Editorial Reviews

Review

"Roll up for a great read. How many people do you know who've shot a mattress, been scared of a vending machine in a high-security prison, and asked their mother if they'd like to adopt a bat? Tammy is full of surprises. I give it five stars.
"Still raw with grief after her son's murder, Tammy Horvath continues in her struggle to pick up the pieces of her broken world. Tenacity and determination drive her far beyond her comfort zone, and even the shortest of journeys don't always go as planned. Heart-rending, nail-biting, and, at times, amusing,
Deep Inside is a unique and riveting insight into one woman's life after loss."
Liza Grantham, Author of the Mad Cows in Galicia multi-bestselling memoir series

"An astonishing true story of a remarkable woman who braves the prison system and not only befriends but forgives her son's killer."
Alison Ripley Cubitt, screenwriter and author

"Horvath's latest book in the Journeys Through Life series is a poignant look inside the heart of a mother whose world was shattered by the murder of her son. Raw and emotional,
Deep Inside takes you on a journey deeper into forgiveness and grace. We get a glimpse into prison life and the mind of a troubled young man who was put there to pay for his crimes. Each chapter ends with Horvath's transformational journey as she continues to obey God."
Jane Daly, Author of Hole in My Family Portrait

"Deep Inside has movie written on every page. With her unique writing style, Tammy Horvath portrays not only action of treacherous encounters with backcountry mountain biking but also chilling descriptions of trying to single-handedly stop an unknown night prowler and a risky state prison visit to be face-to-face with her son's murderer. There are mysteries around every corner as each page is turned. It is heartwarming to read an author who is not ashamed and has the boldness and courage to profess her firm belief in our Savior. I am confident Tammy will be with her son Luke in heaven."
Michael Copple, Author of Calling from the Sky, Considering Wisdom, Solving the Spiritual Dilemma, Vastness of Pace and more.

"This third in Tammy Horvath's Journeys Through Life series is as much about her personal transformational journey as about her journey to meet a killer. Faced with the possibility of meeting her son's murderer for the first time, face to face, Tammy relies on her faith and her love to see her through.
"Beautifully written, incredibly descriptive, and heartwarming, this is an uplifting read rather than a depressing one, given the subject matter. There are light-hearted moments as Tammy pushes herself to the limit in more ways than one, and a deep abiding sense of peace as she forgives the unforgivable and loves the unlovable killer of her only son.
"Profound and incredible. A modern-day story of redemption and love."
Lisa Rose Wright, Author of the Writing Home series of memoirs

About the Author

Author and speaker Tammy Horvath lives to travel, love God, and love others. She loves spending time with her son's friends, reminiscing about Luke. She knows Luke is happy with his Creator in heaven and that she will join them one day. Tammy loves to share the story of Jesus' death on the cross and his offer of grace so that all can choose him as their Lord and Savior.

Tammy's favorite vacation destination is the beach, and her favorite travel partner is her husband of over 20 years. She also travels with family and friends and loves making new friends wherever she goes.

Her second favorite vacation has been the many times she has seen aurora borealis. The first time she saw the northern lights was in Iceland, only one month after Luke's murder. While there, God blessed her with four nights of the glorious green dancing sky. In 2023, Tammy saw the northern lights again while staying with friends in Canada—that time, purple mixed with green. She was very blessed when she saw the southern lights, also known as aurora australis, in Australia in 2024. Sightings are fleeting and faint, and people rarely see them Down Under, so tears rolled off Tammy's chin when the sky danced light green and then purple before finally turning a vibrant fuchsia. God truly blesses Tammy in all she does; her joy proves it, and seeing the lights makes Tammy feel close to Luke.

Tammy is a perfectionist, and no one is harder on Tammy than she is on herself. She's proud to have written five very candid memoirs in the Journeys Through Life series, where she doesn't leave anything to the imagination. Her books share travel adventures, losing her son, and forgiving and building a relationship with his killer. Book 5, One Text Away, was the hardest to write because it shows Tammy is human when a doctor propositions her, and Tammy longs to feel his love.

Tammy shares her love with everyone she meets and hopes they will learn that God loves them.

This book takes on the most challenging aspects of people’s everyday lives, whether we are conscious of the struggle or not. We constantly live in a simultaneous battle within the realms of psychology and sociology. The author provides a modern and very real illustration of the age-old dilemma relating to justice in society and its consequence on internal peace for those in that society. The author brilliantly navigates this journey, covering all raw emotion and profound insight that one can only get when willing to look at the source of one’s pain.

Deep Inside was a great read. The author opened up as she continued through her grieving process, and gave the reader a journey of her trials and shortcomings as she worked to heal herself. Not many of us are willing to be so open about our failings, our need for others, or our reliance on God’s intervention for help. The book, while sad and tense at times, provides an uplifting experience and a tool to help others work through a difficult, life-changing event. It’s short enough that you can read it in one sitting, which I recommend to become fully immersed in the journey.

This book is very interesting but does a lot of telling not showing. Each chapter is interesting but didn't connect together well. I would have liked to know more about her wait to see Tyrone before we got to the visit. I was confused on how the different chapters connected to visiting your son's killer. Though it did keep my interest enough to keep reading.

Deep Inside: Forgiving the Unforgivable. Loving the Unlovable is an emotional and transformative read that dives deep into the complex challenges of forgiveness and unconditional love. The author takes you on a deeply personal journey, sharing stories and reflections that resonate on a soul level.

The book offers powerful insights into how we can find the strength to forgive the most painful wrongs and extend compassion to even the most difficult people. It’s not a light or easy read, but it is incredibly rewarding for anyone looking to heal old wounds and foster a sense of peace and understanding in their life.

The author’s candid storytelling and empathetic tone make this book relatable and inspiring, providing real tools for personal growth. It’s more than just a self-help book; it’s a guide to finding grace and love in the darkest of places. Highly recommended for anyone struggling with forgiveness or seeking emotional liberation.

The story told in Deep Inside: Forgiving the Unforgivable, Loving the Unlovable is about a mother, Tammy, who was able to find forgiveness for the man who brutally murdered her son. Despite never receiving an explanation from him for committing such an unthinkable act, Tammy reached out with compassion, becoming the sole visitor he has received during his lengthy prison sentence. Through Tammy's ability to forgive and even love her son's killer, the book describes her remarkable journey towards overcoming inconceivable grief with grace.

Tammy Horvath’s ability to forgive her son’s killer and seek healing through faith is both heart-wrenching and inspiring. The book takes readers deep into her grief, but also shows the incredible strength she finds in grace and unconditional love. It’s a powerful reminder of the resilience of the human spirit, though at times the emotional intensity can be overwhelming.

This book is an incredibly powerful read that dives deep into the complexities of forgiveness and love. This book offers a unique perspective that resonates with anyone who has struggled with feelings of resentment or hurt. I love the emphasis on the idea that forgiveness is not about condoning actions but about freeing oneself from the weight of past grievances.
