Christmastide With His Countess: A Historical Christmas Regency Romance Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 682 ratings

Can a snowed-in Christmas lead to a second chance at love?

Scarlett may be the Countess of Oxford, but she has seen very little of her earl since their wedding. Schooled by her mother’s experiences, Scarlett carefully guards her heart from any man, most especially her handsome and charming husband. She shares her love and gifts with those less fortunate than herself, including her husband’s tenants, whom he has ignored for far too long.

Rejected by his bride on the wedding night of their arranged marriage, Hunter, Earl of Oxford, leaves her to their country home, pushing her away from his heart and mind while he focuses on matters of importance. Until one day, he cannot ignore a summons from his steward.

At the beginning of the Christmastide season, Hunter finds himself trapped by a snowstorm. He is surprised when he sees his wife’s frosty exterior beginning to melt, revealing a mysterious and sensual woman underneath. Will days together, in the presence of sleigh rides, mistletoe, and the Christmas spirit, drive them apart forever, or reveal to them a love they never thought possible?

This Regency romance contains some steamy scenes.

Ellie has always loved reading, writing, and history.
For many years she has written short stories, non-fiction, and can hardly believe that she is now living out her dream writing historical romance.

In every era there is the chance for romance, and Ellie enjoys exploring many different time periods, cultures, and geographic locations. No matter when or where, love can always prevail.
She has a particular soft spot for the bad boys of history, and can't help but write of strong, feisty heroines.

Ellie and her husband love nothing more than spending time at home with their two sons and Husky cross. Ellie can typically be found at the lake in the summer, pushing the stroller all year round, and, of course, with her computer in her lap or a book in hand.

This author is fast becoming one of my favorites. I can't believe in just a few chapter's my heart went out to this couple. We discover her fear of love and marriage. The patience of the H was amazing and their love grew at the right pace.

There were misunderstandings on both their parts, but what I enjoy with her writing, is it doesn't last forever, just a normal time you would expect to clear it up. They are honest with each other and try to find their way in their marriage.

There is lovemaking within marriage that was full of passion for me and rated maybe 3.5-4 out of 5, not vulgar or erotic.

We have no cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA and a sweet epilogue one year in the future which warmed my heart. I highly recommend this author and how she writes her character's with such depth and seem like people you would enjoy knowing. (ljb)

This was the first novel I read by Ellie St. Clair and I thought 'Christmastide With His Countess' was a lovely read. The story is set at Christmas, and was sold as a book featured for the holiday season. Although, the book would be a nice read during other times of the year as well. There are many familiar romance tropes in the story: a marriage of convenience, manipulative and distant parents, fear of intimacy because of family history, caring servants, and main characters who have been afraid to communicate with one another. In spite of the familiar storylines, Ms. St. Clair puts them all together in a believable and heartfelt manner. It is, however, because the themes are so overworked in this style of romance that I held the book back from a five star rating. There are no surprises in the storyline. Our heroine is Scarlet and our hero is Hunter. Scarlet has not been living with her husband in London as Hunter is immersed in his work in Parliament, and Scarlet has a difficult and sad family history from being in London as a young girl. A snowstorm brings Scarlet and Hunter together as Hunter feels compelled to visit his country estate, Wintervale, because his estate manager is upset with actions Scarlet has taken while living at the estate. Hunter returns - he hasn't seen his wife since their arranged wedding. He is actually quite eager to make Scarlet his wife, and while they are 'trapped' together during a snowstorm he comes to discover her kind nature and intelligence. It is a delight to watch these two people finally recognize all the good they could have if they were to live fully as husband and wife. As I have mentioned there are no surprises in the story, but it is a sweet read. I will read it again, and recommend it as a lovely and easy read.

This was a delightful romance with a hero and heroine who both had problems caused from their childhoods. Both were so deserving of the love that they found with each other. I truly liked how Hunter was the one who came around first. In most romances, it is usually the hero who is the last to come to the realization that he loves the heroine. Hunter was so good to Scarlett and understood her well. Truly a beautiful romance with a swoon worthy hero.

As with arranged marriages, the bride and groom met at the wedding. Each had troubled childhoods, leading to distant attitudes to each other. Characters were well developed and the country life great in detail. The tension between them ebbed into mutual like. Each had different idea of Christmas, thus making for interesting drama. Enjoyed the give and take of the holiday season.
They went to his country home, he returned to London

Scarlet faces an arranged marriage she wanted nothing to do with. Hunter, her husband of four months, has been absent, continuing to feel his work in the House of Lords to be his mission.
The whole situation leaves you wondering if they'll ever have a chance to get to know each other. Neither has married the person they expected and both are in for a big surprise!

Scarlett's father arranged her marriage to Hunter who she first saw at their wedding. Her father had broken her mother's heart and her spirit by his philandering ways. And that made it impossible for Scarlett to give her heart to her husband. But Christmas spirit and a bough of mistletoe begin to open her heart to love. You will love these characters and their servants. This is a heart warming Christmas romance.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor editing
Reviewed in France on December 12, 2021
The many mistakes and missing words in the Kindle version of this book was one of the reasons for the low star rating. The editor was not doing their job on this one
There was a lack of substance to the whole book, with unformed characters, no real plot and improbable names for Regency aristocrats.
I doubt I'll be reading any others of this author's work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Story

I have had this book since last year and have only just decided to read it, what a gem I have missed. The characters Hunter and Scarlett (although I do wonder about the names!) are endearing characters, particularly when Scarlett gets her act together. It is a wonder they have turned out to be so pleasant with the parents they have, Hunter's being totally obnoxious and Scarlett's mother being a bit of a wet blanket, worn down by her husband's philandering ways. Winter's initiation into Christmas festivities was sweet and Scarlett's initiation into 'love' despite her mother's interfering ways was endearing. All in all a lovely story, well written and flowed well, with a few modern phrases but these didn't spoil the story.
I would recommend this book, and I will now get on and read Ellie's story for this Christmas.😊

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad
Reviewed in Australia on February 14, 2021
A somewhat engaging book, despite the occasional lapses into anachronistic dialogue. One major historical glitch is all the local gentry and tenantry trotting off to mass in church, at a time when the catholic population had fallen to about 1% of the english population and churches were, almost without exception, anglican. Things did not start looking up for catholics till 1829.

This is a wonderfully written seasonal story, that will keep you entertained. The plot is a brilliantly crafted tail of overcoming a parent's experiences. The characters are beautifully portrayed, with the strength to overcome their problems. This is a great book that will be suitable for all those who love steamy historical romances, that is full of emotional twists and turns.

I have read this book for the second time and enjoyed every word. I read it the first time quite a while ago and loved it then.
I have now read it on my holiday in the middle of summer, but could still imagine Christmas and the feeling of Christmas in the
House. Such a lovely story. I will definitely read it again.
