Can Will and Isobel right the wrongs of the past without hurting those closest to them?

Dublin, Ireland, 1881. Isobel Fitzgerald’s mother, Martha, marries solicitor James Ellison but an unexpected guest overshadows their wedding day. When a bewildering engagement notice is published in
The Irish Times, the name of one of the persons concerned sends Will and Isobel on a race against time across Dublin and forces them to break a promise and reveal a closely guarded secret.

I really enjoyed Lorna Peel's third novel 'A Discarded Son'! Again, she hasn't disappointed me!

I cannot express in words the pleasure I had following once again her endearing characters Will and Isobel, their families and friends. The story of their daily life has really pleased me. Some passages are filled with emotions, ups and downs even heartbreaking moments. It's a heart-wrenching story that you will never forget! Thank you Ms. Peel for writing the touching family saga of The Fitzgeralds of Dublin. This novel will catch your interest and sweep you away to Ireland, since the author is a very descriptive writer. You soon think you are there!

Set in Dublin, Ireland in 1881-1882, A DISCARDED SON tells the heart warming and dear story of Dr. Will Fitzgerald and his wife Isobel. I loved these two beautiful souls since the first story, A Scarlet Woman and then A Suitable Wife. This time, we follow Will and Isobel in their daily routines, which will gradually become a race against the clock. Many events will forever change the course of their lives. Some scenes are so intense and emotional. It makes me sad to leave for a short time these loving characters that I care for. I cannot wait to see what will happen next with Will and Isobel, their families and dear friends.

This book is so well written that I could not put it down, it soon became a real page-turner. This Irish tale is all about true love, trust, forgiveness and finally families ties and secrets.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is the third instalment of Lorna Peel’s excellent series The Fitzgeralds of Dublin. The author transports the reader effortlessly to Victorian Ireland and I quickly settled into the read.
Will and Isobel, once again at the centre of the story, continue to do their utmost to do the very best for themselves and their extended family and friends as they are confronted with numerous surprises, good and bad. It was a pleasure to follow them all as they endeavour to adapt and survive what life throws at them.
It is evident that the author has meticulously researched her subject material, from the day to day domestic endeavours of middle class families, to medical practices and the treatment of those with learning difficulties, the law and the wider social and political situation in Ireland at the time.
Will and Isobel are a couple whose lives I have followed since reading A Scarlet Woman and A Suitable Wife. I enjoyed reading how their love and mutual respect for each other continue to deepen as their relationship develops. I have also enjoyed reading about the other characters in their extended family and circle of friends, which the author develops further within this novel.
The read is perfect for readers who are looking for a rich and authentic work of historical fiction, one with elements of romance, family loyalties and commitment.
Please note that a copy of this book was given to me by the author for the purpose of a fair and honest review.

Can't imagine what it would be like to be institutionalized your whole life like Miles was. He seemed to adjust well to out side life. Believe he had a little less mentality than a 15 year old.
    John was a great kid
    Hated the grandmother
