The Statement of Andrew Doran Kindle Edition
For years Doran has been at odds with Miskatonic University.
Putting his negative feelings aside, Andrew takes charge and heads straight into the Nazi-controlled territories of Europe. Along his journey from America and into the heart of Berlin, the dark Traum Kult, or Dream Cult, has sent beasts from the void between worlds to slow his progress.
This is adventure and monsters unlike anything the anthropologist has ever experienced, and only with the assistance of the trigger-happy Leo and the beautiful Olivia, both members of the French Resistance, does Dr. Doran have any chance of success.
A sane man would flinch.
Dr. Andrew Doran charges in.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2014This is a very interesting read, full of surprises. I love the story, and found it very entertaining. I love stories that entertain.
Dr. Andrew Doran, the protagonist of the enchanting story, started off being too boastful for my liking, as well as making himself a super human. But then, he had to be a super human to survive all the beating, falling, and near death escapes he endured.
As much as I enjoyed the story, I have to say that the editor did a vey poor job of keeping the story as free from errors as possible. One error was constant throughout the book, and it was the use of “than” instead of “that.” Chapter four of the book should have been given a much closer editing than it received. There were just too many run-on sentences in this chapter, that after going through them two or three times, I could still not understand what the author was trying to say.
For a story of this beauty, I would advice the author to get a good editor to give the story again, a once over. The story itself is too good to be butchered like that.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2025Format: KindleWhat a strange blend of historical fiction, imagination and horror! I gave it a three star vote because it held me to the end. It’s fairly clean, very bizarre, and has a great ending. Andrew Doran is a curious character.
That said, while I appreciated the protagonist’s battle against evil, I dislike reading about the undead. They just don’t interest me. Vampires and the living dead for me are just trite. Then, too often in the book I found myself being asked to just believe something I found more than a little unlikely.
I had thought that I knew who Matthew Davenport was, but unless this is an earlier version of him, this man loves the occult, not godliness, and he seeks to interest others in weird ideas about magic and aliens.
Just not my cup of tea.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is an action packed ride; think Indiana Jones if he was fighting Cthulhu. The main character is a bit of a Mary Sue (too good at everything) for my taste, but people don’t go to the Indiana Jones movies to see Indy struggle with things. And hey, there’s lots of Nazi punching. Who doesn’t want to punch Nazis? If you need a book to distract you on a plane ride, here you go. Enjoy!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 25, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA fun, pulpy adventure packed to the brim with Cthulhu Mythos fan service, that feels like a mash up of Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, and a Lovecraft story.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 2, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe author provides compelling concepts in character, setting, and plot. Unfortunately, poor writing, lack of planning, and two-dimensional dialog prevents the narrative from delivering on the promises made. I was never able to overcome the desire to mentally edit the text for long enough to actually enjoy reading it.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIn the early days of WWII there were forces beyond this world in Berlin, anxious to destroy the Allies and take over the world. Dr. Andrew Doran, archeologist, travels between the Dream Worlds where Cthulhu reigns and into places where strange beings seek to capture or destroy him. Matthew Davenport brings these horrors close to the reader with a fast moving story in the spirit of H.P. Lovecraft.

1.0 out of 5 stars There’s pulp and then there’s pulp.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the kind that should be pulped.
The author has just thrown every creature in the Cthulhu myths at a hero who , armed with a magic sword and a magic revolver just surmounts one insurmountable obstacle after another in the most boring fashion imaginable..the many action sequences have all the thrill of playing a computer game in God mode..I.e. none.
If you want a different take on Lovecraft that’s thrilling, intelligent and fun, try the Harry Stubbs novels.
