- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDark gory but still sweet and beautiful? Makes perfect sense doesn’t it? Blu has a history of killing people but his latest target has his own target in June, our sweet innocent barista. When he gets targeted in steps Blu to save the day, in his own twisted way. What follows from there is an ista-love that is sickeningly sweet but fits the two of them
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2025Format: KindleVerified PurchaseJune is a barista dating a serial killer, Richard, unbeknownst to him. Blu is a psychiatrist and a psychopath who happens to have Richard as his patient. When he realizes Richard is about to kill his next victim, he decides to kill him instead. When he breaks into his house, he ends up saving June's life and decides June is his forever. This was a twisted tale of love gone wrong then right. I absolutely loved it.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2025Format: KindleI read this book and really enjoyed it, especially the plot twist at the end. The relationship between the main characters progressed very quickly, and I felt it needed a bit more time to develop, considering how they met. I appreciated that Blue didn’t immediately jump into saying “I love you” to June. Instead, he questioned his emotions and wondered if they meant he had been misdiagnosed—a thoughtful and unique angle I haven’t often seen in dark romance, especially with a character diagnosed as a psychopath. The author did a great job blending sweet and dark moments in a way that felt natural. The spicy scenes were spot-on. Overall, this was a solid and engaging read, and I’m looking forward to Leo’s book!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the first book in the Family Ties series. You definitely want to check the trigger warnings on this one! This book is a *dark* romance. (It is also an age gap romance).
Blu is a psychiatrist by trade but a serial killer at heart. He has something he calls a beast inside of him that helps him pick his victims. (Blu’s stalking is top tier). June, a barista at Ray’s Beanery, is dating one of Blu’s patients. Things get wild pretty quickly and Blu and June cross paths. It was interesting seeing how Blu handles experiencing certain emotions for the first time. He is obsessed with June, but he also cares about/loves him. The even more interesting thing was June’s journey throughout the book. He comes off as innocent and pure, but he is definitely a little more complex than initially expected. He is extremely attracted to Blu’s darkness. Both MCs influence one another in some way. Their relationship is very unique, but they accept one another for who they are (especially on June’s part). This pair has passion in spades! This book is a very engaging read. It is full of violence, murder, and steam. The author tells you upfront that the book is unhinged, and I agree with her, but it works! Somehow, Blu and June figure things out (Blu has no morality and June’s is gray at the very least) and find their way to a HEA that’s fitting for them.
Leo is another surprise as well. I’m excited that his book is next up in the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 12, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBlu is a psychiatrist who is a serial killer. Through a patient he wants to kill, who also kills, he meets June, a barista who fascinates him and saves June for himself. Blu is a psychopath who has never felt a thing for anyone but a relative before June and now is major level obsessed with him. June who at first appears normal, justifies everything Blu does and tries to manipulate him to protect the innocent, then becomes a different man. This is one of the darkest books I have read yet emotionally triggering and super steamy sexually. Blu is the ultimate depravity yet protects June with tenderness and keeps him safe. June teaches Blu what love feels like. It's a twisted obsession that grabs you and won't let go. I received a copy of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my voluntary opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWow! I really enjoyed the story. The theme was new with a twist that I liked. You really get to know the characters, and care about them. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBlu will do anything to protect June and June loves Blu despite his extracurricular activities. This is one of the few stories I've read with a black MMC and it was nice to see this representation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accidentally Heroic Serial Killer
Format: KindleVerified Purchase1st person, present tense, dual POV
Blu York (38), private parctice psychiatrist
June King (27), barista at Ray's Beanery
I received an ARC for Leo, My Partner so I figured I should start where it all begins as the characters do overlap even if each book focuses on a different couple.
Mind the content and trigger warnings. I'm not a huge dark romance fan, but I do enjoy dipping my toe in the water every once in a while when I'm in the mood. The hook of "a psychopathic psychiatrist that will kill anyone that tries to hurt his little fox" was too much for me to resist.
This turned into the dark fairytale I didn't know I wanted with an immediate blindsiding obsession, daring rescue from the greater evils, and insane instalove. I love when characters have to join forces to accomplish goals/tasks and support each other which this had a small unconventional twist on.
This book is unhinged, OTT, and smutty, it drew me in and kept me turning the pages well into the night, long after I should have been in bed. I don't know what to say other than it just tickled my fancy!
While this does read alone rather well I'm glad to have waited to read it as the next book features June's best friend and fellow barista, Leo, and follows the events of this story.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wannabe Dexter
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseStarted like Dexter which I adored. But after some chapters it changed to something unrealistic what I didn't enjoyed so I didn't finish this book
