The Spicetown Mystery Series

Welcome to Spicetown

Welcome to Spicetown

When a crime stopper senior citizen starts to act oddly, a new business sells fake products and the New Year’s Eve fireworks display disappears, Mayor Cora Mae Bingham and the Spicetown Police Chief Conrad Harris have to get involved.

Cora keeps an eye on her quaint small town nestled in the southern hills of Ohio. Although Spicetown is sprinkled with culinary street names, stores full of spices, and quaint life-long citizens, out-of-towners can bring in a dicey element.

"...Cozy fans who prefer the crimes in their mysteries to be nonviolent will be charmed." (BookLife)

Well this town is sure full of surprises. After findings bones in the garden, the towns gossip starts on who they belong to. I find the attitudes from some of the people is too funny but I suspected the murderer had to be between two people. Will continue this series since Cora and Connie are a great team.

Almost 20 years ago a man disappeared. Everyone, including his long-suffering wife, expected him back. Bones were found when holes for young Christmas trees were dug.

A Bell in the Garden has everything I enjoy in a cozy - wonderfully developed characters, humor, friends and family that have their own interesting storylines and a mystery that keeps you guessing!

When human remains are discovered on a nursery/landscaping site, Cora Mae and Conrad are presented with two classic questions - who is buried there and why? The path to the answer will keep you hooked!

The two main characters, Cora Mae (Mayor of Spicetown) and Conrad (Police Chief) have a refreshingly witty and lovely friendship. They work together to keep the town safe. With each book, we meet more residents and become more invested in the "goings on" in Spicetown. I love the fact that Cora Mae and Conrad are a little older (50's - like me!) and both are easy to relate to.

Reading the series is like visiting with old friends and catching up on their lives. In Spicetown, that can include murder and mystery! I encourage you to start with the first book, "Welcome to Spicetown" because you don't want to miss any time with these characters. I can't wait for the next "visit"!

My major complaint is that the story ends abruptly with no real resolution. I felt left hanging. I think the implicit should have been made explicit. OI want to know the aftermath and how everyone reacted and how they were affected. Maybe in the next book.

I’ve just started reading Sheri Richey’s series on Spicetowm. I like the fact that it’s a cozy clean mystery and the characters are likable (for the most part). It reminds me of the Mitford books as far as small towns go. You get to see how small town life is like. So far, the mysteries aren’t gory dead bodies with a scary murderer. I’m enjoying this series very much.

Well, I gave this series another chance, but I didn’t enjoy the second book much more than I liked the first. Don’t get me wrong, I thought Cora and Conrad were very interesting characters that had a real connection. However, I just wasn’t enthused about much else. It’s not poorly written, yet it just doesn’t appeal to me.
