Destructive Relations (Destined to Fail) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,050 ratings

Parrish Turner has always been my ultimate fantasy. He was my gay awakening, my sweetest torture, and my forbidden fruit ever since my father remarried and merged our families.

And he never even noticed me. The most I got from him was a passing growl. And it was enough to make me wild with desire. Until he left.

Now, five years after I’d last seen him, we’re back in the same house. Even worse, we’re in tight quarters, forced to share the same bed. Luckily, it's only for a couple of weeks.

But that is long enough for my will to cave in. Especially now that I’ve got nothing else to lose and Parrish is starting to tease me in ways I can’t interpret. Either he's trying to bully me for fun, or he's flirting. With him, the two are never far apart.

He blurs the line between right and wrong. And I can’t resist the temptation that could only ever end in the destruction of whatever family we have left.

Destructive Relations is the first novel in the Destined to Fail series. You can expect forced proximity (only one bed), two young men who hate each other, forbidden love, heart, heat, humor, and a happily ever after. Make sure to use the Look Inside feature to read the content warnings. All books in this series are complete standalones.

3.5 Stars—Levi and Parrish are stepbrothers. Their parents married when Levi was eleven and Parrish was sixteen, hoping they’d become real brothers to each other. But Parrish was always made to feel that he wasn’t as good as Levi, and resented him and his parents. At twenty-three, Parrish is kicked out of the house, and doesn’t return until five years later. Levi has had a crush on Parrish since he was at least fourteen, even though Parrish either ignored him or bullied him. Now they are having to share a room for two weeks, and Levi’s feelings have not abated.

I actually had a hard time with this one—I liked the characters much more by the end than I did at the beginning. I like where and how they ended up. I liked their relationship. But at the beginning, Parrish was almost too hateful towards Levi for me. If it weren’t for the promise of a HEA and the fact that Parrish was fighting his own attraction to Levi, I probably would have DNF’d this one. I think it would have helped me if there had been a little more context from the beginning for Parrish’s attitude. We’re told that their parents are harder on Parrish and that they’re all about appearances, but that’s not really shown until later in the book—initially that all comes from what Parrish tells us. So at first it’s hard to know if he’s just an unreliable narrator if it’s true. Which made it harder for me to have sympathy for him, and harder for me to understand why Levi would like him so much. I mean, other than lusting after a hot body, it’s hard to see why Levi would be so enamored with Parrish.

But as Parrish and Levi get closer, Parrish lets his softer side come out, at least round Levi. Once that happened it got easier to root for these two. I enjoyed the last quarter of the book much more than the first. If you enjoy steamy scenes—there are plenty here.

    What I loved 💜
The character development! I’m a suckers for a good story and a connection and this had all that. I felt the tentacles between. The flow was great, the heat was 🔥🔥🔥🔥

    What I didn’t love 😬
I wish we had a bit more back story to why the heck the parents where the way they were! Marge crying every five seconds was a bit much and I don’t really understand what her deal was.

Over all have to devour more from this author

An agnsty step-brother romance. We first meet Parrish as he's getting tossed out of the house in his early 20's. But of course he can't make a clean break from his annoying, golden child step-brother first.

Five years later, the family is all together for a wedding. Thr parents are pretending to care about Parrish's life he's made for himself for the sake of appearances, and Levi is struggling with himself as he's constantly raised on the pedestal.

The guys struggle with the fact they're attracted to each other, Levi has always felt non brotherly things, & Parrish has always lashed out. But once they let go, the connection they have is amazing. They each see the other person. Not as the trouble maker & golden boy; but Parrish & Levi.

It was beautiful to see them experience love together.

Spicy and sweet, with a touch of angst. I really enjoyed this one. Levi is a naive sweetheart and Parrish is an angry puppy who's been kicked one too many times. Seriously some Lady and the Tramp vibes here. Rich vanilla with a little cinnamon and sugar. Some mild power dynamics going on.

Two awful parents -- it's not because they're gay, for once, it's because the parents are grade-A social climbers. I really like chemistry. It was a little iffy at first, but the more time they spent together, the more they started to gel. Parrish's sister turned out to be very insightful and awesome as well. I'd really recommend it. The spice level is comparable to the Try series by Ella Frank.

    SPOILERS--
This was pretty good if not a little long winded. I didn't like Parrish at first as he was taking all his anger out on Levi when it shouldn't have been directed there. As he grew up mentally he got better. I liked Levi from the beginning . I liked that he stood up for himself when it mattered against Parrish. Also that he stood up for Parrish against his pathetic parents. I liked them together and thought they had nice chemistry happening. I wish their parents had grown a little and stopped treating their kids like Pawns. The author spent a lot of time going over what they were thinking over and over again so I feel it could have been a little shorter. I also dislike over detailing surroundings if they aren't necessary to the story but that's just my thing. All in all I think it was good.👍

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Read
Reviewed in Canada on May 16, 2023
Right from the first few words I knew I was in for a rollicking roller coaster of a ride with a character like Parrish, and that is exactly what this stunning tale is. The beginning is frustrating and painful as we see parents misjudge and verbally abuse one son while glorifying the other. Parrish is headstrong, stubborn, and angry, his Mother and Step-Father have little time or patience for him. Levi, on the other hand, is the family darling who can do no wrong, or so they think. This tale is at times annoying, because of the constant stupidity of the parents, and then a touch sad, and a whole lot sexy, in other words a fantastic read. And once you are done there is more, a gorgeous, sexy bonus that you can download for free and read more of these two courageous men.

5.0 out of 5 stars Süße Stepbrother Romance! 🥰

Wow what a story family relax at there worse. So glad Parrish and Levi found love where there had only been hatred at let from Parrish towards the young man forced into his life by their parents marriage. Shame those parents failed so badly with Parrish. Great love scenes leading to a happy ever after ending

Great and intense story. Loved the sister, the other characters were a little bland. But loved the story. A little to sweet in the end.
