    Harriet Smart is a novelist living in Northumberland

    Educated at the University of St Andrews, Harriet’s debut novel, A GARLAND OF VOWS, was inspired by her research into a firm nineteenth century church furnishers and turned into an epic family saga, spanning fifty years. Her second novel, GREEN GROW THE RUSHES, set in Edwardian Scotland was short-listed for the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award. She is currently writing a series of crime novels set in early Victorian England.

    Julian Smart writes 'The Thomas Rufford Mysteries', set in a nineteenth-century fictional town in the north east of England.

    He wrote the e-book editor software Jutoh, and founded the wxWidgets open-source GUI toolkit project which is used by many organisations and individuals worldwide.

    In 2021, Julian collaborated with Harriet Smart to write 'Emma Vernon’s Northminster Ghost Stories', a spin-off from Harriet’s 'Northminster Mysteries' which he has edited since 2010. Together with inspiration from the beauty and history of Northumberland, this started Julian on his own writing journey.

    Julian Smart was born in Nottingham, England, and studied at the University of St Andrews. Julian has worked for the University of Edinburgh, the Artificial Intelligence Applications Institute, the Scottish Crop Research Institute, and Red Hat UK. He lives with his wife Harriet in a seventeenth-century house in Berwick-upon-Tweed.

    These are such fun ghost stories. I enjoyed them so much. They are like stories you would tell around a campfire. No special effects, no fake blood. Just plain old-fashioned spookiness! Well done, Emma Vernon. (Wink)

    There are some quite good stories in this collection, and one of two are really quite spooky! Yes I know ghost stories are meant to be scary, but I usually find them rather silly. These are certainly some of the better ones.
