Like You Mean It (A Fake Dating Roommates Romance) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 30 ratings

She needs a date for her brother’s destination wedding.
He could use a free holiday.
What’s a week of fake dating between roommates?

Nila has always been a good daughter. She brought home the right grades, skipped the rebel phase most teenagers go through, and got into medicine just like her Indian parents wanted. With one exception: she refused to cut off her gay brother.

Whether she’ll be at his destination wedding in the Maldives is not even a question—of course she’ll go, even if it means facing the guy who broke her silly teenage heart. But asking her playboy roommate Justin to pose as her boyfriend, just so she can prove she’s one-hundred percent over Douchebag Extraordinaire? Isn’t exactly how she planned it.

It’s a win-win, though: Nila gets a boost of confidence, and Justin gets a holiday he could never afford on his student job. That he’s smokin’ hot is completely irrelevant to their arrangement: she made the mistake of falling for the wrong guy once and doesn’t care to repeat the experience.

Not even when things get a little too real for comfort.

Like You Mean It is a light-footed romance about two people who need to figure out their own worth before they can truly let themselves fall—featuring snappy dialogue, infinity pools, and freerunning à la James Bond.

I loved how the couple actually got to know each other bit by bit. The attraction grew slowly along with the friendship. All the side characters and the relationships with them were also great. Just a really good character driven romance. Also, it was set in Germany with two German characters, which was a nice change of pace.

    Highly recommend!

I've read nearly all of their books and the fact that they aren't a best selling billionaire author (yet) means I just need to keep recommending these books. I have yet to read one that I haven't loved.

I have read a version of this story before, but find this iteration a wonderful addition.
I very much enjoy Zarah Detand/Bentley’s writing style, which is thoughtful and witty without being forced (often the wittiness or “snark” is so forced there’s nothing funny or joyful about it).
I only wish we got to read Vivian and Simon’s story first! Or second, I’m not difficult :-)

ah, this was so good! this was in the same world as If It's Not You (Rahel and Janosh) - with Nila now in her first year of med school. it's sort of a fake dating / roommates to lovers story but it's always the characters, the dialogue, and the slow build up that make Zarah's books work so well for me. I just loved Nila and Justin - they saw into the heart of each other so well and it made their relationship so believable. such a great read to sink into and just enjoy the writing and the characters. I came away with a huge smile on my face (with a few tears along the way).

Cute story but having read other books by Ms. Bentley, I kind of felt like she didn't really like these characters. Her m\m novels are long and full of nuance and detail. This felt rushed and like she was writing a m\f out of obligation. Still a cute story but definitely below what I've come to expect out of her romances.
