breed to only bear and obey, I was conflicted by this young woman who had dreams, sought ways to pursue them and at the same time let her father use her as his personal doormat, letting go every “belittlinment” because he was her dear papa! A father who auctions her without her knowledge to pay off his debts. Upon her first real encounter with Preston, it is instant dislike, he expresses plainly his disdain and is determined she will pay as much as her father for his elder brother’s demise. Yet things did not turn as he expected because he is not the cold aloof being he tries to pass himself for. He in some way “rescue” her from a worst fate than being his duchess and the more they spend time in the same environment, the more they see beyond what each thought the other to be. Feelings began to stir but there are so many things left unsaid between them, Penelope finds encouraged to strength to go for her dreams but with Preston still on a war path to avenge his brother, there is few options for him to be free to love her, he would have then renounce to pursue her father. A lovely romance about choosing love over war. 4 stars 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 onscreen lovemaking scenes I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.

This is my 3rd book by this author and I loved it! The book had me hot and bothered for the Duke! It’s about a handsome brooding Duke, Preston getting revenge over a traumatic loss in his life. This is such a good “enemies to lovers and arranged marriage”storyline.
With a beautiful heroine who is strong and very talented. But, there are so many secrets and heartaches between Preston and Penelope it makes you wonder if they can ever have true love and happiness! Especially since Preston and Penelope have been hurt and betrayed.
This is such a well written book with great attention to details and so many interesting secondary characters. I really enjoyed reading the epilogue and I am planning on reading this great series!

I did enjoy the plot. One of my favorite tropes is the revenge seduction/wedding. It is so satisfying when the hero discovers he got it all wrong and is hoisted by his own petard.

If the heroine had been written differently, her loyalty to her father would have been extremely annoying. But she is a genuinely warm and kind person. In fact, she was so warm and kind, she was thought to be a flirt. It gets her in a heap of trouble.

The hero was fine, but not really my cup of tea. He starts out as the quintessential masterful alpha male intent on revenge. But then he just devolves into a weak, self-doubting mess.

This could have been a five star book except the dialogue often suffered from being too expository.

But the most difficult thing to reconcile was the auction. I didn’t buy it, and so much of the plot movement depended on it. There was no real reason for any of the men to barter for her hand in marriage when they could have courted her. Especially as it was her third season. And given the ton can’t keep secrets, what peer would want that scandal. I had to sigh and move on lest it ruin the rest.

Preston the Duke of Grandhampton is haunted by guilt over the death of his older brother. He should’ve been with him. Now that he has evidence of the person responsible (Lord Beckett), he will do anything for revenge. Lord Beckett is so far in debt he is willing to sell his daughter to the highest bidder. But instead of money, Preston offers to keep Lord Beckett’s secret in return for marrying his daughter. Punishment for the role Beckett played in Preston’s brother’s death. Unfortunately, Penelope Beckett has no idea what is going on. She is a pawn to both men. I Have a few issues with the book. Lord Beckett played a role in the death of Presto ‘s brother. He auctioned off his own daughter. Then he set Preston’s home on fire with Preston and Penelope inside to destroy evidence. He expressed no remorse during that time. Yet, when Penelope finally learned everything her father had done, she told Preston he had to choose between his love for her or revenge for her father or she would leave him. I don’t get it. The way her father treated her and never supported her and she chose him when Preston gave her everything. And Preston was the one to apologize. Lord Beckett faced no consequences for his actions. I was so angry. Even though there was a happy ending, the way it unfolded made no sense to me.

Penelope and Preston, her father is responsible for his brother's death. For revenge, he buys her hand in marriage. Throughout the story, they must come to terms with the secrets, lies, betrayals, and find their way past it all to find a happily ever after.
I ranked this 4 stars because some of the modern words (the f bomb, in particular) were jarring for a period piece. Otherwise, this is a delightful story. It does leave one mystery unresolved. I do recommend this book if you like period romance.

I enjoyed reading about the couple. At one point i was angry with Penelope to be siding with her father even after learning the truth but the climax was not satisfactory in that way but oberall the book was good with the deep chemistry of the leading pairs and the mystery and secrets between them. It turned out good at the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great first book in a new series.

All Duke and Bothered is the first book in a new series entitled Dukes and Secrets. The author, Mariah Stone, is a new to me author. If this book is any indication of her writing style and character and plot development, then I am in for a treat when I read book two in the series. I’m a sucker for historical romance books that feature a Duke and I thoroughly enjoyed both Preston’s grumpy demeanour and Penelope’s desire to figure out his pain and ultimately how to try to bring out his true loving nature. I appreciate books that focus on emotion and the author has created situations in this book with plenty of both angst and happiness. Can love triumph over revenge and hate? I found this to be a very enjoyable, spicy read with sizzling chemistry and a sweet happily ever after ending.

Beautifully written, witty and full of charming stubbornness on both sides, this is a study of hate, dislike and mistrust being turned on its head - and then some! If you like slow burns, complicated misunderstandings and downright incendiary attraction then this is for you. Add in a dramatic red herring or two into the plot and you have this storyline that draws you in and won't let go! HAPPY READING! 💕❤💞💘🔥

The storyline is interesting, and the Characters real. Love does not always go smoothly for the two main Characters. However there is a lot of steamy explicit sexual scenes, which is not my cup of tea. So this Author is not for me.
