If you love The Thursday Murder Club, Agatha Christie and Richard Coles then you'll love The Morwenna Mutton mysteries.

Readers love Judy Leigh and Morwenna Mutton:

‘This is a cosy crime story with some gentle sleuthing, full of twists and turns, and even a little romance, although things do turn pretty hair-raising at times for Morwenna. The inhabitants of Seal Bay are charming, vibrant and humorous and there is plenty to love in this thoroughly engrossing story. Morwenna makes a great lead character and I am keen to read more in this lovely series.’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘I adore all Judy Leigh’s books. They are warm, witty, welcoming and extremely well executed. I always know I will be in for a treat when I pick up one of her books.’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘It's a cozy type mystery with family, drama and even a little romance thrown in, showing that you are never too old- for anything if you put your mind to it. A brilliantly entertaining read, I look forward to more in the series.’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘Morwenna is truly unique. At a time when most women would be happy to take it easy, she is intent on taking on more. Her work and family are important to her, but it is her determination to solve a mystery that makes her stand out. She is feisty and unrelenting. She puts herself in peril again and again, never stopping to consider the danger. A great mystery with a fantastic leading lady.’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Well written with an enjoyable mystery. I really like the fact Judy Leigh peoples her books with more mature characters and Morwenna is one of my favourites.’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

‘As well as the humour and wit in her novels and the fabulous characters and stories, her settings are excellent too. In the Morwenna Mutton series, Seal Bay comes to life with its coast, all the little shops around and the people who live and work in the area. It’s all so easy to picture and you feel like you are there, right in with all the action.’ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hello. Thanks for visiting my page. It's so nice to meet you.

I'm Judy Leigh. I've lived all over the UK from Liverpool to Cornwall, but currently I live in Somerset. After teaching theatre, writing lyrics for a punk band and setting up Shakespeare Festivals, I completed an MA in Professional Writing. Since then, I have been writing novels and having the time of my life doing it.

I write 'golden' and 'silver' stories that feature characters of all ages, but focus on the lives of older people.

These novels celebrate communities, fun and friendship, love and the power of laughter, the belief that everyone should have another chance at happiness.

I also write under the name of Elena Collins, my grandmother. These are dual timeline historical stories, slightly spooky. Writing in this genre gives me the opportunity to focus on history, injustice and the lives of women then and now. Please take a look at my Elena Collins author page. I love writing in this genre and I know you'll enjoy the stories...

I also write cozy crime. The Morwenna Mutton 'Seal Bay' series is set in a beautiful coastal town in Cornwall, and Morwenna is a sixty-something sleuth who works in a library and the family tearooms, cycles everywhere, swims in the sea whatever the weather and gets into mischief solving local crimes. Please check out these books - they are so much fun to work on.

When I'm not writing, I'm often on the beach or on the moors, walking, doing yoga or travelling in the camper van. I'm a Reiki healer, a vegan, an interpreter of dreams and an animal lover. I have three black cats and I enjoy sunshine, conversation, laughter, travelling, live music, theatre and football.

I hope you'll join me soon between the pages of a book!

Sending warmest wishes. x

A Cozy Mystery in a Charming Coastal Town with a Classy Novice Sleuth

A Cozy Mystery in a Charming Coastal Town with a Classy Novice Sleuth
I received a free copy of this book as part of a blog tour book promotion with Rachel's Random Resources. The Cream Tea Killer is part of a series and I started the book without being familiar with the MC Morwenna Mutton. As someone experienced with wrong place wrong time and if it can go wrong, it will, I enjoyed Mutton's hairy situation. How worrisome to become the target for a murderer when you never should have been involved with the situation in the first place. This story took place in a charming coastal town with descriptive shops and fun characters that made me want to visit again. The spunk and guts of Morwenna made me think of the spicy Matlock spinoff series, where wily Madeline Matlock is fooling everyone around her, proving age doesn't always mean losing your wits.Although primarily a cozy mystery, this book gave readers a bit of everything, from family drama to butterfly romance. And a lovely reminder that life doesn't end when you pass middle age.I look forward to reading the first two books in this series and exploring more of Mutton's mystery solving adventures.

This is the 3rd installment of a mystery series set in lovely Cornwall, England. Morwenna is a regular Jessica Fletcher uncovering mysteries in her small town and piecing the solutions together while swimming in the frigid waters with her delightful friends. She's not just a librarian/waitress/mom/grandma but a strong, independent and compassionate woman who is fearless when she sets out to solve a mystery.
I have read all 3 books from this series now and with each one I long to visit Cornwall and eat their traditional dishes and gossip with the colorful folk. I so hope there is a real person like Morwenna Mutton riding around in bright purple leggings and a homemade knitted cardigan! I also hope the real Morwenna doesn't stumble upon crimes as often as the fictional one does!

