SLAUGHTER OF INNOCENTS: A BRITISH CRIME THRILLER (DCI Garrick Book 1) (DCI Garrick Crime Thrillers) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 2,557 ratings

MURDER IN THE GARDEN OF ENGLAND

DCI David Garrick's world is already spinning out of control. Haunted by his sister's brutal murder and plagued by terrifying visions, he's barely holding it together. But Kent's darkness won't wait for him to recover.

When mutilated bodies start appearing across the county's picturesque villages, Garrick and his fresh-faced team are thrust into a shadowy underworld of human trafficking. Each victim bears the killer's signature – grotesque souvenirs carved from their flesh. But as the body count rises and the victims' identities remain shrouded in mystery, a chilling possibility emerges: they might be hunting more than one monster.

From acclaimed screenwriter Andy Briggs, writing as MG Cole, comes a haunting debut thriller that peels back the pristine façade of Kent's idyllic countryside to reveal its rotting core. MURDER IN THE GARDEN OF ENGLAND is a masterclass in psychological suspense that will keep you guessing until the final, blood-soaked page.

Perfect for fans of Peter James and Ian Rankin, this is the first chapter in a series that will redefine British crime fiction.
Rachel McLean, Alex Smith, Ann Cleeves, and many more!

I am on the 7th book in this series and have enjoyed them all, but the digital editions need some serious proofreading. There are so many incorrect words and punctuation that it becomes distracting. I can't speak to the printed books, but it's a shame that books this good are so poorly edited.

    M. G. Cole has written a book that is much more than many books. It is endlessly interesting. The subjects dealt with range from Romany traditions and racial heritage, the shocking art of binding books with human skin, Great Britain’s pervasive history of violent, abusive, hate filled racism, and the search for, recovery of, and tedious removal of the stone overlaying fossils.

All of these helped form the framework of the investigation and resolution of the slaughter.

The characterizations are concise but excellent. The plot is complex and creative. The interactions of the police men and women are fun in a manner that adds to the story rather than serving as a atmospheric sideline.

I enjoyed it, read it in one sitting, and cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
