A Home for Berus: A Sci-Fi Alien Romance (Tallean Mercenaries Book 10) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 735 ratings

Taken from Earth, owned by a merchant, stolen by a thief, and finally left to be monster chow on an abandoned mining planet, my life has been one bad day after another. I’m not even surprised when I get thrown into the brig of a bounty hunter’s ship. My luck finally turns when the biggest Tallean warrior I’ve ever seen comes to my rescue.

No stranger to violence, Berus is a brawler who knows how to use his claws and fangs. I should be terrified of him, but instead, I can’t stop my body’s reaction to his powerful muscles and possessive words.

He promises to bring me to Reka 5 so I can live a life of freedom. The way there is fraught with danger, but even if we make it, I’m not sure I’ll arrive with my heart intact. Because I’m falling for my big, bad alien. And I’m falling hard.

This story is a complete romance and can be read as a standalone or as part of a series. Sweet & steamy, and packed with action and adventure. HEA guaranteed!

You don’t have to read all the prior Tallean Mercenaries books to read this one. They help with more in depth backstory and they are great stories in of themselves; but it is first and foremost a romance albeit set in an alien location.

Camila (aka Cami) is a human woman that is trying to evade recapture by her alien “owner”. She was abducted from Earth years ago and hasn’t been free to choose anything since then. To be free again is all that she desires.

Rehden, her new alien owner, just happens to also be a mercenary and has just caught the attention of bounty hunters. After the bounty hunters capture Rehden, they nab Cami as well since she is a desirable human female.

Another human woman named Roxy is taken at the same time as Cami. Roxy has a “mate” (aka husband) who is a huge Tallean male named Ckzarr. To say that Ckzarr is mad about Roxy’s capture would be putting it mildly - he sees red. Ckzarr has brought back-up by the name of Berus. Berus is also a Tallean male, but he literally dwarfs Ckzarr in height and breadth. Cami literally thinks he’s as big as a “bear”. Though fierce in countenance, Berus is kind and thoughtful with Cami.

The women are rescued and return to the Tallean mercenaries’ ship. Cami trys to sort out what her next steps are as an actual *free* person. At the same time, Berus is feeling very attracted to Cami. I won’t give any spoilers, but the rest of the story is how Cami and Berus search for love, companionship and freedom- just not in the same order. They do have an eventual HEA and find their “home” in each other - regardless of the actual place.

An engaging romance with a bit of spice and some interesting situations. This book delivers. Author Lynnea Lee is an outstanding author and I highly recommend this romantic story which just happens to be between a human and an alien.

I purchased this book and received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was the first Lynnea Lee series I ever read and it remains my favorite after 10 books. Berus, is even bigger than some of the largest Tallean warriors we have read about in the past. He joined the Dominion as a teen to avoid starvation but all they did was use him for his size and brute strength. They thought him less intelligent and completely expendable. Captain Ulrek when he left the dominion took his most trusted with him and that included Berus. The captain and the rest of the crew treat him with respect and like family but he still feels at loose ends. On a rescue mission Berus saves Callie from a terrible male and some horrible bounty hunters. Since being taking from Earth she has no idea what it means to be free. When Callie is rescued Berus' size scares her but then his gentleness and caring ways when he interacts with her attracts her like nothing she's ever experienced. Berus proves time and time again that her will do everything in his power to keep her safe and show her just how much he loves her! Well worth the read loved it!🔥💖🌟🔥🌟💖🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥💖🌟🔥

Berus is a sweet, kind male to his friends. He thinks he is only good for fighting. But he proves himself wrong. Cami is trying to get away from Rhedon. A thief and dirty fighter. Berus and Cami discover how well they fit together. They have a great adventure on planet. Really liked it.

The title says it all really. This is a mostly fun series of brain fluff escapism. Sexy alien pirate bounty hunters. Say that five times. But unlike most brain fluff, for some reason the author has decided to have the female ‘romantic’ leads all be former/ current slaves. Less fluffy, more depressing?

Anyway, some of these books have caused me to want to throw up bc the male romantic leads have not been any better than the slavers the women were rescued from. To say that consent has been murky is an understatement. And this one skirts that with how quickly the FMC rewards the MMC with gratitude sexy times.

But he legitimately tries to free her, to give her independence and safety at the cost of his own wants and needs.
Geez, what an absolute low bar to clear.

But you can’t help but cheer when the FMC hurdles past her trauma and saves herself from the baddie and doesn’t fall for his emotional manipulation. As she says, if he were a true mate, he wouldn’t hurt her and would want her to be free. Wow. Brava! Put that on a poster somewhere. To ANYONE stuck in a toxic relationship, take note.: Someone who loves you doesn’t hit you. Doesn’t make you feel less than.

It does have the rather annoying tropes to extend the book’s length of: 1) romantic misunderstanding and 2) the inability of the ‘good guys’ to simply kill off the obvious problematic baddie when they have the chance.. i.e before he predictably betrays and cheats to come after them when most vulnerable. Oh gods even the fight me one on one without weapons… Eye roll.

Perfect. Needed some smoothing and editing of unnecessary parts. Would have liked more of their time as new couple at the end.
