Art Trap (John Kite Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 95 ratings

PI John Kite's car explodes under him. An alluring woman rescues him. Or does she? Is she a divine saviour, or a deadly stalker? Chasing stolen paintings, ex-cop Kite discovers an oligarch is targeting a cache of almost perpetual wealth, hidden deep inside one of the world's poorest countries. Kite rescues a lost soul in a foreign market, and is attacked by the adventurous woman who supposedly rescued him. To stop the Russian’s empire-building, he battles not just the oligarch's private army, but also the west's own secret services as he tries to save a desperate nation from being pillaged. A “feelgood thriller”.
"Another cracking good story."
"Sixth big hit in a row."
"Cleverly plotted, well paced, with enough bumps and twists to keep it interesting. Gave you that urge to rush to the finish." (Amazon Reviews)

"There’s a lot going on in my crime thriller books," says author Stuart Doughty, "but there's also stuff you may not find in other writers' books. There are murders, heists, chases, but also quirky characters, snappy dialogue, and a sense of humour. My main character, British PI John Kite, is a tough guy who can fight, climb, drive fast and is a police-trained marksman, but he's also intelligent, amusing and thoughtful - even sensitive - on occasions. At age 19, Kite discovered his father was a professional criminal, so he changed his name, and changed his life to join the police. Now, as a PI, he still strives to atone for his father’s crimes. Specialising in hunting stolen artworks, he crosses continents to fight crime – and save the world from the mayhem threatened by despots, tycoons, warlords, and foreign agents.”

Stuart was born in London, England. He spent most of his life working as a Television Producer, making popular drama series and soaps.

Love every John Kite story, and each is better than the previous. Action, drama, touch of romance, inventive and quite interesting stories. Just enough detail on locales so I am drawn even more into the action. I adore Kite's "super power" and as a perpetually lost tourist am envious. But inquiring minds really want to know how much of this stellar character is based on the author?!

I love John Kite and am addicted to this series. However, this outing wasn't quite as good as the first five. I felt like there was more swearing and bad language in this one and hate to see the author submit to the pressure to be more 'relevant'. John's moral compass seems to have slipped a little in this outing. Hope this trend doesn't continue.

I've just finished the series - all 7. All were cleverly plotted, well paced, with enough bumps and twists to keep it interesting. Each gave you that urge to rush to the finish with them.
    Thoroughly enjoyed.

Art Trap was the sixth John Kite book that I've finished in the last two weeks. Each one was a "page turner" that was hard to put down. Yes, there were a few more editing errors in this one, but not enough to spoil the flow of some really clever stories. Great plot, plot twists, suspense, action and adventure, along with some great characters. Our hero is not quite a superman (but close), but indeed is a super sleuth. Sometimes his uncanny powers of deduction (or induction?) seem like nothing more than really good guesses, but always get him where he needs to go and successfully solve the case. Kudos to the author for some really great work. John Kite 6, bad guys 0! Only one minor criticism: each book ends almost abruptly; the case comes to a successful conclusion, with a few loose threads left for the reader's imagination to tie up. In The Art Trap I could have used a few more pages to let me know HOW the stolen art was returned and how our hero gets home again, and what happens to him when he does get home to the people who told him not to go in the first place. But don't let that stop you from reading and enjoying this book immensely.

Lots going on in this story with plenty of up to date references like sanctions on Russian oligarchs and restrictions on blood diamonds. Kite and Kate was never really going to happen, she was on the wrong side but he did team up with Erika and they saved each other a couple of times. They were both a bit out of their depth, outmanned and outgunned but they got there in the end.
