Curse of the Stag's Eye Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 30 ratings

High on a wave-dashed cliff, the ancient standing stone known as the Stag’s Eye jealously watches over a cursed lighthouse with a grisly past. Paranormal investigator Rhys has chosen this place to hold his first-ever ghost tour. Ghost-hunting veteran Dawn and her boyfriend Nikesh are eager to go exploring, while first-timer Gaz is hoping to learn more about the spirit world. He also intends to learn more about Rhys for various reasons, not all of which are entirely innocent.

The ghost of a murdered lighthouse keeper is said to climb the stairs every night, tending to the light, but other, far more sinister phantoms may lurk in the shadows. As the night wears on and the haunting becomes more and more hazardous, Rhys and Gaz grow closer. However, it soon becomes clear that not everyone on the tour is being honest about their reasons for being there. Can the supernatural activity be blamed on the curse of the Stag’s Eye or does someone know more than they’re letting on?

Curse of the Stag’s Eye is a part of the

Ghost Story
Rhys is taking a small group to a haunted lighthouse. You have Gaz who is skeptical but hiding his true identity. Dawn an experienced investigator but has conflicted emotions then Nikesh non-believer but wants to experience something and is Dawn’s boyfriend. This story makes you feel like you are there. The things happening are very descriptive and it was fun to read.

The Curse of the Stag’s Eye takes author Glenn Quigley’s love of the sea and lighthouses to the next level. The Curse of the Stag’s Eye is not a typical Glenn Quigley novel, Quigley typically writes Historical Fiction (beautifully so) and I’m excited to see him branch out into something new (to be fair over the last few years Quigley has dived into other genres’ and I highly recommend them) however, if you think this a departure from his other works you are only partly correct. Quigley writes a lot about the sea and includes lighthouses in his works. If you follow him on Instagram (which I suggest you do) you’ll see he has a love for all things nautical. So why not take his love of all things ocean related and throw them into a good old ghost story? But the Curse of the Stag’s Eye is so much more. You get a romance, mystery, ghost story, and a thriller all rolled up into one and the story is utterly brilliant.

This book hits all the right pacing and checks off everything you need for a well-written tale. You also get a good dose of history and lore about lighthouses thrown into the mix, which makes the novel a fun read.

I love how Quigley goes beyond the pale and shows us people who are not typically the heroes of the story. We get to see wonderfully colorful characters that aren’t your standard archetypes (and bless him for doing this).

The story is beautifully claustrophobic, and the cast is small, which means there isn’t a wasted character or someone there to take up space and fill the page in the entire book. This is another talent of Quigley’s that I wish more writers would acquire.

Is this book scary? No, but the tale has its moments. There is no gore or anything over the top (most brilliant ghost stories don’t need to be gory). Is there a lot of romance in the book? There’s some, and it’s tastefully crafted and perfectly planned out. The mystery and the thriller aspect of the novel are what shines through and makes this story so lovely to read and enjoy.

I realize this novel is a part of a larger series of stories written by several authors following the theme of haunted hearts. I’ll be interested to read and see how the others do with the theme.

If you haven’t guessed, I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend the novel. Well done Glenn, well done!

One thing to remember when going into this book is that the chapters from Rhys' POV has a time stamp at the beginning. It took me a while to get that, I was scanning for a name before I cottoned on to this.
That being said this was a good story. Following Gaz and Rhys whilst they are investigating a suspected haunted lighthouse. From the start you could sense they had an attraction but the hauntings have priority. Rhys whilst not new to ghosts, is new to the tour guide side of it and he plans every single second of it.
Gaz has paid to be on the tour, complete opposite to Rhys, goes on instinct nothing is planned but why is he there.
I enjoyed that story of the haunting took priority and as more is revealed the perfect blending between past history and current events felt that you were reading not only Rhys and Gaz's story. So more for your money. Throughout the story had a spooky feel to it giving you the feeling that something was going to jump out at you, which got me turning the pages quicker to see what would happen next.
This was the first book I have read by this author and I will hunt out more to read as for Rhys and Gaz, I would love for them to have their own series and I will definitely be up for reading more from them

Better than any TV show about ghost hunting.
Curses. Forbidden love. Tragic endings and a haunted lighthouse with handsome men trying to unravel the mystery.
What more could you ask for?

This is a new author to me and I’m so happy to have had the chance to read this fabulous book. It has a lot of things that really speak to me. First and foremost, I absolutely love a ghost tour and the author wonderfully captured the experience. It’s a great setting for the story, a perfect way to trap a bunch of strangers together in a creepy haunted lighthouse. The author builds the tension skillfully as the night in the lighthouse wears on, all the characters feel a bit sketchy which makes for a fun read. I really enjoyed uncovering what happened to Baines, the lighthouse keeper. Great characters and a page turning plot, this was great!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Curse of the Stag’s Eye - The Ghostbotherers

‘I grabbed the railing a little more tightly and called in to Rhys. “Are you not going to come out? I think you’ll regret it if you don’t.” He flexed his hands and bounced about on the balls of his feet. “Right. I’ll do it. Now. I’m doing it.” He kept bouncing. “Here I go. I’m going. Through the hatch and out. No problem. Easy-peasy.” He took a step towards the door, then stopped and pointed. “Who’s that?”

This Haunted Hearts book, part of a fantastic multi-author series of MM romance, is delightfully delivered in a wonderfully creative and haunting form by author Glenn Quigley.

Ghosts that plague the lighthouse, found at the Stag’s Eye, are souls lost to a painful past that comes through to mild-mannered Rhys, and the entourage that joins him to investigate the curse known to locals.

This visually embracing story flows from skepticism to tears of believe, while danger lurks for those who attempt to find a reality among the sea goers tales.

Well, this was a lovely surprise. Well-written characters. Past and present storylines intertwine into a great romance with a dash of spooky. I especially enjoyed all the lighthouse lore. This is a special read. Enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cosy paranormal romance read

This was a perfect spooky yet cosy October read!

The setting is a lighthouse, which is atmospheric and fun, because as the reader you get to poke about the lighthouse with the characters who are on a ghost tour.

The cast is small but very lively, quirky, with some great banter.
The story reminded me of the tv show Detectorists, which I love. If Detectorists had gay MCs and was about ghosts, not metal detecting. But same cosy vibe with colourful characters.

There were plenty of surprises, funny moments, spooky moments, shocking reveals, and at the heart a very touching story, giving each character their time to shine. I could easily see this being a fun fun for Halloween, the picture was so clear in my head.

Also, the bran flake in the corn flakes was so spot on. IYKYK.

Great read, recommended if you enjoy m/m romance set against a backdrop of cosy paranormal ghost hunting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

4.0 out of 5 stars great yarn

I really enjoyed this book, it was well-paced and had a good mix of suspense, drama and humour. Glenn always manages to create well-rounded characters that you can relate to, (I always get the hots for at least one!) with good back stories that are relevant to the plot. I found myself trying to guess the outcome, I will not embroider on that for fear of spoilers. I would have liked to have been scared a bit more but it is a great read.
