Broken Boy: An Enemies to lovers, Second Chance Romance (The Puck Boys of Brooks University Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 3,190 ratings

They say the line that separates love from hate is thin. So thin in fact that the two almost coexist. Almost.

It’s also been said that when a dude is a jerk to a girl, it’s because, deep down, he wants her. I’m calling bullshit on all of it.

Tate Tracy is about to find out that I’m not the nice boy anymore. Nor am I a forgiving person. She might have been my best friend for eighteen years, but now, she’s no one. And if I have to remind her of that, I will. Even if we’re going to be stuck living in an apartment … together.

The trouble is, I’ve only ever had one weakness in life.

And it’s Tate Tracy.

Love this broken boy!
5 out of 5 stars
Love this broken boy!
Tate Tracy’s number one rule is, no athletes. She can thank her narcissistic father for that rule. But, her best friend, Link Sterns seems to make her question this rule with their past and present. Is he enough to make her break her rule? Wow. My heart is broken and whole all at once? Is that possible? I just knew after I finished puck boy earlier this year that broken boy would steal my entire heart and Hannah Gray delivered that damn heartbreak with a heavy dose of broken boy and girl. I have whiplash from this book in the best possible way! Talk about walking the THIN line of love and hate. Link Sterns is the epitome of enemies to lovers in this story. But does he love HARD. I’m telling you — Hannah not only wrote this book and sprinkled some drugs into it but made sure to give her readers the best possible whiplash. There’s only so many books that consume me to the point where I finish in one sitting and this was definitely one of them. I just love Link and Tate 🥹 I felt every emotion while reading this, from grief, hate, sadness and so much unconditional, soul wrenching love. The end of chapter 17 was the straw that broke the camels back for me and had the tears flowing with no end in sight. This book was just absolutely addictive and all consuming. Infinity stars & 3/5 on spice meter!

Honestly, I wasn’t sure about this book in the beginning given the way both Link and Tate acted, but I can say that I am glad I stuck it out and gave it a chance cause it ended up being a great book!!

Neither Tate nor Link had an easy go at things and they were both hurt by the other, but after realizing that no matter what, things could be different and can work out they go their HEA

Can’t wait to read the rest of this series and all future books Hannah Gray writes

This book made me cry right off the bat. It starts out with Link losing his mother to cancer and his best friend (Tate) moving away. He faces so much loss all at once so it's not a surprise that he's become a bit jaded and has some anger and resentment festering.

This is a friends to lovers turned enemies to lovers. Tate moves back and starts attending the same college. By a twist of luck, she also ends up being roomed in the same house and Link and Brody. These two really go through it and their HEA is hard won. My heart hurt for Link so much and I completely understood why he had such a hard time letting Tate back in. I liked Tate but she was frustrating. She had issues of her own that lead her to some (in my opinion) irrational choices that just ended up hurting them both. It was raw, human, real and that's one of the reasons I loved this story so much. Human's don't always make rational decisions. Sometimes we do things based off of emotions and one of the strongest emotions is fear. It can be the driving force for a lot of our choices and things we do in life. Tate was acting on that.

I am devouring this series and cannot get enough. I am so excited to read Brody's story!

This was one of my favorites from this series for sure!! The best friends to enemies to lovers was just soooo spot on! I think Hannah Gray does all of the tropes in her books so well and they just end up making for amazing storylines. The back and forth with the tension between the two main characters was so well done! I feel like I can’t say enough good things about this book.

This book follows Link and Tate who met when they were young because they were neighbors and became the best of friends when they also both secretly wanted more as they got older. Link goes through a rough time and all he feels like he needs is Tate but when they get older and things start to get complicated with them going to separate colleges and one night they decide to go beyond just friends. Tate leaves without saying anything for Link which makes him hate every part of her. But when Tate shows back up at Brooks University and by fate ends up living in the hockey house with Link he doesn’t know how to continue hating her when all he wants to do is be with her.

Tate has always wanted to be independent and not need a protector but for Link that’s all he’s ever wanted to be for her. As the school year goes on and they end up trying to be friends again, they walk a fine line between friends and more. And if things weren’t complicated before they sure are now! There were so many parts where I just would shake my kindle because I couldn’t believe how Link was acting. But at the same time I was fully in tears with how beautiful their story was! Definitely one I will keep thinking about over and over!

Tate and Link have been best friends since they were kids, until one night when their relationship became something different. Tate, struggling with the thought of being in a relationship with a hockey player after watching her own hockey player father cheat on her mother and disregard his daughters, ghosts Link right as he needs support from his friend. 2 years later, Link comes home only to find Tate is his new roommate, much to his dismay. Tate and Link have to figure out if they can repair their friendship and if there is potential for more.

Some parts of this book were really sweet and some were super cringe.

    The cringe:
    - I hated that Tate never seemed to eat. Almost every time food was mentioned, she knew she should eat but just couldn’t. Every. Time.
    - Tate not reaching out when Link lost his mom. I get she showed up at his dorm and sent him an email, but phones also work for calls and text messaging.
    - Link was straight up awful to Tate when she came back into his life. I got being upset but the hatred and ugly comments felt really inappropriate. Because of this, I was rooting for Tate and Brody for a hot moment.
    - Tate’s mom…. She disgusted me and the scene where she talks to Link almost made me DNF.
Side note: all the parents were pretty bad, but Tate’s mom was the only one who acted despicable supposedly in the best interest of her kids.

    The sweet:
    - Link not being able to be a complete bastard to Tate and getting all her favorite snacks and food and making Brody say it was from him.
    - Link saving the four leaf clover Tate gave him when they first met.

I’m obsessed already with this series and it’s only book two.. The friendship between Cam, Link and Brody is so funny. There were multiple times where I couldn’t stop laughing because of their conversations. I seriously can’t wait for Brody’s book 🤭 the way he called Tate tater tot had me rolling 🤣
Now I loved Link and Tate because you could just feel how much they loved each other the whole book. Was Link super hard on her? Yes, but he was still always there for her. He never would’ve let something bad happen to her. He was just hurting and didn’t know how to handle Tate being back.
Tate is super relatable. First, her Diet Coke addiction? Girl, same 😂 But the way she ran away from her problems to Boston thinking it would be better.. she was just as broken as Link. I loved this!

tropes - hockey romance, it’s always been you, forced proximity

I enjoyed the ott jea-lous poss-essive and protective nature of Link and also the vulnerable side of Tate.. childhood friends to lovers is my favourite trope, and add second chance kind of trope to it makes it an interesting read. Body O Brien was the best secondary character I've read about. And I'm glad he has his own book.

I feel like this was the week for emotional reads for me (or is that every week). This book did not hold back on the heartache and angst.
These two characters have known since the moment that they met that they were made for each other. It doesn’t matter that they were kids when they met, that connection they made during their first meeting was so significant that they held on to that memory. Unfortunately they didn’t get their HEA too easily because when things get tough between them, Tate decides to leave.
Tate made a promise early on that she would even subject herself to the life that her parents shared and when things begin to feel two real with Lincoln, she leaves not nothing this is the time that he would need him the most. These two characters are reunited two years later when they are introduced to each other as roommates. Let’s just say that Lincoln was not happy to see his former best friend and love of his life.
While at times I felt myself get a little frustrated with the characters and some of the miscommunication that was happen, I was still enthralled by their relationship. The little peaks in their past, their reunion and the moment when you could feel things start to shift between them including those little twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. I also have to give a little shoutout to my man Brody who did his best to steal the show with every scene that he was in. I can’t WAIT for his book.
