"5 Stars . . . A fun story and a quick read for me. I say quick because I didn't put it down much. Her (Petie's) stories always seem to grab me. They have humor and a little bit of suspense. I love the characters she crafts. They always have personality . . . in my experience, there is always a much more enjoyable story than just a romance.

About the author

Petie spent a large part of her career working at Walt Disney World—"The Most Magical Place on Earth"—where she enjoyed working in the land of fairy tales by day and creating her own romantic fairy tales by night, including her series, The Cinderella Romances. She eventually said good-bye to her "day" job to write her stories full-time.
These days Petie spends her time writing new tales for The Watchers series, the Cinderella Romances series, and the Lords in Time series, as well as new contemporary romance standalones like her previous two—Any Fin For Love and Ambush in the Everglades.
Petie shares her home on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee with her horticulturist husband and an opinionated Nanday conure named Sassy Smart Assy--maybe the oldest living Nanday conure at 27 years old.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAuthor Petie McCarty has several commonalities in books that I’ve read: an easy flow to her writing with good plot pacing, descriptive prose of scenery and settings and strong character development. I found these elements in this book, too. Any Fin For Love is a stand-alone book, without a cliff hanger ending and written in third person.
Cody Ryan is an accountant in Miami, still grieving the sudden, unexpected loss of her father one year ago. She loved fishing with her dad as a young girl and has embarked on a pilgrimage of sorts to fish in the annual Loon Fishing Tournament in Loon, Alabama. Her Dad’s career as a policeman kept him busy, but he always returned to Loon for the tournament and the people/friends he made there. Cody wants to fish in his place, see what he saw in the tiny town and meet the people who enriched his life.
Gage Connor is a Captain in the US Coast Guard, stationed in Louisiana. Some recent, brutal cases have taken a toll on him, and he is taking some needed time away from work. His good friend, and father figure, Dougah Brooussard, has loaned him a bass boat to fish, relax and renew while fishing in a Loon, Alabama fishing tournament. With a rocky love life, because of carrying a torch for a long ago love for a girl he can’t forget, and some secrets regarding his family, his presence in Loon is not easy.
Predictably, Cody and Gage meet in Loon and are stunned by their incendiary attraction, but their initial impressions of each other are not good. She rents the last boat slip right before him and then wins a coin toss for the last empty room in Loon. She gets herself into trouble on land and on the lake and Gage is there to rescue her. Their irritations with each other soon morph into very hot kisses. Neither want nor need a temporary relationship, but they find themselves paired as fishing partners for the tournament.
Dougah has a run in with two unsavory characters related to Gage’s job and the conflict follows Gage to Loon. A few wacky Loon residents add some comic relief, Doc Taylor provides insights to both Cody and Gage, jealousy and misunderstandings abound, tournament jerks appear with redeeming qualities and mistaken identities are resolved while a tender romance begins. Tension abounds when danger closes in on Cody and Gage and new alliances and trust are formed to combat it. It is a wild ride in Loon!
I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic suspense book and recommend it. I purchased this book because I like the author’s writing style. I voluntarily submit this honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 25, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIn this fast-paced book, Gage and Cody were bound to meet as the attraction between them went much further than either of them anticipated. The story is fraught with accidents and unexpected meetings, as well as a good dollop of goons and irritating females to stir up the mix. Pushing the limits, Cody signs up to participate in the Loon annual fishing contest, challenging the previously all-male entrants and giving the ladies of Loon something to cheer about. However, the best-laid plans go awry and both Gage and Cody find themselves in more hot water than they can handle, forcing them to rely on unexpected allies. I enjoyed the humor in this story and the action and was pleased that Gage and Cody eventually discovered the source of their attraction. The book is generally well-written and comes to a happy conclusion. I’m not a fishing enthusiast but do understand the lure that it casts on its participants, causing them to go to any lengths to win. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI got into this book and enjoyed it. Then, it got like a YA novel with the back and for feelings and accusations between Gage and Cody. I almost stopped reading half way through. I'm glad I stuck with it. It gets real good and full of action in the end.

Cody Ryan lost her father a year ago and she has decided to compete in the Loon Fishing Tournament which her father always participated in despite her lack of fishing experience. She learned all her knowledge about fishing on YouTube, but she is determined to do this for her dad. With her dad’s johnboat she set out to get a slip for the boat and luckily got the last one beating out a man with a huge red boat and leaving him angry.
Unfortunately, getting the last slip was not the only thing she beat him to, the last room in the inn also went to her leaving a very irate man behind. Signing up for the tournament Cody discovered that women have never been allowed to participate but Cody did her research and nowhere does it state no women. The women of Loon embraced Cody because she is opening the door for all the women in town who dreamed of participating in the tournament.
Gage Connor is a captain in the Coast Guard and his job is bringing drug dealers and smugglers to justice, but he has been convinced that he needs a vacation and so he picked Loon. His decision to enter the tournament was based on more than vacation but that is his story, and I won’t reveal it. So far, his experience since he arrived in Loon has been less than stellar thanks to a beautiful woman who has proved to be a thorn in his side.
Gage’s best friend Dougah Broussard, who he saved when pirates threw him overboard and took his boat, is like a father to him, and he offered Gage his boat for the tournament. No hotel room, no slip and a woman that despite everything intrigues him. When Dougah informs Gage that two men came looking for a bag they left on his boat and it is the boat Gage is using, Gage begins to worry for his friend. He was right because the men left Dougah for dead in the swamp and Gage who tried to leave work behind finds work knocking on the door in Loon.
Gage and Cody seem too always be tied to one another and never more so than when they were picked as the pair for the two-day tournament. It is while fishing together and being chased by drug runners that the two find themselves wanting to be together, only trust is an issue between them. Gage can’t get rid of the girl who keeps grabbing him and Cody decides to use the girl’s brother to make Gage jealous. Neither the girl nor her brother is a threat, but Cody and Gage choose to believe what their eyes tell them rather than find out the truth.
There is a lot about Gage and Cody that I refuse to reveal, and they are very surprising. Secrets and a past will be the catalyst for a relationship long time in the making. A story that grabbed me from the start and didn’t let go till the end.
