What will the Saporis find under the tree this year—Christmas presents, or family skeletons?

In the spirit of the holiday and a wish for familial harmony, Irene Adler persuades her detective husband to invite his brother Mycroft to Christmas luncheon. Holmes had cut ties with his brother when he discovered the machinations Mycroft employed that drove Sherlock and Adler apart for four years. He isn’t really sure this reunion is a great idea, but he can deny his wife nothing.

Of course, they can’t tell the children what Mycroft is to them, as that would entail learning that their father is the celebrated detective when they know him simply as Lucca Sapori. And just when they think things may be going better than expected, ghosts of the past crop up in unexpected ways and threaten to ruin the holidays for everyone.

Christmas at The Saporis
The story Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler continues. In the spirit of Christmas, Irene convinces Sherlock to invite his brother Mycroft to join them, even though they haven’t had anything to do with each other for years. Of course they are still using the name Saporis for the safety of Irene and her children. What they don’t expect is that a surprise visitor shows up and has an un nerving request. What follows will throw them all for a loop, and help Irene put her frightening past to rest. I really enjoyed this book as well as the other two in the series and I definitely recommend it. I am learning so much about Sherlock’s life and the love of his life

Having adored Song for Someone, it took me a while to get around to reading Christmas at Saporis, the second book in KD Sherrinford’s series, but so worth the wait!
Equal parts mystery, wit, and holiday charm, this brilliant Sherlock Holmes reimagining depicts the master of deduction as a devoted husband and father.
Sherrinford’s crisp writing sparkles with delicious banter, bringing to life the era's vernacular. Holmes’s remark, “I struggle to choose between two types of shag tobacco, never mind another woman!” made me chuckle. The villain, Beau, turns into a monster when he “pops a cork.”
The sharp and engaging Irene Adler, now Mrs. Holmes, reveals their deep love and mutual respect via her husband’s quirks, moods, and unwavering brilliance.
Richly detailed historical settings immerse you into a Victorian Christmas of 1901 with the handmade crackers and mistletoe-draped celebrations at Ash Tree Farm in Sussex Down.
Then, festivities were full of warmth, but when dark secrets resurface, and a shocking death occurs, it’s not the merry Christmas as it might have been.
Sherrinford kept me guessing in this engaging mystery. It's the perfect holiday read!

This Sherlock Holmes story is not your typical Sherlock Holmes story Author KD Sherrinford has found a wife for Sherlock and this allows him to be more of a complete figure. In this book the reader learns that Sherlock Holmes and wife have to disguise themselves when in England because there are Underworld people who are keen to kill them.
Yet the focus is on Christmas. And Sherlock Holmes spends it with his family which includes his brother and sister. Here we learn a lot about his background that most readers would not have known before.
As always there is crime close by and Sherlock Holmes gets to solve a murder while becoming even more human as he gives consideration to broader issues in relation to the murder. While the story, set over the Christmas period, is fast paced, it does build the Sherlock Holmes character allowing the author to show a more rounded Sherlock Holmes in future books. Having enjoyed this book I look forward to future books from Ms. Sherrinford.

Christmas at the Saporis (Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler #2) by K.D. Sherrinford

This is a quaint novella as told by K. D. Sherrinford. As evidenced above, it is the second in what I believe is to be a series; but, I very much enjoyed it, despite not having read the previous book nor any of the originals by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

Sherrinford combines charm, mystery, and secrets that seem to bring more character development to Lucca Sapori (a.k.a. Sherlock Holmes) and his wife Irene Adler all in the context of a special Christmas gathering. It is easily read, and a short, whimsical piece, perfect for the busy holiday season.

On a personal note, I was told that I had won this book by someone not affiliated with Sherrinford. Upon finding this out, I was sent a copy of the book anyway, a most generous offer from this author, and greatly appreciated. I will state that this review is my own personal opinion.

Love the characters and the view point of Sherlock Holmes wife. This is a more of a love story and more adventurous. Will be reading more of this author. I see it as being a movie and made into a tv series too. Great work.

I loved this book! It had Victorian Christmas traditions- minced pies, wreaths, carolers, presents and parlor games…and then an engaging murder mystery. Reading this book became a little bit of a tradition for me this past week; I’d turn on the fireplace, sip my coffee and read a bit at a time to see what everyone in this book was up to next. After reading this, I will definitely check out the author’s other stories!

This outstanding read delivers the warmth, sights, sounds, and smells of Christmas at Ash Tree Farm in Sussex Down. Nene, Nicco, and Charlotte are busily making holiday preparations - a wreath, mince pies, table decorations, and mistletoe - while Mrs. Hudson is cooking turkey and prime rib for Christmas dinner. The festivities include Mycroft who Nene has invited.

Surprise guests will make their appearances after the family Christmas feast, leaving Holmes a mystery and decision to sleep on. For the first time in his life as a detective, he will make this decision as a husband, brother, father, and a detective.

A beautiful Christmas story with more adventures ahead. Highest recommendation.

I haven't read book 1 in the Sherlock Holmes and Irene Sadler Mysteries, but that didn't take away from this story. It's a wonderfully written short short story set at Christmas and quite a fascinating take on the other side of Mr Holmes. I'll be sure to pick up the others. Recommended.

A nice short read where Nene drifts between the present and the past, and we discover more about the characters.

Then Libby, the black sheep of the family turns up and spills the beans about the past - much to her brothers's surprise - and what a surprise!

There's never a dull moment in the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Un Natale dolceamaro... In perfetto stile Holmes/Adler
Reviewed in Italy on June 20, 2023

4.0 out of 5 stars A clever tale
Reviewed in Canada on November 8, 2024
A big fan of Sherlock Holmes, author KD Sherrinford has breathed life into the famous fictional detective in her book Christmas at the Saporis. She’s given him a wife, Irene Adler, whom the detective admired in the stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, but never married, along with two children. While Holmes’s friend and biographer, Dr. John H. Watson, narrated the original stories, Irene Adler took that role in Sherrinford’s book. It's clever.
I like how Irene shows the softer side of Holmes, a man devoted to his wife and children. She puts up with his peculiarities and moods because she is in love with him.
The well-researched book takes readers back to Christmas in 1901, when holidays were simple, where children made crackers out of cardboard tubes, filling them with “sugared almond bonbons” and covering them with brightly coloured paper before wrapping them together with mistletoe. When family secrets surface, along with an unexpected death, Holmes springs into action to solve the mystery. Although I wanted more details about the crime, I wasn’t disappointed with the revelation. The twist at the end was satisfying too.
