Dawn: The Enchanters Book One Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 20 ratings

Don’t you just hate it when you lose your temper and wake up on another planet?

Christian Stone is having a bad day. It wasn’t enough that the global corporation he works for blamed his team for a data breach in the most important programme on Earth. Or that he had to travel halfway across the world to try and clear their name. But when tragedy strikes, and they accuse him of that as well, Chris loses it, with unexpected—and unexplainable—results.

He wakes on another world, at the Dawn Academy, where he is invited to train, to develop and to control what they call his Gift. There’s just one catch. You can’t leave until you pass the Grading.

Chris soon finds that there are dark forces determined to keep him on Dawn, to prevent him from returning to Earth to shape its destiny. He must do all he can to leave—before it is too late to save the world.

Dawn is the first book in the science fantasy series The Enchanters. If you like magic and alien worlds, a dystopian future and fantastic monsters, galactic prophecies and killer tech, then you’ll love Mark Wylie’s page-turning new novel.

Mark has his heart in the wrong place - literally. A minor defect at birth revealed that it lies slightly to one side of where it should be, a fact that always gave him some comfort as a young man should an enraged lover or crazed stalker decide to go for him with a knife.

Mark has always been an avid reader and was intrigued at an early age to discover that most authors seem to have had an enormous variety of, often short-lived, jobs on their way to becoming a full-time author. To this end, Mark has worked as a hospital porter (until he nearly killed a patient on the operating table), a factory worker (until he was asked to stop being one due to sustaining chicken-related injuries), a barman (until he spent a week being investigated by the police for suspected theft… before they caught the real culprit) and an assistant in a Doctor Who specialist shop in London (until it went bust and he found himself helping the owner do a moonlight flit with the rest of the stock).

Mark has a passion for both science fiction and fantasy, so describes himself as a Science Fantasy author. His first novel, Dawn, which launches The Enchanters series, therefore includes magic and alien worlds, a dystopian future and fantastic monsters.

Mark lives in Wiltshire, England. He is a father of three and a husband of one. When he is not writing, shouting at the dog to shut up, or telling the cats off for scratching the furniture, he can often be found in various towns and cities during the summer months dressed in historical livery and taking part in town crier competitions. Oyez!

Book was well thought out, the concept of individuals being selected by their gifts and then trained how to use them was a different concept in its relation to Earth making first contact. It is not all it seems though and becomes more enticing as you read more. Good Story to introduce the concepts.

World building is difficult and takes great skill. Give the author highest grades for doing it well. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the next book in the series!

I found this book excellent. From the first paragraph to the final flourish. It’s not a genre I usually read, so I found myself surprised at the enjoyment I felt. The author has a wit reminiscent of far better known writers. I found, as I got further into heart of the book, that the pace was electrifying and I didn’t want to put the book down. Alas my wife made me shut off the light a couple of times! Look, it’s a great read and if, like me, you are wanting to escape into the pages of a new book, try this one. He’s a new writer to me, but I don’t think this is the last we’ll hear from him. 5 stars

It was a fun read! I liked how the characters had different superpowers. I liked how i expected something to happen in the book but something else completely different happened which was unexpected. Because everyone was from different worlds, it put me in a different world while I was reading it. A Great Sci-Fi read!

This story is gripping right from the start. Even when I thought I could predict the twists before they hit, I still got tricked - in a good way! Can't wait to see more from this author.

Dawn is not what I expected, but I’m glad I read it. I can see this as a series on Prime or Netflix. Looking forward to the rest of the series. A great read.

I’ve enjoyed reading “Dawn” so much, and it’s taken me by surprise many times with where the plot is heading. I am truly amazed by how good this book is, and can’t wait to find out how it ends (halfway through the book so far)! Keep writing more, please!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Science Fantasy!

I just finished reading Dawn, the first book in The Enchanters series and I have to say, I was blown away. From the moment Christian was introduced, I was completely hooked on his journey.

The world of Dawn is vividly described, and the magical powers that the characters possess are fascinating and well thought out. I loved the combination of sci-fi and fantasy elements, and the setting really added to the intrigue.

Dawn is action-packed and so engaging. I was completely gripped, wondering what would happen next. The characters are all well-developed and complex, and I found myself rooting for Chris and his fellow Enchanters throughout the story.

I highly recommend Dawn to anyone who loves a good sci-fi or fantasy adventure. It's a page-turner from start to finish, and I can't wait to see where the rest of the series takes us. Five stars all around!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read!

If you like Sci Fi, intriguing characters, alien worlds and humorous clever writing, then this is the book for you! It has shades of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy in it, (which in my mind is never a bad thing) but Mark Wylie has a style of his own.
One of the echoes of Hitch Hikers' is the ordinary bloke in an extraordinary world, but the book soon develops a character of it's own. Christian Stone is led on a mad and dangerous adventure and soon realises that he's not as ordinary as he thought!
Very easy to read, with some wonderful characters and other worlds, and some mad techy ideas that are very believable. There is also a brilliant eco theme running through..I can recommend it, even if you're not into fantasy, there's something for everyone in this book...

Christian was just an ordinary bloke living in a difficult world - and then everything changed. This was an excellent read, following Christian plucked from his ordinary life and thrown into something completely new, fom blundering around to taking control Christian develops to challenge the accepted structure. I look forward to seeing what happens next and whether Christian catches up with what he is chasing.