Probably won’t read next book cause same problem for the last 2.
I really liked her but now I feel she is wishy washy with her personal life.

Morwenna Mutton is a warm hearted woman who wears many hats. She is a warm hearted thoughtful daughter, mother, grandmother and ex-wife who is devoted to her family and loyal to her friends. She works mornings in the public library and afternoons in her daughter's tea room. These two jobs afford her many friendships and opportunities to keep her eyes and ears on the town's pulse. With her full life and observations, she is able to solve the town's mysteries as an unpaid detective. You'll love the stories of her Cornish life as well as her ability to solve crimes.

I've enjoyed this novel from top to bottom.
Apart from the murderous people dedicated to children's traffic, the assassination of an investigative journalist ready to make heads roll, and the ineffable Morwenna Mutton 's abilities as an amateur detective, the real assassin can't be discover at the very end.
I hope that the relationship between Morwenna and Nick could get cured again.

Morwenna Mutton is one of those amateur sleuths that I find both intriguing and maddening. She's smart and clever about sorting out clues but, well, sometimes doesn't show much common sense in how she gets them. This go-round, she finds her snooping may put not just her but those she loves in danger, too. That's one angle you don't see often in cozy mysteries, the fact that an even semi-intelligent murderer might not hesitate to harm your loved ones if you get too close, so kudos to Judy Leigh for going there. Morwenna is also almost 63 year-old, so she's hardly got youth as an excuse. Even more amazing, she seems to be on friendly working terms with Jane, the local investigator, so her habit of not sharing until she finds out just one more thing, so to speak, seems foolhardy.

Nonetheless, Morwenna is determined to see justice done, using her wits and smarts to find out, in this case, who killed radio DJ Irina. She's told Morwenna she was on the verge of uncovering something important but didn't share. You guessed it. She had one more thing to verify before sharing. Bad move. They plan to meet the next morning. Irina is a no-show. Initially Morwenna doesn't think too much about it, expecting she'd been detained, but when her efforts to locate Irina prove fruitless, she pretty much begins investigating without much thought. That's when the trouble... and danger.... begins. Irina's body is found washed up along the shore near where Morwenna and a group of avid swimmers meet to share their love of the sport, even when the water is frigid. Brr. Cornwall isn't exactly a tropical spot in England. In any case, she's pushy and has the help of Ruan, her ex-husband who just happens to live across the street. There's a love-triangle of sorts involved, too, although quite frankly, I'm on Team Ruan. All that aside, putting herself into some dicey situations, usually with Ruan along, Morwenna slowly uncover the secret Irina died without revealing.

I won't detail any more of the plot but it was far more intricate than expected. I liked Morwenna although, sigh, a little bit of her, oh, so talkative grand-daughter went a long way. Toss in Morwenna's attraction to Barnaby, a monied plastic surgeon, while obviously harboring feeling for Ruan wore on me. I like Ruan's calm, always-there-for- her presence. That said, I didn't dislike even the annoying grand-daughter, who desperately wants a real dog, but just wished for less of her. Seal Bay seems an intriguing place, full of interesting characters, and, oh, yes, there's that little matter of whether the library Morwenna works at is haunted. Louise, a friend and co-worker, is on Team Ghost, I'll note. And let's not forget Brenda, the cat, who seems to have the ability to sleep peacefully through almost everything, even gun shots. Bottom line, an intriguing multi-level mystery with likable, interesting characters, even if I do think I'd pass on the swimming sessions. And, oops, almost forgot, thanks #BoldwoodBooks for not only allowing me an early peek at Morwenna's latest adventures but including that handy glossary of terms. I'm happy to say that I didn't much need it as they mostly made sense, but was handy to have.

Really enjoyed this book. The story was good and the characters are interesting. Always like a story with strong women and a stronger family. With a little love mixed in. These characters are ones you remember. Gonna read another one.

I did not read the first two books in this series. I think that probably caused me to struggle for a good part of the beginning of this book number 3. I read the Kindle version, and I knew I had to make a list of characters early on, since so many were mentioned. At 15% I had 21 characters! At that point I did not continue to write new ones down. I felt I would just let it go.

The story picked up speed in the last fourth of the book. I found it slow moving prior to that. Again, I think that was due to so many characters and the fact that I did not read books 1 and 2.

I have read and enjoyed this author's fiction books in the past and did not know she also wrote cozy mysteries. I was happy to explore her writing in a different way, but I do enjoy her Women's fiction books more than I did this book.

I like this family, Morwenna gets involved when a DJ on the local radio is murdered. When they met up for their usual swim in the sea she was told that Irena had found something out and "heads would roll". Lots of suspects and an unpleasant group of people
