This is my first CP Harris read and definitely won’t be the last! I’ll admit it’s the special edition cover that first drew me to this book. Once I read the blurb I knew I’d be in for a wild ride, but I’d never have anticipated the emotional rollercoaster of a journey this book would lead me on. This is so much more than a spicy, forbidden best friend’s Dad romance. It’s a story about forgiveness, acceptance, growth, and of course, finding true love in unexpected places. Clint and Raven have a unique bond, and it’s this connection that carries them from friends to family and eventually, to everything. Their journey is not an easy one. It’s peppered with doubt, self loathing, external conflict and loads of heartache. But ultimately, the love these two have for each other stands the test of time and distance. Now let’s talk spice. Clint and Raven burn up the pages of this book! They have the most insane chemistry and CP Harris is not shy about giving us all of these passionate moments. Overall I really loved this book and will definitely be reading more from this author!

    Wow. This books was intense. I wasn’t sure what to think after the first chapter but I kept going and I am glad I did.
    And MM, best friend’s dad romance.
    Clint is a local cop, single dad. He comes across Raven being bullied when he is a 12-13. He helps him out, takes him home to his mom. Raven’s mom is an addict, she had him at 15 and hasn’t really been much a parent. Clint keeps an eye on them, checks in. When things get really bad he offers Raven a place at his home then him and his son, Joey. Joey and Raven become best friends. He remains there until he graduates. They have a tight little family. Joey and Raven both move out and start their adult lives. Clint is an empty nester, lonely, with unresolved trauma. He has always just been a dad, doesn’t really know how to put himself first. Joey is in college and Raven is a tattoo artist. Raven doesn’t visit Clint unless Joey is around. He realized a long time ago that he has feelings for Clint and maybe is in love with him. He finds it easier to just not be around him.
    Joey comes home after graduation, he enlist in the Marines. Before he leaves for boot camp, he tells his dad to do something for himself. Raven moves with Clint to save money and they start spending all their time together. Clint becomes confused about how he feels and Raven thinks this is his shot to tell Clint he loves him.
    So much going on in this book, it’s was heart breaking, traumatic, loving, healing, it broke me, and then put me back together.
    This has some intense scenes, intense smex scenes, and should not be read before reading trigger warnings.
    But I am so glad I did read it.

    I have a bad habit of being cranky when I want to like something but can’t, so I’m gonna keep it simple:

    The two MCs have zero personality and zero sense of humor beyond feeling complex and brooding and “not like other boys.” There was no point throughout this story that I forgot I was reading a book, meaning it was so forced and performative that I couldn’t get into it. Not to mention the setup of the plot. I enjoy taboo, but I felt like this book was trying to convince me that it was both taboo and normal and bad all at once. The “dad” was remarkably immature, and the “son” was a self-proclaimed old soul which the father figure seemed on board with, despite the younger one trying to convince the older one over and over he was an adult, which is one of the most childish things I’ve ever heard. Idk it was just silly to me, and I was cringing most pages. And if I met these characters irl, I would find them unbearably pretentious. The good thing is that they’re equally immature and deserve each other. I feel bad for the guy’s bio son, though.

    Tropes: relating to/tattooing song lyrics, MC is a tattoo artist who grew up in a trailer park, works on motorcycles as a hobby and gets erections when he’s tattooed. MC2 is a cop who knocked up a girl in college and is having empty nest syndrome. They’ve deemed it the “summer-of-MC2,” and the younger MC is going to teach the older MC2 how to live his life to the fullest (?)

    I came across this book from an author recommendation. I do not regret reading this. In fact, I may have neglected my regular routine to finish reading this. It was so emotionally powerful from start to finish.

    Totally on the taboo side, Raven and Clint were the picture of who society says shouldn't hook up. But the relationship they grow is too good to pass up. For Raven, it had been a longtime coming, forming a crush on Clint when he was in his teens. Clint, oblivious to Raven's feelings, took more time to adjust to these newfound feelings towards someone he already placed as family in his heart.

    This book is really written like it has three parts. The beginning of the book starts off with where they are now. More emphasis on this will be in the second half of the book, which I consider part two. Part one explains where it all began: how they met and what led them to the sweet, caring, (yet at times) toxic relationship. The decisions made and how they got to where they were in their relationship in the beginning of the book will all be revealed. Part two goes into meeting for the first time in 8 years and what that may or may not mean for them. Both scared for their own personal reasons. Will they be able to fix what is broke, and do they even want to? Part three is what happens after truths are revealed and decisions are made.

    Now my review is getting too long. Let's just say, if you enjoy a good emotional romance novel with some really sexy scenes, this is your book.

    How do I even begin to describe the love I have for this book. I have no words I’m literally speechless. I cried, I laughed, I fell in love, I got angry, I got 🥵. The sheer range of emotions this book was able to make me feel is amazing. This author is amazing and made me fall in love with raven and Clint. These men and their actions felt real to me and their love was so strong it left them broken but rest assured they pulled themselves together again and became better for each other. If you want a dark love story and aren’t put off by a few dark themes then you have to read this. I would also love there to be a story about law.
