- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2023Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI saw Perry's story on Facebook and found out he has a booked. I love reading others stories but stories similar to mine. I too, was abused by a handful of people I was left in trust of. My whole lief I assumed it was the norm. But I now can tell my story with out tears or anxiety. I survived and am a warrior!!! This book hit on many topics and some of the same ways I used to heal. This is a very good book. I will be passing it along to others to share.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2021Format: PaperbackVerified PurchasePerry Power said that he wrote the story of his childhood sexual abuse because he believes that “the power of breaking your silence is truly transformational…”
In a clear, straightforward and brave manner he clearly talks about what he endured and its impact upon him. He has a section called “My Purpose” in which he wrote “I wanted to help as many survivors as I could to break their silence. I knew there were countless Perrys out there struggling in silence… “…living in silence makes you feel lonely.” “I wanted to give as many sexually abused victims as I could the permission, power and platform to share their story.”
He offers a lot of practical advice as to how to break the silence. And he talks about how he, and fellow survivors, created a group called “We Rescue Kids” in order to rescue kids from sexual abuse.
Now, as a fellow survivor and grandfather who has yet to speak in such a public manner, let me say this:
We, as survivors, have lost all or most of our sense of “agency” – owning our lives, being in charge of our life, “sticking up” for ourselves, “speaking truth to power”, knowing what we know and feeling what we feel. We need to love ourselves and learn to speak with the authority of truth. Confident in our sanity. Sounds simple, but it is monumental to live as our own agents. I know I had learned as a very young boy that I could not overpower the people who raped me or beat me or who raped and beat others in my presence – repeatedly – so I “learned helplessness” as a way to survive – and continued to live my life this way and did not stand up for myself and did not even attempt to do things because I knew it was futile.
Developing a sense of agency is crucial for survivors.
It matters even if it does not yet achieve the result we think it should achieve.
Persist.
Keep speaking.
Perry’s book has been a push for me to speak and so I shall. Thank you Perry for your strength, courage and inspiration.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book brings awareness to the deep (but unnecessary) damage of holding our dark secrets close to the vest and the great power of breaking long-held silence. This book is for anyone who is living in a world where they were told to shut up about being abused. Perry Power reminds us, through this collection of stories, including his own, how important our truth is to a living an inspired, meaningful and healthy life.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2023Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThis book helped me face my Demons & bring closer for me. The tools in the book helped me forgive and move on. Being a successful business man but having the lugage of my past it was hard to forgive.
