High Stakes (Bo Blackman Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,099 ratings

It’s only been a month since the doors of my own PI firm have opened. That doesn’t mean I’m not busy. It’s not only ridiculous allegations about vampire dogs and complicated relationships that I have to deal with, however.

When a woman is brutally assaulted and barely escapes with her life, I make sure I form an integral part of the investigation. I’m not going to let the vicious perpetrator get away with what he’s done.

The trouble is that I may end up confronted with a darkness that I’m definitely not ready for.

This is the third thrilling book in the urban fantasy Bo Blackman series. Expect dark, gritty adventure with a sprinkling of romance.

Bo has another mystery to solve there is someone going around killing women and if course O'Shea finds himself in trouble again.

I really like this book it was fun. Bo really knows how to get herself into annoying situations and she also finds herself an interesting situations with Michael. One of the things I really thought was interesting is that she had her teenage hacker got into trouble but it wasn’t from hacking. She keeps meeting this scary demon but those situations turn out interesting as well. Bo is trying to build up an agency to work with humans and vampires together and now she’s earned herself a very interesting nickname. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

I love my Bo stories and this one is as good as the rest. Bo happens to always have a lot on her plate. The humans are hating the vamps and Bo is caught in the middle. She has shown some growth and some set backs in this one. She is growing as how to handle tough situations but as far as her love life is concerned...well, it need some work. Michael is so yes! and Bo is just too afraid of her feelings and avoids it like the plague. I'm wondering how much Michael will put with but he seems to always come back for me. The ending was well thought out, no cliff hanger but I'm having some hope for the romance side in the next one. More romance Helen!!!!

Love this series! I Read the "Blood Destiny" series first, and found this one directly after. I believe it's safe to say that if you have read and enjoyed one series you will probably also enjoy the other.
The story is fast and action packed so I found it very hard to put it down. There is a lot going on and whenever you think you know what's going to happen, the story takes a new turn. I did see some reviews commenting on some errors in the spelling/writing, and there were maybe a few, but nothing that put me off the story (if you're worried about that kind of thing you can probably just wait for the audiobook). I can't wait for the next one!

Harper has done an outstanding job with this book. Bo now takes some positive steps towards accepting her new reality. She establishes friendships with a wide variety of individuals while maintaining a true sense of her own personality. This book is definitely the best one in the series so far. I can't wait to read the next one, Red Angel.

Narrator is awful, boring, and makes me dislike the main character. I probably would have enjoyed the series and liked the lead character better had a different narrator been used, someone with personality. I will not be buying any other audible books she reads.

Bo continues to confront the forces of darkness. She has finally accepted her existence as a vampire. Even though she has relinquished her possibility of returning to her human existence, she still continues to do what is right, even when it is not easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Harper’s twists and turns kept me gripped

The third instalment to the Bo Blackman series just got better. The twists and turns kept me gripped. So, the romance between Bo and Michael is not the main plot, however, I prefer urban fantasy stories that way. This series would certainly suit those who enjoy reading crime fiction with some sizzle on the side

3.0 out of 5 stars Yes and no
Reviewed in Germany on January 9, 2015
I missed the second book as a kindle download. So book 1 and 3 it was.
Positive: the vampire detective plots are full of suprising twists and turns. Many interesting characters and - yes- animal pets - to get fond of.
Not so sure about: the impressive grandfather - whats really wrong between him and Bo?
Then Bo herself. While the image of a small woman as stubborn, courageous and persevering in maintaining her own moral standards is appealing , it isn't really conclusive why she keeps slapping the boss of her vampire family (where are her moral standards there ? and why does one have to snap and slap when one is attracted to a person? ), constantly snapping at people instead of asking about issues first. That makes Bo appear who is professed to be thirty one a rather immature person.
Then Lord Michael, the boss: What's he boss about? It's said, he's head of the powerful Montserrat Vampire family, yet there's no descriptive action to explain this, his, job as interesting as this might be. Instead he constantly turns up to ask Bo timid question (she then snaps or slaps), assuring her of his undying affection or turning up suddenly to help her somehow. (She's not really grateful, instead snaps) All this makes the so called 'powerful' man and CEO appear inconsistent if not weak
Hmmmm.. as in grandfather's case.that is far from explaining emotionally conflicting relationships as interesting as it might be for the reader.
This is different when it comes to Bo's care for teenaged Alistair, the helpful computernerd. Fun and friendliness spark here and the scenes between them are enjoyable to read. The same refers to contacts with other protagonists in minor roles.
So what is the problem? I believe the author is very much able to fill out what is missing- gifting her main characters with more intelligence, charme and circumspection.
I hope to experience that in waiting for the next installment.

More characters, more action and a vampire dog. Or not. Great story - though dark. Bo is chasing a brutal serial killer at the same time she is battling terrorist demons! I would prefer more of Michael being sexy but you can't have everything I guess. High Stakes is well worth a read and I have become addicted to Bo Blackman and her world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Consistent In Its Enjoyment Level
Reviewed in Australia on April 5, 2018
High Stakes is the third instalment in the Bo Blackman series. This book sees things heating up for Bo and, if it’s even possible, there is more action and even explosions.

Bo may be over her PTSD but she still has her issues and things to cope with. High Stakes sees Bo honing her P.I. skills, and we get to learn more about some of the side characters which I absolutely enjoyed - especially Rogu3.

Harper’s writing has been consistent throughout the series and this book is no different. Something else that I’ve noticed which has been consistent is the editing errors. There’s not heaps of errors but they are there, and they have been in all three of the Bo Blackman books. The editing errors are far enough apart that it does not detract from the story.

I would definitely recommend reading the first two books first. And if you’re after romance, this may not be the series for you as it is an Urban Fantasy series and concentrates on the plot more than the hottie. But I am thoroughly enjoying reading about Bo Blackman.
